Day 4: Coles Bay to Beaumaris - 100.9km

Day 4: Coles Bay to Beaumaris - 100.9km
Tuesday 21st December 2021

I was pretty pleased to smash out a large portion of the east coast.

Leaving Coles Bay in the morning, the beautiful scenery of the mountains were behind me as I was leaving, but that was okay, I got the good views of them as I was riding into and around Coles Bay the day before.

What to say about the ride? It was mostly flat for the best part, I managed to cover some big ks over short times, which I was pleasantly surprised with. It was mostly riding through bush, until I passed the town of Bicheno, then I was riding alongside the coast for most of the remainder of the day.

I barely stopped, I figured that I was making such good time, that I would just power through to my destination and eat when I got there. So I just had the occasional brief stop, recuperated for a minute or two, and then carried on my merry way. I honestly thought that I was smashing it and I was making good progress, and I was. This is easy I thought. But I hit a bit of a brick wall on the last 15km....I powered on through, but some of the uphills had become noticeably harder than they were earlier in the day.

It's okay to make a mistake, as long as you learn from it.....well it turns out I never learn from mine. I think my issue was that I am making the same mistakes that I made when I was hiking through New Zealand, not eating enough. When I got to Scamander, although only 4-5km from finishing, I did have to stop and pick up some food. A couple of bananas and I was good to power through to Beaumaris.
(And I definitely made up for it that evening.... I inhaled two dinners).
(And I probably did make this same mistake again on this trip in Tasmania??....and I’m sure I’ll make it again….).

I got to The Surfside hostel/hotel/motel pretty early in the afternoon. And was actually able to enjoy my time on the beach that was just across the road from the hostel. A chilled out evening with a walk along beach as the sun was setting.

Oh, yeah, and my pedals were all okay.

And don't forget, it's not too late to donate at
