Places to see in ( Broadstairs - UK )
Broadstairs is a coastal town on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England, about 80 miles east of London. Broadstairs is part of the civil parish of Broadstairs and St Peter's, which includes St Peter's.
Situated between Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is one of Thanet's seaside resorts, known as the Jewel in Thanet's crown. The town's crest motto is Stella Maris (Star of the Sea). The name derives from a former flight of steps in the chalk cliff, which led from the sands up to the 11th-century shrine of St Mary on the cliff's summit.
Broadstairs town spreads from Haine Road in the west to Kingsgate (named after the landing of King Charles II in 1683) a hamlet in St Peter parish in the north and to Dumpton in the south (named after the yeoman Dudeman who farmed there in the 13th century). The hamlet of Reading (formerly Reden or Redyng) Street was established by Flemish refugees in the 17th century.
The town lies above a harbour with cliffs on either side. Broadstairs has seven bays of golden sand, which are (from south to north) Dumpton Gap, Louisa Bay, Viking Bay, Stone Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate Bay and Botany Bay. North Foreland rises between Stone Bay and Joss Bay. On the cliffs above Kingsgate Bay is Kingsgate Castle, formerly part of the estate of Lord Holland but now converted into private residences. Broadstairs has a very mild maritime climate.
The town of Broadstairs is situated 20 miles (32 km) from both Dover and Canterbury, and about 60 miles (97 km) from the M25, London's orbital motorway. Broadstairs is also served by Southeastern train services to/from London, via either North Kent and Medway or Canterbury and High Speed 1. It is unusual in that trains to London can run either way through the station.

Often referred to as the Garden of England due to its endless acres of orchards and lush gardens, the county of Kent offers no end of fun things to do for those willing to wander a little further off the beaten track.
Not only is Kent well-known for its relatively mild climate, it also boasts some of England's oldest and most important historic attractions. It was in Kent that the Romans launched their invasion of England some 55 years before the birth of Christ, and where, over 500 years later, the Christian faith was first introduced to the island nation. As a result of these events, you'll often find Roman ruins brushing up against important religious sites, as is the case in the cathedral city of Canterbury.
Kent also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in England. Visit the east coast of Kent, and you'll see the famous White Cliffs of Dover looking out towards neighboring France, visible in the distance. This same coastline is home to some 50 or more Kentish beaches, most of them easy day trips from London.

Only an hour and a half from London on the train this makes a great day trip to explore a beautiful area with white cliffs, sandy bays and traditional seaside towns, There are also so many places to stop and eat on the way, plus lots if history including Charles Dickens' Bleak House. You just need to get out of your front door to explore and get some great exercise to make yourself feel so much better about life.

Join us for a walk in Broadstairs, Kent, UK. Our walk starts with fabulous views of Viking Bay. We explore Broadstairs seafront and Broadstairs town and take a walk along Viking Bay and Broadstairs Harbour.
Broadstairs is a coastal town on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England, about 80 miles east of London. Situated between Margate and Ramsgate, Broadstairs is one of Thanet's seaside resorts, known as the jewel in Thanet's crown.
Viking Bay beach, the main beach in Broadstairs, won the Blue Flag in 2006. In summer, this bay is often very busy with tourists enjoying cafes and ice-cream outlets. On Harbour Street, the Pavilion on the Sands hosts a summer show and all-year entertainment, with extensive views across the bay.
Broadstairs High Street has a wide variety of independent shops. Broadstairs town has a great selection of cafes, restaurants and bars - two 1950's ice-cream parlours Morelli's and Chiappini's provide flavourful scoops of nostalgia.
Broadstairs town lies above a harbour with cliffs on either side. Broadstairs has seven beaches and in this video we take a walk along Viking Bay. Broadstairs town's main beach, Viking Bay, has children's rides, beach huts, surfing, a harbour and cliff-top promenade.
Broadstairs was Charles Dickens’ favourite holiday destination and you will see his influence all over the town. The Dickens House Museum on the seafront, displays many artefacts relating to Charles Dickens and his life in Broadstairs.
There is a small cinema, The Palace Cinema in Harbour Street. It opened in 1965 as the Windsor Cinema, and was renamed the Palace in 2006.
Broadstairs Sailing Club in Harbour Street once had former prime minister Edward Heath as a member.
