Castelo Rodrigo and Castelo Mendo two historical villages where you will return to the Middle Ages

On our tour through the northern half of Portugal, we visited two small but beautiful historical villages, surrounded by walls that enclosed a castle inside, in an area in continuous dispute for its proximity to the Spanish border. Castelo Rodrigo welcomes us with cold and fog, which do not prevent us from enjoying this small historic walled village. Accessing by any of its three gates, walking through beautiful paved streets you can visit the remains of the castle later converted into a palace, the Clock Tower, the medieval cistern, the Church of Our Lady of Rocamador, a beautiful Pelourinho, or the beautiful houses that adorn its streets. Then we visit Castelo Mendo, another historic walled village to which we enter by the large Porta da Vila that introduces us to its historic centre of paved streets with beautiful houses in Manueline style. On our tour we visit the Church of the Mercy, the church of St. Peter or the impressive Pelourinho of 7 meters high. Through a medieval sidewalk we access the oldest part, the old town, where the Church of Santa Maria stands out, and where we also find the remains of the Tower of the Homage of the old castle of which there is little evidence. Before leaving Castelo Mendo we threw a stone in the Wishing Rock and take a look at the scenery that its walls offer us.
