Places to see in ( Brandon - UK )
Places to see in ( Brandon - UK )
Brandon is a small town and civil parish in the English county of Suffolk. It is in the Forest Heath local government district. Brandon is located in the Breckland area on the border of Suffolk with the adjoining county of Norfolk. Surrounded by Forestry Commission and agricultural land it is considered a rural town.
According to Eilert Ekwall (The Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names) the likely origin of the name is Brandon, usually 'hill where broom grows', the earliest known spelling being in the 11th century when the town, gradually expanding up and along the rising ground of the river valley, was called Bromdun.
From prehistoric times the area was mined for flint as can be seen at Grimes Graves, a popular Brandon tourist destination. Much more recently, the town was a major centre for the production of gunflints. The Domesday Book records that the manor of Brandon in 1086 had 25 households. In medieval times and beyond Brandon was renowned for its rabbit fur.
The town's current population is recorded as 9,636 people in the 2011 UK Census. Brandon has three schools; two primary, Forest Academy and Glade Primary School; and one High School, IES Breckland. Brandon's population has steadily increased since the Second World War due to immigration. After the war there was an influx of servicemen from Poland who settled in the town and also in nearby Weeting, Norfolk. The Cold War saw many American service people and their families billeted in and around the town. The Greater London Council oversaw the building of a large Council estate off Thetford Road and Bury Road in the 1970s and many London families were relocated to Brandon during that time.
Brandon is situated on the A1065 Mildenhall to Fakenham road. It often suffers severe congestion due to large amounts of commuter traffic, holiday traffic travelling to the Norfolk Coast and HGVs. Several bus routes and National Express coach services pass through the town as well. Brandon railway station has an hourly service to Cambridge and Ely to the West and to Thetford and Norwich in the East.
Regular bus services operate from Brandon to the neighbouring towns of Bury St. Edmunds, Mildenhall and Thetford. There are also infrequent services (at school and shopping times) to Downham Market, King's Lynn and Norwich. Flowing in an easterly direction the Little Ouse river is navigable through the town.

Places to see in ( Bristol - UK ) Brandon Hill
Brandon Hill, also known as St Brandon's Hill, is a hill close to Bristol city centre, between the districts of Clifton and Hotwells, in south west England. At the summit is the Cabot Tower, opened in 1897 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot's voyage from Bristol to Newfoundland in 1497.
The upper part of the Brandon Hill is a steep park, divided into informal gardens, a small nature reserve and open grassland. The two-hectare nature reserve has been run since 1980 by the Avon Wildlife Trust who have their headquarters beside the park. The wildflower meadow includes ox-eye daisies, yellow rattle and knapweed. A pond provides a breeding site for frogs, toads and smooth newts. The butterfly garden supplies food for caterpillars and many kinds of butterflies. Birds such as jay, bullfinch and blackcap are seen in the reserve. Native trees and shrubs have been planted, and the meadow is cut for hay in July.
The lower slopes of the Brandon Hill were developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. St George's Church lies on Great George Street on the eastern slope, Berkeley Square is on the northern edge, and the school buildings of Queen Elizabeth's Hospital are on the western side.

BRISTOL, ENGLAND TRAVEL VLOG ◆ One Day Exploring The City Centre, Brandon Hill, & Redcliffe On Foot!
[Filmed October 27, 2020] PLEASE NOTE: Bristol was in Tier 2 on the date this video was filmed, and we had traveled from another Tier 1 area. All of the UK’s hands-face-space guidelines were followed, and Derek and I strictly adhered to all local rules and regulations.
Morning rain and afternoon sunshine - quite a day of contrasts!!!
After walking from our AirBNB in Bedminster and crossing the River Avon in the rain, Derek and I started our walking tour of Bristol at a great local café called Spicer + Cole. YUM!
Thankfully by the afternoon, the clouds disappeared and the sun came out, which allowed us to go on a self-guided walking tour around Bristol City!
We saw so many sites: Bristol Cathedral, Queen Square, Bristol Centre, Castle Park, Brandon Hill Park, and much more!
We absolutely loved learning about each of the Bristol attractions we passed. Additionally, while I didn't grab any footage indoors, I was so pleased to also walk into several wonderful art supply shops which is a favorite pass time of mine!
Hope you enjoy today’s Bristol, England vlog!
Cheers! Happy travels!

Top best places to visit in Bristol, England
Bristol, the largest city in South West England, is one of the most interesting cities in the UK.
This city has an eclectic combination of architectural styles and is one of the most culturally vibrant towns in England. By locals Bristol is called Brizzle or Bristle.
A good place to start exploring the city is the Castle Park with the ruins of St Peter’s Church and the ruins of Bristol Castle.
This used to be a network of busy streets and shops until it was bombed during the second world war.
In the Old Town there are plenty of interesting buildings from most of the architectural periods of the UK.
In this neighborhood there also is the Queen Square, a garden with the Statue of William III.
A short walk from there is the St Mary Radcliffe Church.
Which has been a place of Christian worship for over 900 years.
But the most prominent church is the Bristol Cathedral.
Founded in the Norman era it is the seat of the diocese of Bristol.
Besides the cathedral on College Green are also the Central Library and the City Hall, the seat of local government.
Not far away from there is the Georgian House, a well-preserved example of a typical 18th century town house.
The next place to go is the city’s major museum, the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery,
And a landmark of the University of Bristol, the Wills Memorial Building.
Further along the same street are the Royal West of England Academy of Art and the Victoria Rooms.
Possibly the city’s most famous landmark, spanning the spectacular Avon Gorge and the River Avon at a height of 75m, is the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
On top of the Clifton Hill, right at the bridge, is a nice park and the Observatory with camera obscura and an entrance to the cave.
In Clifton district is one of the most expensive streets in the city.
Royal York Crescent, which was reputed to be the longest terrace in Europe.
The best place to see the city from high up is Cabot Tower on Brandon Hill.
From there, there is a nice view of the Old Town,
And Harbor.
