Amieira do Tejo is a former Portuguese parish in the municipality of Nisa.
It had, in 1801, 857 inhabitants. It was called Alder until 1957.
The old settlement of Amieira, halfway between Belver and Nisa, was part of the so-called Tagus Line, a border defense line on the south bank of the Tagus River.
King D. Sancho II (1223-1248) made a significant donation of land to the Order of St. John of the Jerusalem Hospital. Villages of Alder, Belver and Crato.
The building of the castle is attributed to Prior D. Frei Álvaro Gonçalves Pereira, bastard son of the Prior of the Order of the Hospital in Portugal.
The only military episode in which the castle was involved occurred in 1440. Where the forces of Castile, which surrounded the Alder.
In the reign of D. João II (1481-1495) and D. Manuel I (1495-1521) would have served as a prison.
Ranked National Monument on November 10, 1922.

Junto à praia ergue-se a Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, construída no século XVII para assegurar a defesa da barra do rio Arade.
Com um vasto e espaçoso areal que se espraia por mais de 1 km, protegido por arribas de tons quentes e esteticamente recortadas, a Rocha é o local de férias eleito por cada vez mais veraneantes, sendo uma das praias mais conhecidas do país.
A praia possui uma rede de largos passadiços que percorrem praticamente todo o areal, ao longo dos quais se multiplicam os equipamentos de apoio aos utentes da praia, incluindo uma área desportiva.
Já na avenida que acompanha a frente de mar da Rocha, sucedem-se hotéis, bares, esplanadas, discotecas e um casino, culminando na marina de Portimão, diversificando a oferta turística e oferecendo muito colorido e animação à praia.
Dos miradouros altaneiros existentes nas extremas da praia, os Três Castelos a poente e a Fortaleza de St.ª Catarina de Ribamar, já na entrada da barra do Rio Arade, o visitante depara-se com uma fabulosa vista panorâmica sobre a linha de costa entre a Ponta João d´Arens e a Ponta do Altar.
Apesar da componente urbana e turística que caracteriza a envolvente da Rocha, a paisagem natural parece ainda sobrepor-se, tanto pela imponência como pela beleza.
