Day Trip to SALISBURY & STONEHENGE Vlog | Visiting a medieval cathedral city & a wonder of the world

Day Trip to Salisbury and Stonehenge | Travel Vlog✨

In this vlog, we are taking the bus from Bournemouth City Centre to Salisbury. The cathedral city of Salisbury is steeped in history and is one of the finest tourist destinations in Wiltshire. The city retains much of its medieval centre, with a delightful market square and traditional shopping streets, which lead to the Cathedral. Salisbury cathedral is visually stunning, the colossal spire stands at 123m, while the front façade is ornately carved. Housed in the cathedral is the world's oldest clock and the Magna Carta, an ancient 1215 charter that details the power and limits of the King.

Salisbury is also 9 miles from Stonehenge. So we take the bus there and we take a walk through 5000 years of history. Stonehenge is one of the wonders of the world and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe. It consists of an outer ring of vertical sarsen standing stones, each around 13 feet high, seven feet wide, and weighing around 25 tons, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones.

Enjoy✨

Amesbury (/ˈeɪmzbəri/) is a town and civil parish in Wiltshire, England. It is most famous for the prehistoric monument of Stonehenge which is in its parish, and for the discovery of the Amesbury Archer—dubbed the King of Stonehenge in the press—in 2002. It has been confirmed by archaeologists that it is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United Kingdom, having been first settled around 8820 BC.[2]

King Alfred the Great left it in his will, a copy of which is in the British Library, to his youngest son Aethelweard (c.880-922).

Eleanor of Provence, Queen consort of Henry III of England, died in Amesbury on 24 or 25 June 1291, and was buried in Amesbury Priory.

The parish includes the hamlets of Ratfyn and West Amesbury, and most of Boscombe Down military airfield.Economy
Avient Aviation had its United Kingdom offices in the Minton Distribution Park in Amesbury.[23][24]

Transport
Amesbury is 6 miles (10 km) from the nearest station at Grateley on the London to Salisbury line. The town's own station, Amesbury railway station, was closed in 1963 along with the rest of the Bulford Camp Railway.

Amesbury Bus Station closed in January 2014 along with the station in nearby Salisbury as a cost cutting measure,[25] but longer distance Salisbury Reds services still stop in the town. Stagecoach operate a Salisbury-Amesbury-Tidworth-Andover service,[26] and National Express coaches run Salisbury-Amesbury-London.[27]

Amesbury Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Wiltshire, and around 7 miles north of Salisbury, is the town of Amesbury.

It is claimed that Amesbury is the oldest occupied settlement in Great Britain, with an archaeological dig in the area discovering footprints, tools and bones dating from circa 8000 BC. Around 4000 years later, Neolithic farmers set about moving earth during the initial stages of the construction of Stonehenge, to which Amesbury is the closest town around 2 miles east of the ancient monument.

In 979 AD a Benedictine abbey known as the Abbey of St Mary and St Melor was founded in Amesbury. This was dissolved by Henry II in 1177 who founded Amesbury Priory in its place, which was disestablished in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The connecting church dating from the late 12th century survived as the parish church, which it remains to this day.

Historically, Amesbury was a coaching stop for those travelling between London and Exeter by stagecoach between the 17th and 19th centuries, as well as visiting Stonehenge. Its visitors have included Thomas Fairfax - Parliamentary commander-in-chief during the English Civil War, and Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, who masterminded victory over the French at the Battle of Waterloo.

For centuries, Amesbury was a small market town with a population of less than 1000 recorded in the first census of 1801. From the late 19th century up until the Second World War, the Ministry of Defence bought up large areas of land on Salisbury Plain. This is the chalk plateau situated just north of Amesbury. With this, the town experienced growth as a distribution and service centre for the military population.

In 1902 a railway station opened at Amesbury. It formed part of the Bulford Camp Railway, whose line closed in 1963. Today, public transport to Amesbury consists of direct bus services from Salisbury and Andover.

I Snuck into Britain's Most SACRED SITE

Blick Mead is, according to our best experts, the genesis of the Stonehenge ritual landscape. I emailed the old folks home at Amesbury Abbey, politely asking to visit the site but they never got back to me. So after a nice Italian dinner and a bottle of wine, I suddenly had the courage to go and see Blick Mead for myself.

Bulford Church - The Loudest Quietest Church in Wiltshire

Found this beautiful church and annoyingly loud birds and insects in a quiet part of Wiltshire. Well, it was quiet for a while until they started. And of course I went the wrong way.

Bures St Mary 6.5km. Stunning scenery! #walking #hiking #stunning

This walk is something of a rarity for Suffolk, this walk spans hills that are amongst the most tightly clustered for the area. Bures St Mary and Bures Hamlet sit either side of the River Stour, the former in in Suffolk, the later in Essex.
Timber framed cottages abound surrounding the 13th Century church of St Mary, from which the village derives it's name.
Hills, and views to die for, this walk takes us through views beloved by both Constable and Gainsborough, passed St Stephen's chapel, dating from 1218, it is the oldest building in Bures and is generally accepted as the place where a 14 yr old Edmund was crowned King of the East Angles on Christmas Day 855 AD.
