Area: 18.584 km²
Population: 1.443.422 (2000)
The history of Sanlıurfa can be traced back around 9000 years and the atmosphere is one of living history, where traditional life, culture and even clothing is more akin to the Middle East with Turkish, Kurdish and Arabic all being spoken. Sanliurfa (often referred to as Urfa) is also a place of pilgrimage for many religions, containing what is thought to be the birthplace of the prophet Abraham. According to Jewish and Muslim scriptures, he was summonsed by god whilst living there.
The traditional and religious conservatism, combined with the ancient historical monuments, has also given it the name City of the Prophets and has made Urfa a unique place to visit. Away from the city, the ancient village and genuine living museum Harran with its famous bee-hive type houses, has been continuously inhabited for more than 6000 years.

Exploring The City Of Prophets & Gobekli Tepe // A Sanliurfa Vlog
Days 47 & 48 of our new life as full-time travelers // Recorded on October 23rd and 24th 2021
We really did our best to stay positive during our time in Urfa, but boy it was hard!
Now looking back, I really resent our hotel for ruining the experience of such a cool and historic city. I mean, we didn't sleep for 4 nights! We were basically forced out of our hotel room from 8-11pm every night because our door was literally blocked with people.
Anyways, we don't want to get into too many details here because we have already moved forward, but here are a couple of recommendations if you do go to Sanliurfa:
1. Learn your history beforehand! Read about the Prophets! It will make each sight so much more meaningful.
2. Don't stay at the hotel we stayed at (unless you are participating in the Sira nights every night)
3. We wrote an article on the blog with more details about Sanliurfa and all the sights in this video (plus some other ones):
Anyways, we hope you enjoy this Sanliurfa Vlog. We did our best to explore the City of Prophets, and we loved checking out the world's oldest temple (Gobekli Tepe). It sucks that we couldn't do a better job at capturing everything, but we did what we could!

STREET FOOD IN TÜRKİYE - In this video, I will take you on a street food adventure in remote TÜRKİYE where we will have an exotic Turkish breakfast and some of the best Turkish street food in Şanlıurfa.
Our Turkish street food tour in Şanlıurfa, TÜRKİYE, starts early in the morning by having an amazing Tirit soup.
As a second breakfast, we couldn't miss the exotic liver and kidney kebabs.
To continue our street food in TÜRKİYE, we went to a local restaurant inside the bazaar where we had some of the best lamb meat in Şanlıurfa.
After that, we went next door to have the famous Turkish ice cream with honey and pistachio. It was to die for.
After visiting the main Şanlıurfa attraction, Balıklıgöl, we decided to end our street food tour by going to a very special restaurant where they serve traditional Urfa food and other delicious specialties of TÜRKİYE.

Urfa is the city of prophets and perhaps the most interesting and historic city in Turkey’s southeastern region, It’s certain that Urfa dates back at least 3500 years.
I went to the old city, then Balıklıgöl (Sacred Fish Ponds), Hazreti Ibrahim Halilullah, the cave where the Prophet Abraham is said to be born, the Kazzaz Bazaar where you can see many traditional craftsmanship; Göbeklitepe (World's Earliest Temple, 11,000 years old), and finally up to the Urfa castle!

Our Mom's Final Request Burial Request in Şanlıurfa Türkiye 🇹🇷 Turkey
We spent the evening exploring the ancient Roman tombs of Sanliurfa Turkey. My mom decided that was one of the places she approves us to bury her. These tombs were honestly incredible and are a must see stop in Eastern Turkey. They were completely work the price of admission, which was FREE.

In this video I take you on a walk thru Turkey's largest museum the Şanlıurfa Museum of Archeology. We did this the same day as seeing Göbekli Tepe and Karahantepe which I showed it the last video. This museum is so extremely well laid out, and like every museum I have seen in Turkey is just beautiful. After the museum we had some Turkish coffee in the old town of Şanlıurfa. Then we finished the day off exploring the old Roman tombs in town.
