Barking & Dagenham ¦ Love Your London ¦ (5/7) ¦ Valence House, Becontree Estate, Parsloes Park
Now in Dagenham territory, Tristán White and Sharon Crawford start at Chadwell Heath and, after a quick visit to Dudley Moore's old house, they visit the fabulous Valence House where they come face to face with the famous Dagenham Idol. They give you a guided tour of the Museum (one of the top 50 free things to do in London according to The Guardian), followed by a visit to the Archives and Local Studies Centre. They continue through the Becontree Estate until they reach the Cherry Tree pub, talk about the BHAA and the importance of allotments to the Becontree area, and then it's a trip to Parsloes Park, a place undergoing a tremendous rewilding project, where a Miyawaki forest is being grown and the Gores Brook will soon be visible again as it is soon to be unculverted. They finish at Becontree station, after a pitstop at Popeye's for sausage and chips.

Wicked Lady song by ➜
Joolz and Simon are joined by Council Leader Darren Rodwell as they wander around Dagenham and see how the town has changed from a bunch of little villages to a busy thriving industrial part of London.
Find out all about The Wicked Lady at The Valance House Museum, where they also have the Dagenham Idol, the oldest carving of a human being in Europe!
The Beacontree Estate which houses thousands of people and the PEARL building where they can recreate any atmosphere in the world.
There's the Eva Hart pub named after the last survivor of the Titanic and the Civic building which was used as Donald Tump's office in a Netflix series.
There's also the Sterling Machine Gun Factory and Dagenham and Redbridge football club plus all the medieval listed building in the village.
As usual lots of fun and banter in this cultural and historical London walk.

Places to see in ( Chigwell - UK )
Chigwell is a civil parish and town in the Epping Forest district of Essex. Adjacent to the northern boundary of Greater London, it is considered part of the metropolitan area of London and the Greater London Urban Area. It is on the Central line of the London Underground. With Loughton and Buckhurst Hill, it is said to form part of the Essex golden triangle of wealthy places .
The local council of the civil parish is Chigwell Parish Council. The parish council originally existed from 1894 to 1933, and was created again in 1996. The parish council offices are located on Hainault Road. Councillors are elected from three wards: Grange Hill, Chigwell Row and Chigwell Village. Local councillors are also elected to Epping Forest District Council and Essex County Council.
The hamlet of Chigwell Row lies towards the east of Chigwell, near Lambourne; this part of the parish is well forested and mostly rural. Grange Hill is the area around the junction of Manor Road and Fencepiece Road/Hainault Road, extending as far as the boundary with Redbridge including the Limes Farm estate. Chigwell has a population of around 12,500 and is generally considered a wealthy area.
All bus services are Transport for London services, except route X5 and school routes 43, 804. Routes 150 and X5 only serve Chigwell Row. Routes 362 and 462 only serve Grange Hill. Chigwell is served by Chigwell station and Grange Hill station (further south bordering Hainault), both on the Central line of the London Underground. For a more frequent service to London there are also nearby Buckhurst Hill, Woodford, Loughton and Hainault stations as services between Grange Hill and Woodford are limited to three trains per hour in each direction, with an increased service during morning peak hours.
( Chigwell - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Chigwell . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Chigwell - UK

Places to see in ( Barking - UK )
Places to see in ( Barking - UK )
Barking is a suburban town in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, England, 8.8 miles east of Charing Cross. Historically an ancient parish in Essex, its economic history is characterised by a shift from fishing and farming to market gardening and industrial development south of the River Thames.
The railway station opened in 1854 and has been served by the London Underground since 1908. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Barking significantly expanded and increased in population, primarily due to the development of the London County Council estate at Becontree in the 1920s, and became a municipal borough in 1931, and part of Greater London in 1965. In addition to an extensive and fairly low-density residential area, the town centre forms a large retail and commercial district, currently a focus for regeneration. The former industrial lands to the south are being redeveloped as Barking Riverside.
Barking was a large ancient parish of 12,307 acres (49.80 km2) in the Becontree hundred of Essex. It was divided into the wards of Chadwell, Ilford, Ripple and Town. A local board was formed for Town ward in 1882 and it was extended to cover Ripple ward in 1885. In 1888 Ilford and Chadwell were split off as a new parish of Ilford, leaving a residual parish of 3,814 acres (15.43 km2).
Barking Town Centre is being regenerated through a number of schemes. It is one of the most deprived areas of Barking. The Abbey and Gascoigne wards in the town centre are ranked 823rd and 554th respectively - within the 10% most deprived wards in the country. The Barking Riverside development is part of the London Riverside project, which aims to regenerate the Thames riverside area of East London through new homes, jobs, and services. Barking Riverside consists of 350 acres.
The town is situated north of the A13 road and east of the River Roding near its confluence with the River Thames in east London. The South Woodford to Barking Relief Road (part of the A406 North Circular Road) runs through the Roding Valley, and access to the town centre is by its junction with the A124, which until the late 1920s was the main route to and from London. Barking station is a local transport hub and is served by the London Underground, London Overground, c2c and London Bus and East London Transit routes. The east of Barking is served by Upney tube station.
( Barking - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Barking . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Barking - UK

Full Route Visual | Go Ahead London Route EL2: Dagenham Dock - Becontree Heath | LT918 (LTZ2118)
I took a C2C train from Grays and I was originally intending to get off at Barking and do a visual on either the 169 or possibly even the 104 or 262. However, I wasn't sure there would be time, and I didn't fancy doing the 238. Therefore I decided to quickly do a visual of the EL2 before going to the NTA's.
The terminus at Dagenham Dock is so dead, I actually got lost when I got off the train at one point, wasn't really sure where to go. The route is pretty quick and it was nice being in Barking again for the first time since 2016(!) Yes it's been that long lol. The route used to go to Ilford but in 2016 it was rerouted to serve Becontree Heath, following the 5 route. It still feels strange being on a New Routemaster outside of Central London in my opinion. When I got off at Becontree Heath I took a photo at the bus stop but I was confronted by the driver who was angry and I deleted the photo. I walked to the bus stand and I managed to get a better pic of the bus without the driver in sight (which cost me a bit of time as well, I should have left it as I got a pic of the same bus at Dagenham Dock at the start).
After this visual, I took a 175 to Dagenham Heathway, then made my way to the NTA's via Tube.
Route EL2 is operated by Go Ahead London from River Road garage, allocated with Wrightbus New Routemasters in East London Transit livery. It runs at a frequency of Every 8 minutes on Mondays to Fridays, Every 10 minutes on Saturdays and Every 15 minutes on Sundays.

District Line S Stock Train: DAGENHAM HEATHWAY - BECONTREE
Out on the eastern edge of the District Line on a rather empty S stock train, travelling between Dagenham Heathway and Becontree Stations.
The Wimbledon destination seemed to not work out on this side of the District Line as they usually only run to Edgware Road or Tower Hill.
