10 Things to do in Porto, Portugal Travel Guide Video Transcript: (OPORTO)
Lisbon is beautiful, but Porto is magical. We arrived in Porto with our taxi driver’s words still ringing in our ears, and we’re happy to say, the city did not disappoint!
Our time in Porto was spent sipping on Port wine, soaking in the views across the Douro River, wandering through the hilly streets, and marvelling at buildings covered in blue tiles.
In this travel guide, we’re going to share a little bit of Porto’s magic with you, and also show you some of the things you too can see, eat, and drink when you visit Porto!
Known as the Chapel of Souls, this church is covered in tiles that represent moments in the life of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine.
This bookstore is a feast for the eyes. The bookstore was even frequented by JK Rowling when she taught English in Porto, and it’s reported to have been an inspiration in her Harry Potter series.
We continued our walk downhill until we reached the São Bento Train Station.
Porto Cathedral is one of the oldest landmarks in the city with cloisters where the walls are covered in blue tiles.
We reached the neighbourhood of Ribeira, which sits right on the shores of the Douro River. This neighbourhood is lined with many sidewalk cafes, bars, and restaurants, so it’s a nice place to rest your legs and do a bit of people watching. Feeling hungry we wandered down some of the back streets until we found a small restaurant serving up local specialities.
We made time for one more attraction: the Church of Saint Francis.
The Bridge we had all been waiting for was Dom Luis the first Bridge, which spans the Douro River. The lower deck carries regular traffic with narrow walkways for those on foot, and the upper deck is reserved for pedestrians and the metro lines.
For the best views of Porto, you need to walk the upper deck!
There was only one thing on our minds: visit one of the many wineries that line this side of the river! We ended up walking into Croft for a wine tasting without need for an appointment, and this turned out to be one of our favourite activities in Porto!
Filled to the brim with port wine, cheese and chocolate, we enjoyed a light stroll along the Douro River, watching the boats bob in the water.
That’s a wrap for our visit to Porto! We hope you guys enjoyed following along and that you got a few ideas for your own trip. If you have any other suggestions of fun things to do in and around Porto, feel free to share those with travellers in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Portugal video series showcasing Portuguese food, Portuguese culture and Portuguese cuisine.

In The Mood for Alentejo: Part 3 | Exploring Estremoz, Elvas, Mouchão & Marvão | Travel in Portugal
Alentejo in Portugal is a spectacularly vast region that urges anyone with a love for bucolic sceneries and dramatic landscapes to come back over and over again. This time, we headed to Alto Alentejo, this Portuguese hinterland that shares a border with Spain, exploring the deeply historic Estremoz, the garrison town of Elvas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its mighty twin fortresses, and climbed the Serra de São Mamede (on the mountainous district of Portalegre) for the grand finale that is the ancient hilltop town of Marvão.
In between, we encountered two wonderful surprises -- a stay in Monte da Provença, this idyllic and rural farmhouse hotel just outside Elvas, and finally, a visit in Herdade do Mouchão, one of the oldest vineyards in Alentejo, with their heritage Alicante Bouschet wines that have surpassed renown.

As you can see, I truly enjoy Alentejo. There's just so much beauty in the region still left unexplored that I keep coming back here to create more videos.
This is the third part of The Alentejo Series, or dare I say The Alentejo Trilogy, and hopefully won't be the last.

MOST IMPORTANT CAMINO RELATED CHURCH - Portuguese COASTAL Route Video 4 - Antas to Viana do Castelo
Portuguese COASTAL Route Video 4 - IMPORTANT CAMINO RELATED CHURCH - Antas to Viana do Castelo
The cobblestone we encountered was minimal compared to the central route. From Porto to Tui it seemed like we had cobblestone daily on that central route and that’s one of the reasons we enjoyed the coastal route so much more. This was one of the few times we had cobblestone on the coastal route.
Viana do Costelo is one place that is worthy to spend some extra time and maybe even take a rest day here. There are MANY things to see and I would suggest your first stop to be the ancient pilgrim’s hospital that is now the tourist office. They have a small pamphlet in English that lists all the amazing things to see.
In April and May 2024 my wife and I walked the Portuguese Camino Central route and within two days we started walking the Portuguese Camino COASTAL route (we ran out of time for the spiritual variant at the end). On the coastal route we really tried to go slower to enjoy the experience. #caminodesantiago

Hello Amigos and Amigas in this beautiful day!🫡🇵🇹
In this episode, we’re in Oeiras, a beautiful town near Lisbon, where we visit simple, but amazing local spot called Dom Café. We had an delicious meal, trying some of the best traditional Portuguese dishes💯
First, we had Iscas de Cebolada, which is thinly sliced pork liver cooked with onions. It’s a classic dish that’s full of rich flavors. If you love trying authentic, home-style Portuguese cooking, this is a must-try.
We also enjoyed Entremeada, which is grilled pork belly. It’s simple but delicious, with the perfect amount of crispy fat that makes it super tasty.
Next, we tried Alheira de Mirandela, a unique Portuguese sausage(or not) from the northern region of Mirandela. Unlike most sausages(or not), this one is made with bread and a mix of meats, like chicken or game. It was created by Jewish communities in Portugal to avoid persecution, and today it’s a beloved part of Portuguese cuisine. We love it too!🤎
To pair with our meal, we had two iconic Portuguese wines. The first was Moscatel from Setúbal, a sweet, fortified wine that’s perfect with dessert or as an aperitif. Then, we tried some Port wine, a strong, sweet wine from the Douro Valley that’s famous worldwide🍷
The best part? The owner of Dom Café was incredibly kind and only charged us for the food, not the drinks or dessert. For everything, we paid just €20, which is an amazing deal considering the quality of the meal.
If you’re ever in Oeiras or looking to explore Portuguese cuisine, we highly recommend Dom Café for a local, authentic experience. Great food, friendly service, and a warm atmosphere. Definitely stop by if you’re in the area!
