Barstow Harvey House 😎 California Route 66 #route66 #California
Hi, this is just a little walk around the Harvey House in Barstow California . They were closed because of you know what. They old railroad station is right off of Route 66 in Barstow California.
The Harvey House was an oasis of comfort and civilization along the railway routes of the Southwest. Fred Harvey, dismayed by the often crude facilities he had seen at railway stops, endeavored to provide clean and welcoming lunchrooms, restaurants, and hotels as alternatives. His name became synonymous with quality accommodations. Fred Harvey is also famous for recruiting the Harvey Girls: young, decent, hardworking women from around the country to serve as hostesses in his lunchrooms. Having created the first restaurant chain in the United States (even while part of the country was still territorial rather than actual states), Harvey needed staff who could keep to his high standards. So he advertised in the East for women 18 to 30, pleasant, competent, attractive, and willing to meet his expectations for civilized behavior. Besides their pay they would receive room and board. Thousands applied and the best were hired; for many of the young women, it was the first time they had left home.

Exploring Victorville, California: A Brief Overview
Victorville, a charming city located on the fringes of the Mojave Desert, stands at an elevation of 2,875 feet. This height gives it a distinct desert climate, with warm summers contrasted by chilly winters sometimes adorned with snow.
Historically, the renowned Route 66, known as the Main Street of America, coursed through Victorville, greatly influenced its growth in the mid-1800s. The city's proximity to significant transport links like highways and the railway turned it into a pivotal transportation and logistics center.
Victorville houses attractions like the Mojave Narrows Regional Park and Hesperia Lake Park, offering residents a plethora of recreational opportunities such as hiking, fishing, and camping. The California Route 66 museum, situated within the city, showcases the legendary highway's history and its impact on American society.
Over time, Victorville has witnessed substantial growth, becoming an appealing destination due to its relatively affordable housing compared to other Southern Californian locales. The Victorville Civic Center stands as the community's heartbeat, hosting City Hall and other essential governmental services.
The city boasts a culturally rich and diverse community, reflecting California's inclusive nature.

Free Overnight Parking at Peggy Sue’s 50’s Diner, Yermo, CA
Free overnight RV parking overnight parking near Barstow, California, available at the conveniently located Peggy Sues 50s Diner. Stopped at Peggy Sues Diner for lunch while exploring the Barstow area. Employees verified that overnight RV parking is absolutely allowed in their massive level parking lot. An outside seating area and dinosaur park is pet friendly. Both the inside and outside of the diner is upbeat and worth a stop. Verizon cellular service clocked in at 8.62 Mbps download speed and 10.6 Mbps upload speed. AT&T cellular service showed two bars LTE, but the internet was unusable at the time of our visit. This free overnight parking location along Interstate 15 is a keeper.
