PORTO, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Things To Do In & Around Porto
Porto is located in northwest Portugal along the Douro River and a must-visit travel destination. From its stunning old town to its authentic cuisine and romantic viewpoints, Porto has so much to offer. These are the best things to do in and around Porto:
10. Visit at least one of the many churches
The most beautiful ones include: Igreja dos Clérigos, São Francisco Church, Igreja do Carmo, and the Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto)
9. Admire the architecture at the Livraria Lello
The building dates back to 1906 and is often nicknamed the “most beautiful bookshop in the world” due to its blend of different architectural designs.
☑️ Book your skip the line ticket in advance:
8. Try the local food
Worth trying: tripas, bacalhau à brás, sardinhas, and francesinha
7. Walk the riverfront (Cais da Ribeira)
This is one of the liveliest parts of Porto, and a great place to walk, dine, and sightsee.
6. Go on a cruise of the 6 bridges
From the water, you can admire the beautiful landscapes and red-roofed buildings of Porto as well as Vila Nova de Gaia. All while learning about the historic bridges that connect both cities. Boat tours leave from the riverfront in Porto (Ribeira Quay) and last about 50 minutes.
☑️ Book your 6 bridges cruise:
5. Take in a view of the city
Best viewpoints: Miradouro da Vitória, the street next to the Porto cathedral, Passeio das Virtudes, Miradouro da Ribeira (for sunset), and from the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia.
4. Day trip to Peneda-Gerês National Park
Located near the Spanish border, the Peneda-Gerês national park is a 2 hour drive from Porto. It’s the oldest protected area and the only national park in Portugal, covering about 695 square kilometers.
☑️ Book a 4x4 day tour:
3. Day trip to the Douro wine valley
The Douro wine valley is where the famous port wine is produced and it’s known as the first demarcated wine region in the world. But besides its wines, this valley is also worth visiting for its incredible landscapes, nature, and history. We spent two days in Peso da Régua and enjoyed wine tasting, hiking, and learning all about the region.
☑️ Day cruise to the Douro wine valley:
2. Visit the wine cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia
While less idyllic, Vila Nova de Gaia is also known for its port wine. In fact, all the port wine produced in the upper Douro Valley would historically be transported here in barrels on traditional boats (rabelo boats). This is why the riverbanks of Porto today are filled with wine cellars and tasting rooms. Most wine cellars offer wine tastings and guided tours.
1. Free walking tour of the city
During a 2.5 hours guided tour, you’ll see the main highlights of the city, like São Bento train station, Café Majestic, Aliados avenue, and much more. But you’ll also get some recommendations to eat, go out, and have fun. This tour leaves a few times per day from the Liberty Square.

Porto has SO many amazing things you can do and is one of our favorite cities in Portugal. On this trip, we're only passing through Porto to the rest of Portugal. It got us wondering, how would we spend one day if we were on a budget? Get ready for some walking! We'll see some incredible azulejos (blue & white tiles), try the delicious Pastel da Nata, enter the Harry Potter bookstore, climb the Clerigos Tower (as a splurge option) and of course we'll try some Port. Yes, there's room in the budget for some port tasting!
The Casa da Guitarra has excellent Fado concerts most nights. They also have a wide selection of traditional stringed instruments and will be happy to tell you more about traditional music in Portugal. The guitarrista seen in the video is Alfredo Teixeira. He and his brother Serafim will be happy to help. Alfredo also builds Portuguese guitars by hand as a luthier.

Rotunda da Boavista, officially known as the Praça de Mouzinho de Albuquerque, is a large roundabout in Porto, Portugal. It honours Joaquim Augusto Mouzinho de Albuquerque, a Portuguese soldier who fought in Africa during the 19th century
A 45 m (148 ft) column in the middle of the rotunda (Monumento aos Heróis da Guerra Peninsular)[2] commemorates the victory of the Portuguese and the British against the French troops that invaded Portugal during the Peninsular War (1807–1814).[3] The column, slowly built between 1909 and 1951, is a project by the celebrated Porto architect José Marques da Silva and the sculptor Alves de Sousa.[4] The column is topped by a lion, the symbol of the joint Portuguese and British victory, which is bringing down the French imperial eagle.[3] Around the base are sculptures of soldiers and civilians, the latter representing the people of Porto caught up in disaster on 29 March 1809 when the bridge (the Ponte das Barcas, supported by twenty linked boats) they were crossing to flee from Napoleon's troops collapsed, and more than four thousand people drowned in the River Douro.

