Top ten things to see in Scotland
1. Loch Ness and the Great Glen
A geological rift split the land from coast to coast, once dividing Scotland in two. Glaciers deepened the trench and the
result today is a long glen of steep-sided, wooded mountains and dark, mysterious lochs. Castles and forts abound,
bearing witness to the Great Glen's strategic importance and enhancing its dramatic grandeur with intrigue and nostalgia.
And, of course, there's the legendary Loch Ness monster, elusive but irrepressible, and still attracting scientific
interest -- keep that camera to hand.
2. Edinburgh Castle
Dominating the city's skyline as it has done for over 800 years, this castle is a national icon and, deservedly, the
country's most popular visitor attraction. Din Eidyn, the stronghold of Eidyn, from which Edinburgh takes its name,
was the vital possession in Scotland's wars. Varying roles as royal palace, barracks, prison and parliament have all
helped shape this castle, home to the Scottish crown jewels and the fabled Stone of Destiny.
3. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Scotland's most visited collection is more popular than ever, since a 27.9 million pound refurbishment allowed even more
of its fascinating collection of art and artifacts to be seen. Some 8,000 works of major international significance are
displayed over three floors of gallery space. The diverse collection takes in world-wide ancient cultures, gives a
comprehensive view of European and Scottish art across the centuries, and provides insights into 20th-century Glasgow
life. Contrasting displays in open spaces demonstrate Kelvingrove's quirky sense of fun
4. Isle of Skye
The product of violent geographical upheavals, the misty isle is justly famed for its towering, ragged mountains
wild coastline. Add to these a colourful patchwork of crofts (farms), waterfalls, an exceptional whisky, a castle linked
to the fairy world and the historical romance of Bonnie Prince Charlie, and you find on Skye all the ingredients that
best symbolize the Highlands.
5. Glasgow Science Centre
This £75-million millennium project is a pure delight. The heart of the centre is the Science Mall, a glass-sided silver
crescent with three floors of hands-on exhibits, demonstrations and special-effect theatres. Adjacent to this is the
world's only revolving tower and an IMAX cinema projecting gigantic 3D films.
6. The Cairngorms
The highest mountain massif in the British Isles comprises a magnificent range of peaks, wild lochs and ancient forests,
as well as bird sanctuaries, nature reserves and sports amenities. It is a region of exceptional scenery and habitats
that have not been divided by roads. Activities take place on its fringe, but the heartland remains open only to those
who travel by foot or on skis. It is this relative isolation that makes it so appealing both for the wildlife that
inhabits the region and for the people who thrive on the testing terrain.
7.The Falkirk Wheel
An engineering design wonder, this huge structure was built to connect the
Union and Forth and Clyde Canals for east to west coast access for boats. The technical genius makes this a fascinating
sight, and it's a great day out for the whole family, adults and children alike.
8.Edinburgh Zoo
It has been open since 1913, and it's still one of the top Scottish attractions. Edinburgh Zoo gives you the opportunity
to meet over 1,000 animals, and is the most exciting wildlife attraction in Scotland.
Of all the things to see and do in Scotland, this is one of them. The highlight is the daily Penguin Parade.
9. Culzean Castle
Formerly a rather dull fortified tower house, Culzean (pronounced Cullane) was transformed by the architect Robert Adam
into a mansion of sumptuous proportions and elegance. The work began in 1777 and lasted almost 20 years, the Kennedy
family sparking little expense in the decoration and craftsmanship of their clifftop home. Culzean -- a masterpiece in a
land full of magnificent castles -- was gifted to the nation and fully restored in the 1970s. Its grounds became Scotland's
first public country park in 1969.
10.Glasgow Cathedral
In Scotland, round about AD550 St Mungo, the first Bishop of the British Kingdom of Strathclyde, founded a religious
community around a small church, in an area that was to become known as Glasgow. The present stone building was built
during the 13th century, on the site where He is believed to have been buried in AD612.

Old Photographs Denny Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Denny town in the Falkirk area. Formerly in the county of Stirlingshire. It is situated 7 miles west of Falkirk, and 6 miles north east of Cumbernauld, adjacent to both the M80 and M876 motorways. Denny is separated from neighbouring village Dunipace by the River Carron. Until the early 1980s, Denny was a centre for heavy industry, including several iron foundries, brickworks, a coal mine and paper mills. Thomas Bain was born in Denny on December 14, 1834. He was a Canadian parliamentarian. He was the son of Walter Bain, and migrated to Canada with his family when he was three years old. They settled on a bush farm in Wentworth County near Hamilton, Ontario. He was elected to the County Council in the 1860s and became Warden. He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1872 federal election as a Liberal. He was re-elected on six subsequent occasions, serving as a Member of Parliament for 28 years before retiring in 1900. In the House, he usually spoke on agricultural issues, and became Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Colonization in 1896. In 1874, he married Helen Weir. When the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, James David Edgar, died unexpectedly in July 1899, Wilfrid Laurier asked Bain to become the new Speaker for the remainder of Egar's term. Bain served as Speaker until the House was dissolved for the 1900 election in which he did not run. After retiring from politics, Bain became President of the Landed Banking and Loan Company and the Malcolm and Souter Furniture Company. He died in Dundas, on January 18, 1915, Ontario at age 80. Carl William Dunn Kirkwood was born on 30 April 1929 in Denny. He was the son of iron jobbing moulder William Kirkwood and his wife Ellen. He completed his schooling in Scotland and then served in the British Army in Malaya and Singapore from 1946 to 1948. He worked as a jobbing moulder, in Australia in 1955. He was soon active both in the Moulders' Union and the Labor Party's Preston branch. In 1970 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Preston. He became spokesman on local government immediately, adding lands from 1976 to 1977 and dropping his front bench role entirely in 1981. Kirkwood retired in 1988. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

