September 10, 2019 - Vía Francigena Day 1: Lucca to Altopascio. It was a sunny day but the the walk was through city tracks besides paved road. There was rural track for a short time after Porcari.

Tall buildings with frescoes and colourful window boxes house boutiques and cafés at street level with accommodation above. The beautiful 18th century parish church with its bulbous dome is dedicated to St Ulrich, a former bishop. The town is named after him and he is featured on the coat of arms. This video is rappresenting most of the beautifull sensations we had making Francigena Way from Lucca to Siena. Francigena Way is an histotrical path that goes from Canterbury to Rome and was used by piligrims in medieval time. This part of the path is according to me the best because acrosses one of the most beautifull place of Italy Tuscany. Seeing the nature expecially in spring time you can easily immagine how most of our important artists are coming from this area. In this video you can see the first part with beutifull cities like Lucca and S Miniato Alto. In Lucca you see the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto a masterwork in Reinassance time of Jacopo della Quercia.
