Hey guys, I am at Lepakshi temple in India, and I am gonna show you not just the mystery of the hanging pillar, but also show you exactly how it works. In this temple, you can see many people doing the same thing: Put a piece of cloth underneath and slide it around the other side, proving that the pillar is disconnected from the floor. This is considered one of the wonders of India, how did ancient people construct a huge pillar that defies gravity and is hanging in mid air?
These kind of mysteries always interest me, so I decided to visit the temple. Right from the start, I am fascinated by the carvings in this temple, like this cow for example, which shows multiple postures in the same sculpture. But that’s another video, so I end up at this hanging pillar which attracts thousands of tourists every day.
As you can see this is a huge block of granite around 20 feet tall, with brilliant carvings. Now, I just have to prove it to you that this pillar is disconnected from the floor. So, I ask this elderly couple who have come with a towel. Watch how they slide the towel on one side, and it goes all the way on the other side. This shows that ancient technology employed anti-gravity and levitation, because there is no way a 20 foot granite block which weighs many tons can hang in mid-air.
So, how does it actually work, and attract thousands of visitors every day? It works, because nobody is showing you the rest of the footage. We have dozens of videos of the this hanging pillar on YouTube, but nobody shows you what happens next: Here is what happens.
You can slide a piece of cloth through one end, but you cannot pull it out on the other end. If the pillar is completely disconnected from the floor, we should be able to pull the cloth on the other side. However, the cloth I slide is gonna get stuck in one of the corners. The pillar is not really hanging in mid air, because one of its corners is clearly resting on the floor, which is how it still stands. If you examine it closely, you can visually confirm this. The pillar does not employ anti-gravity or levitation.
So, did the ancient people create an imperfect pillar? Well it turns out that the British Government decided to do some repairs during pre-independence era, and attempted to remove the pillar. But they couldn’t, because it was fixed so perfectly, they could only dislodge it. They realized that removing this pillar is impossible, so they left it in this weird position. That is the true story behind this dislodged pillar. However, there is a bigger mystery in this temple, that needs to be decoded. Did Giants leave a footprint in this temple?

11:17 - Conclusion
Hey guys, I am in this fantastic temple at Lepakshi in India, and I am going to show you some solid evidence of giants this time. Did Giants exist a long time ago, and if they did, did they build these incredible structures at Lepakshi? Even though archeologists argue that this temple was built just 500 years ago, locals are convinced that this temple was built much earlier by gods of giant stature. Of course, there is this huge footprint in this temple, which could belong to a giant that stood around 25 to 35 feet, but we’ll get to this in a minute.
The best evidence is not this foot print found inside the temple, it is this giant bull carved 500 meters outside the temple of Lepakshi. The town of Lepakshi has the largest carving of the Indian Bull or Nandhi in the world. Made out of a single rock, this bull is exquisitely carved and stands nearly 15 feet tall and 27 feet long. Archeologists say this Bull was created just 500 years ago.
But there is something very strange about this bull, it stands alone. According to sacred Indian architecture, every bull must be associated with a lingam and vice versa. Ancient Indian texts confirm that the bull must be carved in front of a lingam. But as you can see, there is no lingam in front of it. Why would ancient builders carve the world’s largest bull and forget to put a lingam, which is the main god? Why did they create this brilliant monolithic carving and leave it alone? Archeologists don’t have the answer to this question, but locals do. The lingam associated with this bull is found 500 meters away, inside the temple walls. This gigantic lingam stands nearly 12 feet tall, and is protected by a 7 headed reptilian god known as Naga. This type of lingam is called Nagalingam and what you are seeing is the largest Nagalingam in the world. And if you look around this lingam, you see something interesting..there is no bull in front of it.
So, what is the purpose of carving a bull in front of a lingam? I have always argued that every sculpture in Indian temples was made for a reason, so how was the bull used? Ancient Vedic texts mention a way of worshiping the lingam, which is forgotten today. The ancient people put 2 fingers on the horns of the Nandhi, and viewed the lingam through it. Hindus strictly followed this routine until the last few centuries. This was the actual purpose of the bull. If you climb on this huge bull and look through these 2 horns, you can see the gigantic lingam, even today. Of course, this not only confirms that this bull belongs to this lingam, but something much more astounding. The race that created these carvings, must have been tall enough to view the lingam through these horns. Since the bull is 15 feet high, the ancient builders must have been around 30 feet tall.
Today, if you view through the horns, you will only see half the lingam, because the temple walls prevent you from seeing the rest of it. Why would the ancient builders create a wall, and a temple leaving the bull outside?
The lingam and the bull were built by a race of giants but the newer temple which is what we see today was built in the last 500 years. If you compare these 2 figures with the rest of the features, we can see a striking difference. The original builders used a monolithic architecture. Both these structures are not only much bigger than everything else, the lingam and the bull were also made out of single rocks.
The new architecture is quite different. Let’s take a look at these walls – huge slabs were cut and were interlocked, similar to Machu Picchu in Peru. Don’t get me wrong, this is also extraordinary technology, it is extremely difficult to fit these blocks together, look at the corners, but this was created just 500 years ago. The temple as we see it today, was built by assembling blocks of stone, but the original temple that existed here used single stone architecture.

