Luxury cruising along the Ayeyarwady River in Myanmar I Heritage Line 'Anawrahta' (Official)

Heritage Line crafts memorable voyages along fascinating rivers in South East Asia. A perfect mix of luxury, authenticity, adventure and comfort.

Heritage Line's Anawrahta – built to resemble a British-Colonial paddle steamer – sets the utmost levels of extravagance on Myanmar’s waterways. The “Golden Land” is nick-named after the light reflecting off the myriads of golden temples casting a warm glow over the country. A picturesque country of elaborate pagodas, local fishermen, ever so friendly people and a rich cultural history.

There are two carefully crafted voyages of various lengths available to discover the most of the Ayeyarwady River. The 4-,3- and 2-night cruise options between Bagan and Mandalay or vice versa cover the central region of the country with all its major sights and spots, while our 7-night expedition cruises from Mandalay and up to the remote north of Myanmar on a roundtrip journey.

A wonderful blend of culture and tradition, local encounters and village life mixed with adventure and informative demonstrations will await Heritage Line’s passengers.

3 Days 3 Nights in Myanmar

Burma or Myanmar? Let me answer this question. Burma is the old name of Myanmar which was officially changed in 1989. In that year, the military run government took power and changed the country’s name as a movement to include all ethnic groups while still retaining Burmese culture. However, some people still call it Burma, especially the older generations. And if there’s anywhere in Myanmar that feels frozen in time, it’s Bagan. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was inscribed last year, a quarter of a century after this complex of Buddhist temples had first been nominated. The sacred landscape here houses more than 3,500 surviving stupas, temples, monasteries, fortifications and other structures dating from the 9th to the 13th centuries. The overall architecture really reflects the strength of religious devotion of an early Buddhist empire. Moreover, as we dive into Myanmar tourism, a name which we will undoubtedly hear is Aung San Suu Kyi. She is one of the main politicians credited with helping to weaken the military’s power in Myanmar. She has proved with her actions to people the great power of non-violence, kindness, love, courage, and persistence. For all her efforts, she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. Although she was being placed under house arrest for over 15 years, she now holds the position of State Counsellor which is similar to the Prime Minister in other parts of the world.

During the trip, I visited some tourism spots such as Nyaung-U, Old Bagan, New Bagan, Shwezigon Pagoda, Htilominlo Temple, Ananda Temple, Thatbyinnyu Temple, Shwesandaw Pagoda, Dhammayangyi Temple, Sulamani Temple, Sulamani Manmade Sunset Hill, Bupaya Pagoda, Tharabar Gate, Irrawaddy River, Naypyidaw, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Golden Rock Pagoda), Kyaik Htee Yoe Mountain, Kinpun, Kyaikto, Yangon, Yangon's Chinatown, Aung Mingalar Bus Station, 19th Street, Shwedagon Pagoda, Sule Pagoda, Mahabandoola Park, Rosewood Yangon, Old Tourist Burma Building, Mya Nandar, Yangon Custom House, Myanma Port Authority, Kyauktada Post Office, Central Fire Station, UFC Tower, Pansodan Road, and Strand Road. I had my breakfast, lunch, tea time, dinner, and supper at many different places such as Baw Ga Noodle House, Rangoon Tea House, Chinatown 125 Café, Win Restaurant, Kosan Double Happiness Bar, and Mogok Noodle Bar. All the places I visited were the best so far.

The local foods and drinks which are filled with flavor and unique spices that are central to Burmese culture like Sugar Palatar, Shan Noodles, Mohinga, Rice Pancake, Si Lone Tea, Steamed Chicken Vermicelli Soup, Burmese Sweet Pork Curry, Burmese Mixed Rice, Myanmar Beer, Mandalay Rum Mojito, and Shanghai Mule. All of them are super good.

Although it’s my first time visiting the country, I was not disappointed at all. This time, I only visited Bagan, Mount Kyaiktiyo, and Yangon. The silhouette of the pagodas in the distance contrasted against the yellow sun was definitely a highlight of my trip to Bagan. When I look back to my trip to Bagan, I often reminisce about the e-bikes and the fantastic, fun and intrepid adventures they enabled me to have. Whether we choose to spend our time in Bagan, this charming land promises to fill us with peace and leave us with memories that will last a lifetime. Moreover, during my Myanmar trip, I felt perfectly safe and welcomed the entire time. Therefore, I really urge you to go and see this country for yourself. For myself, hopefully I’ll be back again to cover other cities in Myanmar. Yeah!
