HOW FAR EAST CAN YOU GET TO BY HITCHHIKING | 2032KM From Yakutsk to Magadan (Road of Bones)
I was always wondering what is the easternmost city you can get to by road on the Eurasian continent, and it turns out to be Magadan. I took my backpack and left my apartment in Yakutsk to see what is at the end of this road.

Life in the coldest region of Russia? Farming and village life in Yakutia
We would like to thank the leadership of the Ust-Aldan region and the Agency for Tourism Development and Territorial Marketing of Yakutia for their assistance in filming.
In the coldest place in Russia, Yakutia, people's daily lives pose a real challenge. Incredibly low temperatures, dropping to minus 60 degrees Celsius, pose special challenges and require special survival abilities.
Despite the harsh climate, several hundred thousand people live in Yakutia, most of whom live in villages. Housing in these settlements is built taking into account the climatic characteristics of the region - these are powerful wooden structures with good thermal insulation. Village members often have their own wood-burning stoves to ensure a comfortable temperature inside the home on cold winter days.
Due to the harsh winter climate, the residents of Yakutia have developed unique strategies to cope with everyday problems. One such strategy is to use heated toilets, which help avoid contact with icy surfaces. People in this area also practice winter sports such as hockey, skiing and sledding to stay physically active and healthy.
Agriculture is also an important part of daily life in the villages of Yakutia. Residents of Yakut villages are engaged in cultivating the land, growing vegetables and raising livestock. Most of the food consumed is produced by local residents themselves, which guarantees them access to fresh and high-quality food.
In addition to agriculture, residents of Yakutia are also engaged in fishing, berry picking and reindeer herding. Deer are important to the local population as their meat, hides and antlers are used in food, industrial and craft production.
However, life in Yakut villages is not always easy. Customs have limited access to public services such as health care and education, and often have to deal with having to travel long distances to get the care they need.
However, observing the daily life of the residents of Yakutia, one can see their incredible strength and endurance in overcoming the obstacles that they have to encounter here. They value and cherish their culture and traditions, support each other and find joy and satisfaction in simple but significant moments of their lives in the coldest place in Russia - Yakutia.
We are interested in learning how our ancestors lived, to study their traditions and to master ancient crafts and meals.

The village life of an elderly couple in a mountain village represents a unique rural life. These old men who live their lives on top of the mountain have experienced a lot and have become an iconic image of village life. They are an example of hard life in the mountains and show how people live in harsh conditions.
One of the features of the life of an old couple in a mountain village is traditional food and village cooking. They are prepared only from natural products collected around their village. This country food is full of flavor and organic, making it super delicious.
The rural inhabitants of the mountain village have been accustomed for many years to a harsh lifestyle that they have chosen themselves. In village life films we show how their daily life goes and how they try to maintain their traditional way of life.

Rivers of the World: Vilyuy
The Vilyuy River flows through Yakutia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. It is the longest tributary of the Lena and simultaneously the largest of its left tributaries.
The river has its source in the Vilyui plateau of the same name in the Central Siberian plateau. In its upper reaches, the river flows from north to south, but after its confluence with the Chona, which flows into the Vilyui almost towards it, the Vilyui sharply turns to the east and keeps its direction along one latitude to its mouth (north of Sangar), in one place bending to the south (Suntar Bend) in a large and steep bend.

ON OUR WAY TO THE COLDEST VILLAGE ON EARTH, OYMYAKON.
THE DISTANCE BETWEEN YAKUTSK AND OYMYAKON IS AROUND 1600 KILOMETERS OR ABOUT 33 HOURS OF DRIVING.
We travel about 10 hours to Khandyga from Yakutsk, crossing the central part of Yakutia and the Lena River, which flows directly into the Aldan River. The only way to get there in the winter is via the frozen Lena River, and success is dependent on the thickness of the ice on the Lena River.
We are using the UAZ car made from iron and is an off-road military light utility vehicle, it was used by Soviet and other Warsaw Pact armed forces, standard military versions included seating for seven personnel.
In Siberian, cars have to be left running, sometimes overnight, so the mechanics don’t freeze up. If did not keep cars running outside then they had to keep the car in a heated garage to avoid the car breaking down. If the vehicle is not left running, all liquids inside thicken, the rubber parts become brittle and fall apart, and freezes within minutes, some left their engine running from winter till spring.

Ferry at Lena River
Ferry full of vans and trucks crossing the Lena river in Siberia. City of Yakutsk in Yakutia. There is no bridge over this river of several kilometers of width.
Hotel Aldan
Hótel Aldan in Seyðisfjörður consists of three old but extensively renovated houses, two of which are located by the little pond in the heart of this quaint old town. Each house encompasses 9 rooms and a dining room as well. Aldan restaurant has also been renovated and has got a new name; Nordic and is now focusing even more on local Icelandic ingredients, mostly from the Eastern fjords.
The third one, dating from the late 19th. century, was used as banking premises for decades but has been renovated all while respecting traditional values. The house has 7 double romms and 2 triple rooms. Most rooms have space for additional bed and one room can accommodate a group of six. Flexible design makes it possible to combine some of the rooms to form a suite or family rooms for 4 to 6 persons.
The apartments are situated in a building that housed the first school in town only a minutes' walk from the main hotel building. As we are a small and active hotel we are unfortunately not able to block book our hotel during summer. We hope this will not affect our partnership and urge you please to contact us for further explanation if needed.