Lepakshi - Weekend getaway from Bangalore - Steps Together
Located in the Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, Lepakshi makes a great destination for a day trip from Bangalore.
Lepakshi is at a distance of around 120km from Bangalore and
It takes nearly 2 hr to reach the place by car via Bangalore - Hyderabad highway
According to the Valmiki Ramayana, it is believed that this was the place where Rama had met the dying Jatayu and had helped him achieve salvation by uttering the words 'Le Pakshi' or “Rise, oh bird” in Telegu.
Before reaching the main temple at Lepakshi, you will be welcomed by a large monolithic Nandi. This Nandi statue in Lepakshi is made of a single granite stone and is said to be one of the largest monolithic statues in India.
It is 20 feet in height and 30 feet in length. It was built in 1583 by the rulers of the Vijayanagara empire. The Giant statue of Jatayu, built recently near the Nandi statue also attracts a lot of tourists.
Veerabhadra Swamy Temple of Lepakshi is just 500 m from the location of the Nandi statue.
The temple dates back to 1583 and was built by the brothers, Virupanna and Veeranna, who were initially in the service of the Vijayanagara kings.
However, another legend states that the temple was built by the sage Agastya. The temple was built on a small hillock which is in the shape of a tortoise and hence known as Kurma Saila. Temple’s main deity is Veerabhadra, the fiery god created by Shiva.
The sanctum also houses the shrines of lord shiva, Lord Vishnu, Ramalinga, Bhadrakali & Hanuman.
As soon as you enter the temple, Natyamantapa and Ardha Mantapa greet you with eye-catchy and artistically beautiful sculptures.
The Lepakshi temple also has the finest specimens of mural paintings of the Vijayanagar kings. The ceilings of the Natya and Ardha Mandapa are decorated with murals that depict scenes from the epics like the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and the Puranas. The Shiva-Parvathi wedding painting is most notable among the rest.
There are about 35 large pillars in the mandapa and the most interesting one is the Hanging pillar which is suspended a few inches above the floor and does not rest on the ground fully. It is said that the pillar is dispositioned a bit after a British engineer tried to move it in an unsuccessful attempt to uncover the secret of its support.
A massive 18 ft tall Monolithic Nagalinga attracts visitors with three coils and seven hoods. It provides shelter to a black granite Shivalingam.
A huge Ganesha present at the right side is carved out of the same boulder as Nagalinga.
The maroon spots on the wall behind nagalinga are said to be the marks left by the bleeding eyes of Virupanna.
According to the legend, the builder Virupanna was the treasurer of the Vijayanagar Empire who utilized the treasury’s money to build the temple during the king’s absence. When the King returned from his campaign, he found the treasury had been emptied by Virupanna, and he ordered that the treasurer be blinded. Angered by this command, Virupanna carried out his punishment himself. So the red blotches on the walls of the unfinished Kalyana Mandapa are nothing but his eyes!
Yet another prime attraction within the Veerabhadra Swamy Temple complex of Lepakshi is Kalyana Mantapa. Similar to the structure of the main temple mandapa, the Kalyana mandapa has a circular arrangement of pillars. It was built to perform the Wedding ceremony for Lord Shiva and Parvathi during the annual festivals of the temple. There are about 38 pillars in the mandapa carved out of granite stone that exhibit the carvings of several gods and saints. According to legend, the main architect Virupanna ran out of funds while trying to build & complete the Kalyana mandapa. Hence the structure stands unfinished.
There is a large open area beyond the Kalyana mandapa which was used for cultural and recreational activities during the Vijayanagar rule.
At one corner of the courtyard, there lies this big footprint impression.
Some believe that it is of Lord Hanuman's and others say it is of Sita's.
It is interesting to note that this imprint remains wet during all the season.
A series of pillars at the backside of Kalyana Mantapa has beautiful intricate designs carved on them. These carvings have also inspired the designs of famous Lepakshi Sarees
Beautiful intricate designs carved on the pillars behind Kalyana Mandapa
are said to be the inspiration for Lepakshi Saree designs
In the courtyard, you can also find giant pallets carved out of stone. Even though there is no relevant information regarding these, one can only guess that they might have been used as the place to serve the offerings to god during the Pooja ceremony.

