Filip Kulisev strives to find and photograph the most wonderful and unique sites of our planet for the benefit of all nature lovers in Slovakia and around the world. Through his photographs he has raised awareness of issues related to biodiversity and natural resources.
Filip Kulisev, Master QEP, FBIPP has provided material for more than 200 individual exhibitions in Slovakia and around the world. He has been awarded various international certifications, including the Master QEP title, which is the highest European award for professional photographers. Kulisev became the first photographer from Central and Eastern Europe to be awarded the highest qualification and title of Fellow from the British Institute of Professional Photographers in London. He was also selected as European Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2012. He became European Professional Photographer of the year 2020 in the Drone category (FEP European Drone Golden Camera Award). Kulisev is the author of eleven exclusive monographs which present the beauty and uniqueness of our planet’s various natural wonders.
Filip Kulisev’s work and publications are part of the collections of honorable personalities around the world, including Pope Francis, His Royal Highness Prince Charles, His Serene Highness Prince of Monaco Albert II, UN secretary general António Guterres, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Slovak President Andrej Kiska, Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Uganda, French Polynesia, Kiribati and Palau. It was already expected that the Marshall Islands would be absolutely stunning (and it certainly is)... but it was unexpected how AMERICAN it feels here!
- They use U.S. dollars.
- They speak (American) English.
- They play basketball.
- They drink Bud Light.
- They use miles and Fahrenheit and feet.
I haven't been home in 6+ months and it is so amazing (and refreshing) to experience this home feeling in the middle of the Pacific Ocean - the Marshall Islands!

Bikini Atoll, The Marshall Islands
Lost somewhere in the ocean, this island looks like a paradise, doesn’t it? But Bikini Atoll was actually home to numerous nuclear testing programs that turned the picturesque island of Bikini into a radioactive wasteland. The inhabitants were forced to abandon their homes, and even today this remains hazardous for living organisms: the abnormally high level of radiation recorded here can cause cancer.
Between 1946 and 1958, 23 nuclear devices were detonated by the United States at seven test sites located on the reef, inside the atoll, in the air, or underwater.
In 1996, the Bikini Council authorized diving operations as a means to generate income for Bikini islanders currently and upon their eventual return. The tours, limited to fewer than a dozen experienced divers a week, cost more than US$5000 and include detailed histories of the nuclear tests.

This is the Reality of Traveling to Every Country
The reality of traveling to every country is that some weeks are a lot more video worthy than others. We're so grateful to be able to travel and always prefer to focus on the positive. But sometimes there are times where we'd love to do a fun experience (like a boat tour in the Marshall Islands), and something doesn't cooperate.
That's why we try to see travel as more of a marathon than a sprint. And to enjoy the journey of travel more than having high expectations for a particular experience.
Behind the scenes we are also working, grocery shopping, etc. Which in our case doesn't make for super thrilling content. (We also don't have many super rainy clips because we were trying to protect our camera and phones from the pouring rain.) So we thought about not making a voiceover video about the Marshall Islands, but figured maybe people would be interested in seeing some of these behind the scenes.
The Pacific Islands have been relatively a lot easier to travel than some of the countries in West and Central Africa that we spent time in last year. It's not nearly as physically demanding, but because a lot of the Pacific Islands are some of the least visited countries in the world, there are not always a lot of resources for travelers.
For example there are only a couple flights from country to country each week, you often have to book accommodations by email instead of online, wifi is often very limited, some countries like Tuvalu didn't even have accessible ATMs, etc. And we haven't seen American brands like these in grocery stores for a while, so we were laughing at ourselves about how excited we were about the idea of mac and cheese / instant mashed potatoes! Travel has made us appreciate so many little things we didn't even realize before!
Some more facts on the Marshall Islands - not only is it the third least visited country in the world, it's also one of the top 10 smallest countries in the world! It's where the word bikini came from (a really sad meaning). There are more than 1,000 islands in the Marshall Islands. And like some other Pacific Islands, it's across the international date line, meaning that it's almost a full day ahead of the US!
