MEKONG RIVER TOUR IN BEN TRE
You can visit the Mekong River on a day trip from Saigon, but I wanted to spend more time in the Mekong Delta so I stayed two nights in Ben Tre.
You can explore the Mekong River on an organized tour but I wanted to go on my own, so I rented a motorboat for VND 250,000 per hour for three hours, which at the time comes out to about USD 32. We visited a brick factory and a coconut processing plant. We also rode a small canoe to explore the smaller channels of the river.
If you're traveling in a group, then I think renting a motorboat is the better option. You'll have the boat all to yourself and you can explore the Mekong River on your own time. Most people just do day trips from Ho Chi Minh City but if you have the time, then you may want to spend a night or two in Ben Tre.

When we arrive at My Tho, we will visit Vinh Trang pagoda – a national historical and cultural relic. The architecture of Vinh Trang Pagoda is a harmonious combination of Asian and European types of architecture.
Visitors will leisurely take boat ride along the river and appreciate the wonderful view of the stilt houses, fruit plantations and fishing villages along the river bank.
The boat will proceed to Tortoise islet – a beautiful natural spot, ideal for a short trek through some winding trails. We will have lunch in the orchard garden.

Here, we will experience cruising on a hand-rowed sampan under the shadow of the water coconut trees along natural canals. And we also enjoy seasonal fruit and honey tea and listen to the sound of Southern Vietnamese folk music performed by locals.
The next place we will visit is a family business which epitomizes the idyllic rural lifestyle. Here, we will have the chance to taste the delicious coconut candy, observe the pastoral life as you wander through the fruit plantation and village.

A 4K virtual walking tour of Ben Tre Market (CHỢ BẾN TRE - CỬA ĐÔNG) at night in Ben Tre, Vietnam. I usually stay around this area whenever I'm in Ben Tre as a lot of hotels are located here overlooking the Bến Tre River.
The tour starts at the lobby of the Diamond Stars Hotel Bến Tre. This is my first time staying at this fairly new hotel and as you can see from the lobby, it's one of the higher end ones with great amenities (though the wifi is sometimes spotty). The hotel is located right across the main market and once we get outside the lobby you'll see the Ben Tre Bridge lit up during the night.
We'll then walk through the street side marketplace where you'll see vendors typical in Asian countries selling fruits, meat, fish and other food as well as cheap clothes and housewares. People are able to buy what they need without getting off their motorcycle.
I then walked towards a pretty popular banh mi place where they serve pork hock banh mi. You'll see people waiting for their orders even thought it's already night time. After that, I headed towards Công viên An Hội where people usually hang out at night. The tour ends back at Ben Tre Bridge where you'll see an overview of the market, river and the hotels along the river.

Known by Vietnamese as the “Land of Coconut”, Ben Tre is one the best area to explore the untouched and natural landscapes of Mekong Delta and discover its local life, beautiful canals and traditional activities. An authentic and relaxing experience!
Depart from Saigon and head straight to Ben Tre (90 km ~ 2 hour drive). On arrival board a small boat to visit typical workplaces including small brick factories, a coconut processing workshop and a local mat-weaving house.
Stop at a quiet village, take a short walk to witness local life and hop on a xe-lôi (a kind of motorized rickshaw) to reach a nice riverside restaurant for a local lunch. After lunch, take a short cycling tour to explore the surrounding fields before boarding a sampan for a tranquil trip along the picturesque canals. Come back to the port and continue to visit Ben Tre Local Market before heading back to Saigon and return to Saigon.