MAP OF SCOTLAND
hello, my friends. this is a map of Scotland. Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Covering the northern third of the island of Great Britain, mainland Scotland has a 96-mile border with England to the southeast and is otherwise surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, the North Sea to the northeast and east, and the Irish Sea to the south. It also contains more than 790 islands, principally in the archipelagos of the Hebrides and the Northern Isles. Most of the population, including the capital Edinburgh, is concentrated in the Central Belt—the plain between the Scottish Highlands and the Southern Uplands—in the Scottish Lowlands.
Scotland is divided into 32 administrative subdivisions or local authorities, known as council areas. Glasgow City is the largest council area in terms of population, with Highland being the largest in terms of area. Limited self-governing power, covering matters such as education, social services and roads and transportation, is devolved from the Scottish Government to each subdivision. thats all. please comment and subscribe for the best maps. goodbye.

In this video from our Ranwell Video series, we visit High Bonnybridge in Scotland. We see 37262 with a container train, and 56123 heading in the opposite direction with an oil train. Filmed: 02/04/1996.
Walking the Antonine Wall Trail - Castlecary to Falkirk, Scotland, directions and Roman history
This is the walking route from Castlecary to Falkirk, following the path of the Antonine Wall, built by the Romans after their invasion of Scotland (Caledonia). The film shows what remains today of the wall, the Roman forts and some beautiful scenery. We walked the best preserved and most scenic parts of the wall, between Kirkintilloch and Falkirk, over two days, this film shows our walk on day two.
You will have heard of Hadrian’s Wall, which the Romans built across Britain, but you may not be aware that they built a second wall further north, the Antonine Wall. The Romans built this wall between AD 142-4, in Scotland, which they occupied for at least 20 years. It extended over 37 miles from the Clyde to the Forth. On day one we had walked the scenic route from Kirkintilloch to Castlecary, where we stayed overnight. Along the way we had visited Bar Hill fort and the well-preserved ditch at East Dullator.
Day Two – This walking route boasts some of the best preserved stretches of the Antonine Wall ditch at Seabegs Wood, Rough Castle, Watling Lodge and Bantaskin. It also has the impressive earth fortifications of the Roman fort at Rough Castle. You can also visit the impressive feat of modern design and engineering, the Falkirk Wheel. The film also gives directions for the walking route which was just under 10 miles long approx.
Route:
1/ We started from Catlecary Road, Castlecary, cross the bridge over the motorway and then take the first right to visit the site of the Castlecary fort.
2/ Retrace your steps and continue east briefly along the B816, taking the first path on your left which takes you over a bridge to the Forth and Clyde canal towpath, which you follow east.
3/After about 2.5km you will come to Seabegs Wood, on the opposite side of the canal. Follow the footpath on your left, through the underpass to visit the scenic tree-lined ditch in the wood.
4/ Retrace your steps and continue east along the canal towpath until you reach and cross the road bridge over the canal at Bonnybridge. Continue down Broomhill Road, turn left down the winding Foundry Road, over the railway bridge and eventually you will arrive at Rough Castle.
5/ After Rough Castle cross over the ditch and continue east, over a stile and through the woods to Falkirk Wheel for refreshments.
6/ Make your way to Tamfourhill Road, along which there are glimpses of overgrown ditch from a number of paths.
7/ Shortly on your right is a well-preserved stretch of tree-lined wall at Watling Lodge.
8/Continue along Glenfuir Road until reach close on your right, follow this to Bantaskin, where you will find another picturesque tree-lined stretch of wall.
9/Exit down the steps into Queens Drive, make your way to the B8080, eastwards to Callandar Park, for another stretch of ditch. Callandar House if open has refreshments and an exhibition of the Wall.
10/This brings you to the end of the day 2 route. If you are following the 2 day walking route make your to the nearby Falkirk High train station, where you can catch a train to Lenzie station to return to your car and from there to your accommodation.
Tips: My advice come prepared for all types of weather, it didn’t stop raining on day 2!
