Kenya is beautiful - Cycling from Butere to Kisumu
Sometimes passion for cycling misleads you.
Moses: It's just 105kms from Butere to Kisumu and back? Aaah, that's nothing! Let's do it.
So i left at 3 pm (mistake) and I underestimated the climb from Kisumu to Maseno. Eventually I didn't get to tour Kisumu as much as i hoped due to limited time.
My mum had to drive a chase car from Yala and light the way as I arrived in the dark lol! Here's an overview of how it is to cycle this route, past Luanda, Maseno, Kisian.

Kenya Railways Revives Nairobi|Nakuru |Kisumu|Butere Train-See the Renovations
Butere is a town in western part of Kenya ,Kakamega County..it has an urban population of about 6500.Until 2010, the town was the capital of former Butere/Mumias District.
Butere town is located in Butere subcounty, in central Marama ward, a short drive from Kakamega town.
Butere doesn't have established industries apart from a few metal fabricators. Retail shops, butcheries, posho mills, and bars dominates the informal sector. The main economic activity is agriculture, with maize farming constituting the majority of cultivated crops.
The Kakamega county Government has recognized the need to capacitate satellite town such as Butere to ease the pressure on Kakamega town .This work has been commenced by setting up offices in all sub counties to reduce traffic to headquarters.

Mumias Town Review_Dormant but Potentially Vibrant Town
Mumias town is located in Kakamega County, Kenya, with a population of roughly 120, 000 people as of 2022. From Mumias, one can go to Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma, and Butere since there are roads that link to these places. The town experienced significant economic challenges, especially when the Mumias Sugar Company collapsed. This review is for the now old town from which people should relocate to the new town.

The NEW KISUMU RAILWAY STATION
Kisumu Railway Station, which is under construction by Kenya Railways, is located along Busia road and is near Kisumu Cotton Mills (KICOMI). It's 215km from Nakuru. The station and the route were active and vibrant in the 1980s and ’90s and linked Nairobi to the Western region before a sharp decline in the early 2000s.
