BURSA: The 10 Most UNMISSABLE Places | Bursa, Turkey Tour in 2023

BURSA: The 10 Most UNMISSABLE Places

In this video, I share what I feel are the top 10 most unmissable places you can visit in Bursa, Turkey. Whenever you decide to travel to Turkey and tour this famous Ottoman city in 2022 or beyond, you can use this video as a way to guide you during your trip.

Make sure you turn on your subtitles (CC) if you wish to watch and enjoy this video in the language of your choice.

Bursa became the first major capital city of the Ottoman Empire after they captured it from the Byzantines in 1326. You can sense their presence through the various sites that exist within this fascinating and captivating city.

Bursa city center on its own provides you with outstanding historical sites such as the grand mosque, known in Turkish as Ulu Cami. This is Bursa's largest mosque and it consists of 20 domes!

Near the Ulu Cami, you can visit Koza Han, which is Bursa's oldest bazaar. Nearby to this are some fascinating markets that will really excite someone looking to spend some money.

Now if you happen to find yourself walking on the streets of Tophane, you are in for a treat as you will be able to visit the Sultanate Gate & Citadel, which is a significant historical site.

You can also walk into the complex where you can go and visit the tombs of both Osman Ghazi and his son Orhan Ghazi, the first two Sultans of the Ottoman Empire.

In addition, you can eat at a 600-year-old restaurant opposite this complex, where you really get to eat some of the most delicious food you can find during your tour of Bursa and many celebrities visit it frequently due to its outstanding reputation.

If you are someone that is looking for more of an adventure or desire to explore a little bit away from Bursa City Centre, then you are in luck as you can see some incredible waterfalls by going to Suuçtu national park. Suuçtu Şelasi is a must see.

Moreover, Gölyazı & Ulubat Lake is a great combination of a village near a lake that provides immense serenity and some of the most magnificent sunsets you can ever imagine.

The cream of the crop in terms of adventure is hands down riding on the Bursa Teleferik i.e. cable car. By doing so, you will see outstanding spectacles of Bursa City.

If this was not enough, once you reach the end of the Teleferik journey going up, you end up on Uludağ Mountain. Uludag is an unmissable place for anyone visiting Bursa. Whether it is summer or winter, there are exciting activities available here for everyone all year round.

My personal favorite activity was to ski for the first time in my life and that too on my birthday! I have already made two travel vlogs of my trip to Uludag where I show what one can do in the summer and the winter and you can those out on my channel.

If skiing, snowboarding, and winter sports are not for you, even then I urge you to go up to Uludağ Mountain and experience other activities that are in accordance with your taste.

Speaking of Village, Cumalıkızık, which is an Ottoman Village and a Unesco world heritage site is a must-see when you travel to Bursa. The colored houses that many converted into shops and cafes, as well as the cobbled streets, will provide you with exquisite nostalgia.

Another key attraction that is a must-see for anyone that appreciates Ottoman history is to go to the Green Mosque, known in Turkish as Yeşil Cami and the Green Tomb. Here, you will see incredible architecture and the tomb of Sultan Mehmet I.

Ancient Nicea - Iznik, Turkey

Ancient Nicea - Iznik, Turkey

►Read the blog:

In this episode of the David's Been Here webshow, David Hoffmann takes us around to discover what to do in Iznik, Turkey. The city is home to the ancient city of Nicea, which was founded in the 4th century by the Macedonian King Antigonus I Monophthalmus. You've probably heard about it before in history class - this is where Emperor Constantine called the Great Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. It was a monumental meeting with over 300 bishops from across the ancient Christian world.

Nowadays, Iznik is a quaint town situated in northwestern Turkey along the shore of Lake Iznik. The ruins of Nicea are open to the public and easily accessible. Cars are even able to drive through the ancient gates.

Iznik is also known for its unique ceramics, specifically, its blue tiles. They are the reason why Istanbul's Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) got its name. The interior is decorated with over 20,000 handmade blue tiles made from the mud harvested from Iznik Lake. If you come to Iznik, you can purchase blue tiles at different art galleries or souvenir shops throughout town.

One of the things that David was told he had to do was dine at one of the restaurants along the lakeshore to sample some of the local fish and meze plates. Camlik Restaurant had a beautiful shaded terrace overlooking the lake and offered a wide range of specialties to try.

David ordered up some delicious meze plates and Camlik's famous fish kebabs, which were battered, fried, and served with fresh grilled veggies. Price per plate is about $9, which is pretty cheap considering the beautiful setting!

