Castello di Motta Saint' Anastasia |Sicily|

In this video, you'll see the Motta Castle locally known as Castello di Motta Saint' Anastasia. The castle is located in Motta Saint Anastasia in Sicily, Italy which is about 20-30 mins away from Catania International Airport.

The present castle was built around 1080 by the Normans on behalf of Roger I, King of Sicily. In 1091 it was granted to the Bishop of Catania. In 1250 it was taken from the Bishop by Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor. And in 1267 it went to the Capetian House of Anjou.

In 1408, the Baron of Motta; Sancho Ruiz de Lihori, imprisoned the Count of Modica; Bernardo Cabrera, in Motta Sant'Anastasia Castle. In 1455 the castle returned to the State and was granted to Ludovico de Perellos by Alfonso V of Aragon.

Motta, thanks to its favorable geographical position of dominion over the plain of Catania, was consolidated over the centuries by the continuous and repeated invasions that began from the period of Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse. It continued in its role during the Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Norman and finally the Swabian invasions. During the Norman period Motta played an important role in the defense of the city of Catania and the Simeto valley. It was Ruggero d'Altavilla, Count of Sicily, in the 11th century, who ordered the rebuilding of the ancient castle existing on the cliff of Motta. Its main function was that of a lookout post and first defense stronghold.

Hi
We are Pritha (Bibi), a doctor and Vikram (Babu), a corporate guy. We are from Incredible India, having spent most of our lives in the beautiful city of Kolkata, and have now made London our home.
We first met when we were seven years old (I) and have been inseparable since. Perhaps it is the desire for looking good and good living that have kept us bonded over the years. Whilst both of us share a deep love for fashion, Pritha is also an incurable makeup addict and Vikram is crazy about fitness. Pritha’s passion for aesthetics extend beyond fashion though, as she keeps on decorating and redecorating every physical space she can get her hands on! She is also the more organised half of us.
Pritha also suffers from wanderlust, which is convenient as Vikram works in the travel industry and enjoys driving.
In this channel we share our experiences and talk about things we hope you will find useful. We cover a range of topics here so whether you are someone who needs a helpful tutorial on wearing the Indian dhoti (men’s lower garment), or you are looking for Eurostar deals, this channel is for you.
Thank you for visiting and we hope we can convince you to subscribe ????

Taormina Sicily- Greek Amphitheater, Walk Around Town, & Dinner Out! A REAL WHITE LOTUS EXPERIENCE!

Part 2 of our first day in Taormina Sicily! We spent the afternoon seeing some of the ancient Greek & Roman ruins, including the Greek Amphitheatre.

We noticed the Star of David on the old City Hall and were told that at one there was a significant Jewish population in Sicily, including Taormina, but they were run out of town.

Curious for more information, I did a google search and found out that over 600 years ago 40% of Sicilians were Jewish. They prospered in business but suffered from discrimination.

On March 31, 1492 the King & Queen of the Spanish Empire (Ferdinand and Isabella) issued a decree that all Jews must leave the Spanish Kingdom (which Sicily was part of).

By 1493, 100,000 Jews living in Sicily either left or were baptized.

So that explains the Star of David found in the wall of City Hall in Taormina, and maybe why my Sicilian DNA test showed some genes related to the Jewish people!
