අනුරාධපුරයේ වැඩිදුර සිදු කරන ලද කැණීම් වලදී මෙම පුරවරයේ පැවති ප්රාග් ඓතිහාසික ජනාවාසයන් පිළිබද තොරතුරු ලැබී ඇත. ක්රි.පූ 900 - 600 දක්වා විහිදුණ ප්රාග් ඓතිහාසික ලෝහ යුගයේදී ලෝහ තාක්ෂණය, කුඹල් කර්මාන්තය, අශ්වයන් භාවිතය, ගවයන් ඇති කිරීම සහ වී වගාවද පැවතුණ බව පෙනී යයි. ක්රි.පූ 700-600 අතර කාලෙය්දී අනුරාධපුරයේ ජනාවාසය හෙක්ටයාර් 50 ඉක්මවා වර්ධනය විය. නගරය ඊසාන දිගින් සහ වයඹ දිගින් පිහිටි ප්රධාන වරායයන් අතර උපායමාර්ගිකව වැදගත් වන පරිදි පිහිටියේය. වගා කළ හැකි සරු බිම් ඒ වටකොට පිහිටා තිබුණි. ආක්රමණිකයන්ගෙන් නගරය ආරක්ෂා කළ ස්වභාවික පවුරක් වූ ඝන වනාන්තරය නගරය හාත්පස අවුරා විය.පූර්ව ඓතිහාසික යුගය
ක්රි.පූ 500-250 අතර කාල පරාසයක විහිදුණ මෑත පූර්ව ඓතිහාසික යුගය වංශකතා ඇසුරින් අධ්යයනය කළ හැකිය. නගරද්වාර, වෙළෙඳපොළ ආදිය සහිතව නගරය ක්රමිකව සැලසුම් කරන ලද්දේ පණ්ඩුකාභය රාජ්ය සමයෙහිය. එසමයෙහි ආසියාවේ පැවති විශාලතම නගරයන්ගෙන් එකක් වූ එය ඒ වන විට වර්ග කිලෝ මීටරයක භුමි භාගයක් වසා සිටින්නට ඇතැයි සිතිය හැක
#anuradhapura (Sinhala: අනුරාධපුරය, #romanized : Anurādhapuraya; Tamil: அனுராதபுரம், romanized: Aṉurātapuram) is a major city located in north central plain of Sri #lanka . It is the #capital #city of #north #central #province and the capital of #anuradhapura #district . The city lies 205 #kilometers (127 mi) north of the current capital of Colombo in the North Central Province, on the #banks of the #historical Malwathu Oya. The city is now a World Heritage Site famous for its well-preserved ruins of the ancient #sinhalese #civilization .
#while Mahāvaṃsa #place the #founding of the city in 437 BCE, the site has been inhabited for #much longer, making it a major #human #settlements on the island for almost three millennia and one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Asia. It is the cradle of the Hydraulic Sinhalese civilization, Theravada Buddhism, and the longest-serving #ancient capital of Sri Lanka that has survived for 1500 years. Moreover, It was the first capital of the Sinhala #kingdom of Rajarata, following the kingdoms of Tambapanni and Upatissa #nuwara . Anuradhapura #wa also the center of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries and has been a major Buddhist pilgrimage site with ruins of many ancient Buddhist temples, including the famous Anuradhapura Maha Viharaya and the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest still-living, documented, planted tree in the world[1] and that is believed to have originally been a branch of the sacred fig tree at Bodh Gaya (Bihar, India), under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. These vast networks of ancient temples and monasteries now cover over 100 square kilometers (40 sq mi) of area of the city today.
The city was mostly destroyed and largely deserted after 993 CE, with the Cholar invasion from South India.[2] Although several attempts were made by later Sinhalese kings to return the capital to Anuradhapura, it was not reestablished as a major population center of the island until the #british #colonials era in the 19th century CE. The revival of the #current city began in earnest in the 1870s. The contemporary city, much of which was moved during the mid-20th century to preserve the site of the ancient capital, is a major road #junction of northern Sri Lanka and lies along a railway line. The city is the #headquarters of Sri Lanka's #archeological survey, and #tourism is a significant factor in its #economy

Sacred City of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka [Amazing Places 4K]
Anuradhapura was capital of Sri Lanka from the 4th century BCE until the end of the 10th century CE. It is UNESCO listed World Heritage site for its famous ruins and its place in the birth of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