Another highlight of Iznik is the Ayasofya Musezi (Hagia Sofia Museum). It was an ancient Byzantine Church in ancient Nicea built sometime in the 6th century under the orders of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. It was modeled after the impressive Hagia Sofia in Constantinople (Istanbul). It was converted into a mosque after the invasion of the Ottoman Turks in 1337. It currently still functions as a mosque but several of the old Christian paintings and mosaics have been uncovered and are on display.

Quick Guide 16: Iznik Tiles

Quick Guide 16: Iznik Tiles

Nicaea was an important city of the Hellenistic and Roman Kingdom of Bithynia. In the Turkish period, the city was named as İznik and it became the largest tile production centre.

There were approximately 340 ateliers of tiles in İznik. When an Ottoman sultan wanted to build a new building, he sent a message to the governor of İznik. All the work was distributed to the ateliers. In the beginning of the 16th century, motifs on tiles had blue, dark blue and yellow colors on white background. In the second half of the century more motifs were used and color combination becomes more complex.

10 HISTORICAL PLACES TO SEE IN ISTANBUL AND THEIR STORIES Part 1

@elixirofhaplife
Istanbul is one city that has seen many civilizations, and this aspect is still very much alive. It was once the capital of the Byzantine Empire, which means that its history is rich with artefacts and relics from all over the world. Istanbul is also a great place to visit if you're looking to learn more about Turkey's past, especially because it's so close to Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey. Here are some historical places in Istanbul you should check out:
Hagia Sophia
The Hagia Sophia is an ancient church that was built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century. It was converted into a mosque in 1453, but has since been restored and turned into one of Istanbul's most famous attractions. Today it serves as both a museum and a mosque; some call it the most important architectural monument in the world.
Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Palace is a former royal residence in Istanbul, Turkey. It was the official residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (1459-1923), until it was turned into a museum.
Topkapi Palace was built by Mehmet II (the Conqueror) on the site where his father Bayezid I had built an imperial hunting lodge called Yavuz Sultan Selim Sarayı or Iznik Sarai. The palace complex covers over 500 acres and includes gardens, mosques and other structures such as baths or water cisterns.
The complex consists of four main parts: Topkapı Sarayı (Palace), Hagia Sophia (Mosque), Yerebatan Sarayı (Fortress) and Kurşunlu Mosque
Basilica Cistern
The cistern is a subterranean reservoir and was built by Justinian in the 6th century. It is located below Hagia Sophia, which was built on top of it. The cistern has 336 columns, each one made out of marble or granite. It was used as a water supply for the Great Palace, where Emperor Justinian lived during his reign as ruler of Byzantine Empire.
The cistern is now an important historical place where you can see its foundation and mosaics on display inside Hagia Sophia Museum next door (if you are lucky enough).
Maiden's Tower
Maiden's Tower is a historical place to see in Istanbul. It was built in the 7th century BC, and it has been used by many empires over time.
The Byzantines used it as a lighthouse, while the Ottomans used it as a prison for political prisoners. If you're looking for something different on your trip to Turkey, this may be an interesting stop!
The tower is located on an edge of Bosphorus that overlooks both sides of Istanbul—it's definitely worth checking out if you have time!
Sultanahmet Square
Sultanahmet Square is one of the most important places in Istanbul. It’s surrounded by some of the city’s most iconic structures, including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. The square also houses ornate cisterns (water storage tanks), which were used to store water for public use until recently when they were converted into museums housing artifacts from ancient times.
The area around Sultanahmet Square offers some great shopping options if you are looking to buy souvenirs or enjoy dinner out on your trip to Istanbul. There are plenty of restaurants that offer both traditional Turkish cuisine as well as international cuisine like Italian or Spanish cuisines — so if you want something different than what's offered at your hotel then this could be just what you need!
If you're interested in seeing some sights while exploring this part of town then make sure not only do we recommend visiting these historical landmarks but also make sure that they don't get too crowded because otherwise chances are good that it won't feel like much fun anymore once everything gets packed together like sardines!
Gulhane Park is located in the Sarayburnu neighborhood, and was built by Sultan Mahmud II in 1837. The park is named after his wife, whose name means “flower garden” in Turkish. It's also home to a statue of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk—the founder of modern Turkey and its first president—who lived nearby for most of his life before going on to win World War I at Gallipoli Peninsula and die on Macedonia's Mount Olympus at age 39.
The Historic Peninsula is a great place to see Istanbul's history. It was the centre of the city in Byzantine times, and it has many historical buildings built during this time. The area also has some museums that are worth visiting if you're interested in learning more about what life was like here hundreds of years ago.