Road Trip from Lisbon to Porto - Vacation in Portugal June 2022
This road trip was part of our trip to Portugal that started from the south (Faro) and ended in the north (Porto).
From Lisbon and Sintra, we continued our travel to the northern part of Portugal. I very much enjoyed the coastal road through Cascais and Cabo da Roca. We also went to Peniche for little sightseeing and stopped in the beautiful mountain area village called Gondramaz.
There was a lot of stuff in between, but I reflected only some highlights in this video. On the way to Porto, we also stopped at Aveiro, a very beautiful coastal city. Have to say that the only thing that I would have done differently is the visit to Porto city. 2 days in Porto is just not enough. I will go back there for at least a week. Porto is super beautiful.
Gondramaz was a perfect place to get away from the city noise. We found a beautiful homestay called Mountain Whisper where we booked a whole house with 2 stories for 4 days. It was a great location to just relax and explore the area and visit the famous university city of Coimbra.
Peniche is a charming coastal town located in the west-central part of Portugal. Known for its beautiful beaches and rich cultural heritage, Peniche has become a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The town's history dates back to the Roman period, and visitors can still see some of the ancient ruins and monuments scattered throughout the area. The town's medieval fortress, which dates back to the 16th century, is a must-visit attraction for history enthusiasts. In addition to its historical significance, Peniche is also renowned for its fantastic seafood. The town's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean means that visitors can enjoy fresh seafood dishes that are both delicious and affordable. Some of the must-try dishes include grilled sardines, octopus, and fish stews.
Peniche is also famous for its world-class surfing. The town's unique location, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on all sides, means that it's the perfect spot for surfers of all skill levels. The town is home to some of the best surfing spots in Portugal, including the famous Supertubos Beach, which hosts the annual World Surf League competition. Visitors can take surfing lessons or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery and watch the expert surfers ride the waves. Overall, Peniche is an ideal destination for those looking for a mix of history, culture, delicious food, and thrilling outdoor activities.
Gondramaz is a small picturesque village located in the central region of Portugal. It is nestled in the foothills of the Serra da Lousã mountain range and is known for its stunning natural beauty. The village is made up of traditional stone houses and narrow streets that wind through the hills, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Gondramaz is also famous for its handicrafts, particularly its pottery. Visitors can watch local artisans at work, creating beautiful ceramics using traditional methods. The village also hosts an annual pottery fair, which attracts visitors from all over the region.
In addition to its handicrafts, Gondramaz is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The surrounding hills and mountains are home to numerous hiking trails, offering stunning views of the landscape. The village is also located near the Schist Villages, a collection of traditional villages that have been preserved and restored, providing visitors with a glimpse into the region's rich history and culture. Overall, Gondramaz is a charming and peaceful destination that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and outdoor adventure.
Coimbra is a historic city in central Portugal that was once the capital of the country. It is home to one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe, the University of Coimbra, which was founded in the 13th century. The city is rich in history and culture, and visitors can explore its winding streets and alleys, which are lined with beautiful old buildings and monuments. One of the city's most popular attractions is the Biblioteca Joanina, a stunning baroque library that dates back to the 18th century. The library's ornate ceilings, intricate carvings, and priceless collection of books make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history or architecture.
Coimbra is also known for its vibrant music scene. The city is the birthplace of Fado de Coimbra, a variation of the traditional Portuguese music style known as Fado. Fado de Coimbra is characterized by its use of guitars and its poetic lyrics, which often reflect the city's history and culture. Visitors can listen to live Fado performances at local cafes and restaurants, and the city also hosts an annual Fado festival. Overall, Coimbra is a fascinating destination that offers visitors a unique blend of history, culture, and music.

