Durante la nostra risalita dell’Isola ci siamo resi conto che lontano dalle comuni rotte turistiche, esistono piccole realtà così culturalmente integre da riuscire a conquistare i nostri sguardi curiosi. Bayamo doveva essere per noi solo una cittadina di passaggio ma poi si è trasformata in una piacevole scoperta grazie anche alla sua storia. Storia che ci ha guidati anche tra le labirintiche vie di Camaguey. Insomma, un episodio che siamo sicuri riuscirà a sorprendere anche voi perché, ‘’ lasciare alla sorpresa la possibilità di manifestarsi è davvero il più bel regalo che possiamo fare a noi stessi ’’!

During our journey across Cuba, we realized that, far from the known touristic routes, there were small realities so culturally intact that were able to conquer our curious hearts. Bayamo was only meant as a transit town on our journey, only to then transform itself in our eyes as a pleasant surprise, also thanks to its history. Such history also guided us through the labyrinthic streets of Camaguey. This is, therefore, an episode which we are certain will surprise you too, because “allowing surprises to manifest themselves is truly the most beautiful gift we can give to ourselves”!

In the morning, we took a bicitaxi tour of the streets and squares of Camaguey, and visited the farmers' market. In the afternoon we travelled to Santa Domingo in the Sierra Maeatro mountains, stopping at Bayamo on the way.

Landscape Photography in Las Terrazas, Cuba
I had the chance to visit the eco-village of Las Terrazas, Cuba on my trip through the country with Intrepid Travel. The village was really cool, and I loved seeing the natural side of Cuba. Las Terrazas is full of beautiful lakes, lots of bird life, and stunning green vistas.
I was in Las Terrazas, Cuba for just 3 days but really enjoyed my time there. It's a part of Cuba I think most people skip since they prefer locations with more of a cultural tie. However, I'm really glad I got to visit Las Terrazas, and if you're heading to Cuba, you should tie it into your schedule as well.
A Day in Cuba
Cuban streets are safe to walk through. There is practically no violent crime in Cuba. I feel safe waking in the small towns and cities. I do recommend Cayo Santa Maria for any Canadian looking for a Winter holiday. There is no place like Cuba. Best beaches in the World.
Camagüey, Cuba
Camagüey (founded in 1515 under the name Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe) is a city in central Cuba The city is inhabited by about 300,000 people.
With bicycle-taxis we visited the Parque Ignacio Agramonte with his equestrian statue and adjacent buildings such as the Catedral Metropolitana or Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria with a large statue of Christ on top. Not very special and a somewhat dark interior.
We also visited several squares such as the Plaza de los Trabajadores. There is also a kapok tree - Ceibapentandra, ceiba tree - as a symbol of the Cuban struggle for independence. Also here is this Centro de Convenciones Santa Cecilia, a meeting and events room. The building dates back to before the revolution. And Che Guevara you will find more than Fidel in many places in this form with a spell. On the other side of this square is the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Merced. Inside you can see special murals, but it's partly past glory. Another square was the Plaza de San Juan de Dios, of which you can see some statues consisting of elements from the colonial era, such as large doorways, wide doors, windows with twisted wooden balusters. There are also anthropomorphic sculptures of black slaves performing their daily tasks on the square. On the square of the same name there was the Iglesia de San Juan de Dios annex monastery and hospital. Inside the church there are five altars with wooden altarpieces and sculptures. The main altar has an anthropomorphic representation of the Holy Trinity in precious wood.
