Bartlesville, OK is a great place to walk and see some extremely historic sites. Most notable of these is the Price Tower. Price Tower, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, stands in downtown Bartlesville. It is Wright's only realized skyscraper, and one of only two vertically oriented Wright structures extant (the other is the S.C. Johnson Wax Research Tower in Racine, Wisconsin).

Bartlesville, OK is notable as the longtime home of Phillips Petroleum Company. Frank Phillips founded Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville in 1905 when the area was still an Indian Territory. The company merged with Conoco as ConocoPhillips and later split into the two independent companies, Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips. Both companies have retained some operations in Bartlesville, but they have moved their corporate headquarters to Houston.

It is one of two places in Oklahoma where a Lenape Native American tribe lives, the other being Anadarko

On The Road Bartlesville

On the Road...Rediscovering Cherokee Nation
Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway, or just a Saturday afternoon road trip - here in the Cherokee Nation, there are many sights to see. In this installment, we're visiting...

Bartlesville Area History Museum
401 S Johnstone Ave
Bartlesville, Okla.

The Bartlesville Area History Museum is located on the top floor of the City Center, which is a piece of history in its own as it once was home to the Hotel Marie during the oil boom.

In this 10,000-square-foot facility, the rich story of Bartlesville and surrounding areas unfolds through interactive displays, intriguing artifacts and exceptional photography.

Bartlesville has a history that mirrors many communities within the Cherokee Nation. It has deep roots that date back before white settlement and statehood with connections to the Cherokee, Delaware and Osage tribes.

This turn of the century settlement is depicted through exhibits that paint the picture of pioneer life, as well as displays and artifacts about the history of oil and mineral production that helped shape the city into the metropolis that it is today.

The museum is made up of donated items from the community whose ancestors of Chiefs, oilmen, bankers, school teachers and smelt workers who make up the historical fabric of Bartlesville.

One of the more popular attractions of the museum, is the animated likeness of Frank Giggs, a pioneer photographer who spent decades documenting life in Bartlesville.

The museum also includes a gift shop, as well as Nelson One Room School, an educational exhibit to teach children about what school was like in the early 1900s.

The Bartlesville Area History Museum is open Mon. through Fri. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
