BINGHAMTON, NY: in the Southern Tier
Binghamton is the county seat of Broome County, and sits at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers roughly six miles north of the Pennsylvania line in the Southern Tier. It was once a major city in New York, but now is the 14th biggest city, and it clearly has seen better days. It currently is mostly kept afloat by Binghamton University (one of my alma maters) just outside the city. But enjoy this tour all around the city, and judge for yourself!

Trip to Binghamton, New York
My overnight Sunday-Monday stay in Binghamton. Just north of the Pocono Mountains, this sleepy city is a college town with some signs of life, and a relatively low cost of living.
The cheapest good hotel is in the video. On the bus map the Red Roof is located just left of the words Johnson City. It is located a short walk from the transit terminal (Broome County Transit) at the mall, so you don't need a car (but no buses on Sundays).
The three generations of GM buses operating simultaneously was the most memorable sight from my initial contact with Binghamton (actual photo is buried in some slide carousel, but you can see the tail light of the fishbowl in this picture).
In 1979 I was a camp counselor at Island Lake. On my day off would take friends in my '72 Toyota wagon (pictured, my first car) to Oakdale Mall in Johnson City. So I wanted to see the town and mall again, and ride the ample greenway network, which is why I took this trip.
