🇲🇽 FOREIGNER in CIUDAD OBREGÓN, Sonora | Is This RICH MEXICO? | AMAZING Coyotas & HOT DOGS!
🇲🇽 CIUDAD OBREGÓN, SONORA - Welcome to Episode 13 of my 2022 Mexico Travel series, this time once again coming from the northern Mexican state of Sonora, in the city, Ciudad Obregón! I’m a foreigner in Mexico originally from the UK and have been travelling full-time for 6 years, including traveling Mexico, I think 7 times now! I love northern states such as Sinaloa, Chihuahua, and Durango - they have just as much worth as Guanajuato and Jalisco - the same is true for Sonora!
Is this RICH Mexico? Sonora is supposedly the 5th wealthiest state in Mexico (depending on sources). In the last video we had a 4K Walkaround in downtown Ciudad Obregon, but this time we go further afield, exploring La Laguna del Nainari, the northern part of the city (hello Beverly Hills), the modernist Catedral Sagrado Corazon (Sacred Heart), Mercado Municipal, have some AMAZING Coyotas (like a cookie/empanada) filled with piloncillo, and yes, a HOT DOG (the best in Mexico) - the Mexican food (comida Mexicana) is NEXT-LEVEL including carne asada and more, as well as a famous Sonora drink, BACANORA (featured in future videos).
International tourism isn’t big in Ciudad Obregón. Why? Because of the whole, 'is Mexico safe?' garbage? Is it not deserving of attention just because it doesn’t have colonial history or architecture? What is ‘Mexican’ by definition? The answer isn’t as simple as you may think.
If you’re looking for things to do in Ciudad Obregón, if you’re planning a Mexico trip, thinking of becoming an expat or moving to Mexico, considering states other than the central ones should be something to think about!

🇲🇽 CÓCORIT & ESPERANZA, SONORA | Mexico's Most PEACEFUL Pueblitos? | Ciudad OBREGÓN | Mexico Travel
🇲🇽 CÓCORIT & ESPERANZA, SONORA - For Part 14 of my 2022 Mexico Travel Series we are still based in Ciudad Obregón in the state of Sonora in Northern Mexico, but this time we’re heading out of the town to one of the local Yaqui towns (an indigenous people in Mexico) called Cócocit as well as it’s neighbour, the pretty regular town of Esperanza. Are these two of Mexico’s most peaceful small towns? (pueblitos)
Cócocit has history in relation to the Yaqui, an indigenous group stretching all the way up to Arizona. They do a deer dance symbolising the relationship between nature and people. I went on a Monday afternoon (purposely) when it was extremely quiet, obviously going at the weekend would have been better if I had wanted to see people or go to the museum. Despite that, I cover some of the things to do in Cócorit.
We have some classic comida Mexicana (Mexican food) - Obispos, a cross between nieves and raspados. We also get a sense of what small towns in Mexico are like!
If you’re thinking of becoming an expat in Mexico or moving to Mexico, northern Mexico is an option! Don’t just think Guanajuato is your only option! Is Mexico safe? Is Mexico dangerous? Nowhere is safe!

Birding and Food in CDMX / Mexico City
In July, we stayed at a small hotel in Condesa in la Ciudad de México for good birds and food. We rented a car and set out to see as much of the city as we could in 8 days, with special focus on a few neighborhoods:
Condesa
Roma Norte
Centro de Coyoacán
Polanco
Tacubaya
Claveria
There was also a couple special trips worth the extra time to seek out - Museo Del Axolote in Álvaro Obregón to the south west, as well as Parcur Chapultepec, and Ex Fábrica MX in the north of the city to enjoy the street art.
Good birding stops throughout the trip were:
Parque Ecológico de la Ciudad de México, Tlalpan
Jardín Botánico del Instituto de Biología UNAM, Coyoacán [annually closed for first 3 weeks of July]
Bosque de Chapultepec