24 hours in Porto | Portugal Vlog
Welcome to my channel I’m Robbie Travels and today’s video is about my first 24 hours in Porto.
This is part 1 of my Porto and Portugal Vlog.
Portugal, formally the Portuguese Republic, is a nation in South Western Europe located on the Iberian Peninsula. It is the westernmost sovereign state in mainland Europe, surrounded on the west and south by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the north and east by Spain, which is the only country in Europe with a land boundary with Portugal. The Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, both independent territories with their own regional administrations, are also part of Portugal's territory. Portuguese is the official and national language. The capital and largest city of Portugal is Lisbon.
Porto is Portugal's second largest city and one of the most beautiful cities in Western Europe. Surrounded by the beautiful beaches that dot the Costa Verde shoreline, Porto is a preferred destination. The heart of Porto is designated by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and it's a must-see for any history buff. But it was the city's world-famous Port wine that placed it on the map! If you are visiting Portugal or the Iberian Peninsula, you must not miss the opportunity to see Porto.
▶️The places I have visited and activities I did in my first day in Portugal:
• 00:00 - Flying from Brussels airport to Porto.
• 01:39 - Meeting with a stranger on the plane (Pauline) and taking a taxi together to the city center.
• 03:40 - Arriving in Porto.

Street Art in Lisbon : Places and artists
If you like wandering through a town and getting lost looking for street art, Lisbon is a good candidate for your next trip.
The variety of work is simply incredible.
Between local and foreign artists, between superstars and less known artists, between political work, purely esthetic or documentary…
Between BLU’s frescoes denouncing greed and capitalism destruction, in bracket Bordello II’s collage also criticising consumption, pollution and a society of waste, passing by the pointillist sculpture by Vhils, Camila Watson’s portraits of the Elders in the working-class areas, Shepard Fairey’s propagandist works, AKA Corleone’s colourful frenzy, Aryz’ horsey skeletons...
Lisbon is an open-air museum however cliche that may sound.
In 2020, except in the hypercenter in Baixa, you can see works all over the city. Many can be seen in Barrio Alto, around LX Factory and in the Alcantara District, on the South Bank of Lisbon in Almada, in the former industrial districts in Marvila. A bit less in Alfama or Belem.
Considering the nature of street art, this repartition is bound to change…
We followed a tour organised by the aptly-named “Liston Street Art Tou”r in some of the districts with the most works: Martim Moniz, Mouraria, Graça…
The tour is pay-as-you-wish and paying 5 euros for more than 3 hours of discovery seems a minimum in my eyes.
If you enjoyed the stroll, give us a like or leave a comment. You can also subscribe to our channel.
Be curious and enjoy your stroll !

Porto | Ribeira | Portugal ???????? (Walking Tour 4K)
????????Please if you like, share and subscribe ????
▶️ Welcome to this walking tour of the Historic Center Sreets of Porto, this video was shot in April 2022.
The Douro bank below the Cathedral and Baixa is a mess of fascinating old houses, with the elderly inhabitants still inhabiting them. Here there is history, tradition and a unique landscape, the result of the cluster of colorful houses and the narrow streets overlooking the Douro River and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Ribeira is one of the oldest, sought after and typical places in the city and is part of the Historic Center of Porto, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of medieval origin, it has always been an area of great commerce and movement of people, due to the proximity of the river.
Today, Ribeira is full of lively cafes and restaurants, ready to welcome tourists passing through this part of old Porto. Rabelo boats (wooden sailing boats) are moored along the shore and there are splendid views across to Vila Nova de Gaia.
In Ribeira there is Praça da Ribeira. In the year 2000, a statue of Saint John the Baptist was inaugurated in this area, the popular saint celebrated in this city with a great festival, the Festa de São João do Porto. Closer to the Douro River, in the Ribeira quay area, the landscape of Vila Nova de Gaia is magnificent and it is a pleasant walk along the riverside.
There are plaques on the walls that tell some details of Ribeira's history. One describes the tragedy of the Ponte das Barcas in 1889, when a bridge with pontoons could not support the weight of people from Porto fleeing from Napoleon's army. Another scoreboard shows the last remaining wicket of the city's 14th-century wall. Ribeira's past is evident in its buildings and stones, and is even written on its walls.
In this area of the city lived one of the most outstanding and charismatic personalities of the city, the Duke of Ribeira, who became known for having saved several people from drowning. For this achievement, after his death, a tribute was paid to him. The square next to the pillar of the D. Luís Bridge received his name and a tombstone. (visitar-porto.com)