Gummanayaka fort in Bagepalli
Gummanayakana fort is located around 135 Km from Bangalore near Bagepalli. It takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours to drive to this place from Bangalore if you take the Hyderabad highway. The fort is in a village called Vasanthapura. The base of the fort has some brick structures with artistic walls and windows. The base also has a couple of ruined temples. You can trek up the hill fort in 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on your fitness level. Overall, it is an easy trek. Midway to the top, there is an enclosure with a temple offering a great view of the fort entrance and base. On the peak, there are a few boulders arranged to form a tower-like structure. The fort walls have elevated platforms to walk and bastions which offer amazing views of the neighbouring region and hills. On the way to the fort complex, there are a couple of beautiful rectangular step wells. This is a good day trip from Bangalore if you like historical structures.

The GIANT FOOT PRINT in Indian temple||ye mandir ka raajkya hai??||the most mysterious temple||OMG||
Lepakshi is a small village located in the Anantapur District, in Andhra Pradesh, India. The famous Veerabhadra temple that dates back to 1583, and is dedicated to Veerabhadra, is located here. It was built by the brothers Viranna and Virupanna. And, this temple is one of the most notable examples of the Vijayanagar architectural style. Also, it is famous for its sculptures. These were created by the artisans of Vijayanagara empire. Also, it has idols of Ganesha, Nandi, Veerabhadra, Shiva, Bhadrakali, Vishnu and Lakshmi. A huge Nandi bull made out of a single granite stone is one of the major attractions near the main Lepakshi temple. And, the place is renowned for being one of the best repository of mural paintings of the Vijayanagar Kings. Many old Kannada inscriptions dating back centuries can be seen on its walls.
#FOOTPRINT #GIANT #
As soon as you step into the temple premise, it will start tracing an impact of its enriched cultural and ancient engineering marvel. It is a true splendid creation which compelled me to think about the master skill posed by the engineers, architects and whoever else were involved in creating this masterpiece. The whole Lepakshi temple is made of stones depicting our never vanishing traditional and cultural integrity. Various deity of God and Goddess have been carved out on the walls and pillars of the temple. You can see various sculptures all around in the temple, all made of stone and some are crafted on walls and pillars. Another attraction is roof painting speared all over on the roof of temple depicting glorious ancient Indian culture and traditions.
Moving further , after crossing the Kalyan Mandapa, you will arrive at a huge footprint in the temple floor. Almost as if someone stamped with strength on the floor. This footprint is believed to be of Goddess Sita. Interestingly, this footprint is always wet. You can see water from underneath constantly sipping and washing this foot. Although, the source of this water is unknown. Yet, it is believed that since it is the footstep of the divine Goddess, the water appears magically as a sign of respect to her. And you can try to dry or wipe out the water, it slowly seeps back into place. Interesting..huh!!
It is said that when Ravana was abducting Goddess Sita, and taking her to Sri Lanka, they stopped at this temple to rest for a while. That is believed to be the source of the footprint that is seen in the floor of the temple premises.

Overall it was a wonderful trip that we had. We went to Lepakshi temple without knowing much about the legends and the wonders of the place. So, I guess we loved the place even more than usual. Also, we loved the fact that it was not at all crowded here. And, it is indeed an offbeat destination very near to Bangalore that many don’t seem to know about. Overall, there were hardly one or two other souls visible here and there. Thus, giving us an experience of utter tranquility.

From near this pillar, you can step out in the courtyard of the temple. Now, you are in the backside of the main temple. From here, walk towards the right, and take a turn at the end towards right once more. You will soon witness a huge Shivling. But the Shivling is also hooded under a multiface snake (the naag). This is a unique Shivling. We haven’t witnessed any such Shivling in the rest of the country so far.
It is said the if this Kalyan Mantapa had been completed, Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati’s marriage would have happened here. It’s construction was started by the then King’s accountant while the king himself was on a trip. When the King came back, he was utterly furious with the accountant for having spent the kingdom’s money on this construction without the King’s knowledge or approval (I feel it was more of an ego clash that the king had). He immediately ordered the Kalyan Mandapa construction to be stopped. And so it remains incomplete, till date.
As you walk through the temple, you arrive at a pillar which does not rest on the ground fully. There are about 70 pillars at this fabulous 16th-century temple of stone in Vijayanagar style, but this one is the best known and a tribute to the engineering genius of ancient and medieval India’s temple builders. However, it is a bit dislodged from its original position. A paper or a thin piece of cloth can be passed from below the pillar and it comes out absolutely unhindered at the other end.
Legend 3 of Lepakshi Temple : It is said that during the British era, a British engineer tried to move it in an unsuccessful attempt to uncover the secret of its support. However, upon moving the pillar, the whole structure of the temple started shaking (due to the kind of balance with which the pillars are placed, you move one – you move all). The engineer was so petrified, he ran off for his life.
