📌Risalente all'VIII secolo, San
Salvatore era un potente monastero fondato sulla via Francigena, dai re longobardi e sostenuto dagli imperatori. Grazie alla posizione strategica, nel sud della Toscana e alla ricchezza del territorio sul Monte Amiata, l'abbazia divenne una delle più importanti del Centro Italia. La chiesa ha una straordinaria navata unica, un alto tetto in legno, un altare sopraelevato e una famosa enorme cripta con splendide colonne e capitelli.
📌Il monastero non esiste più, ma vicino c'è un grazioso borgo di Abbadia san salvatore celebre per le ex miniere di Mercurio. Merita una visita il museo delle miniere.

Dating back to the 8th century. San Salvatore was a powerful monastery founded on the Via Francigena, by the Longobard kings and supported by the emperors. Thanks to its strategic position in southern Tuscany and the richness of the territory on Monte Amiata, the abbey became one of the most important in Central Italy. The church has an amazing single nave, a high wooden roof, an altar altar and a famous crypt with beautiful columns and capitals.

Crypt of the Abbey of Saint Salvatore
Cripta dell'Abbazia di San Salvatore. The crypt, underground about 3 meters, has a rectangular floor plan oriented east-west, closed by a circular apse. The interior space is divided in three naves by four columns that work not only as support but also to cover the vaults of the space. These columns were built by laying in place small scraps of galestro together with layers of mortar, an ideal solution for achieving the curvature of the vaults and the small arches that crown the niches of the west wall.

This is the tenth video in a longer series. First, we visit Castello Banfi, the largest wine producer in Tuscany. We drive through a chestnut forest and stay for the night by an AgriCamper Italia host in the middle of nowhere. After driving under a lot of umbrella pines, we visit LaSelva, a huge organic farm before ending up on a camper site.
During 19 days we drove 2.830 kilometres through a good part of Italy. Mainly Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. We had been planning the trip for weeks and months, to be sure we could visit many of the best local producers of wine, pasta, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, cheese, hams, salamis and more. We want to see how it's made, taste it, and speak to the people behind the products. It was a fabulous journey with a lot of fantastic new knowledge for us. Sometimes we could stay at the producers' premises, sometimes we stayed by Agricamper Italia hosts or normal campsites.

Vetta Amiata, Abbadia S. Salvatore e Piancastagnaio - Agosto 2020, una gita vlog di una giornata
Arrivare sulla vetta per sfiorare le nuvole e gli dei, poi riscendere tra i comuni mortali, ecco cosa ho fatto in questo video.
Nonostante la pomposa descrizione, vi voglio riportare una mia gita nella Toscana.
Borghi, sentieri e tanto altro, sicuramente un luogo che va visto.
Il video è stato girato nel pieno rispetto nella normativa vigente, indossando la mascherina durante tutto il percorso, nelle chiese e andando ad assicurare il distanziamento sociale.
La mascherina è stata tenuta durante tutto il video, solo ad Abbadia è stata tolta in sicurezza, in un luogo dove eravamo soli.
La vetta Amiata si trova a 1734 s.l.m. e ha come caratteristica la Madonna degli Scouts, non presente nel video e la Croce, un vero colosso in ferro battuto, voluta per ricordare l'anno 1900, anno giubilare.
Scendendo ad Abbadia S. Salvatore, paesino molto carino, si deve assolutamente vedere il borgo medievale e la chiesa del Santo Salvatore, una chiesa Romanica molto bella e datata VIII secolo.
Un luogo per passare le vacanze estive in pace, relax e tranquillità tra escursioni e anche buona cucina.
Il piccolo borgo di Piancastagnaio, ultimo paese visitato in questa occasione, è un altro posto molto caratteristico e soprattutto, come si evince dal video, anche molto ventoso e soprattutto fresco. Il panorama non ha nulla da invidiare.
Lo stadio ospitava un palio molto sentito da queste parti, un vero e proprio derby!!
