Travel Highlights: Netherlands 2014 Part 3 - Den Haag, Schiedam, Zaanse Schans and Cologne (Germany)
In early 2014 I spent three months in my second home, the Netherlands.
One of the great things about the Netherlands is its location in Europe. From any of the major centres like Rotterdam or Amsterdam you can get to anywhere else in Europe quickly and easily.
In this third and final video featuring footage from my trip you’ll see some of the Constitutional Festival in Den Haag, see how wooden shoes are made, a little behind the scenes look at tv show, Eigen Huis & Tuin (one of my guilty pleasures from Dutch television) and Cologne, one of my favourite cities in Germany.
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Rotterdam Noord (A13 exit Berkel & Rodenrijs)
This little drive takes us to an industrial area at the very Northern border of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
We start out driving South on the highway A13 near Delft South. After driving a couple of minutes we take exit 11 (Berkel & Rodenrijs). We take a right turn onto the N209 Matlingeweg, which we follow to the BP gasstation on the left. Then we take a left turn onto the Sevillaweg and another left turn to reach our destination at Innsbruckweg.
We get to see a Rotterdam industrial zone which has nothing to do with the harbours, which ofcourse made Rotterdam such a famous Dutch city. Quite rare, actually, and it's rather a small zone as well. Geographical the zone is very near Rotterdam Airport, but that's just the other way so we don't get to see that...
I hope you enjoy watching.

Discovering Utrecht: Domtorentjes, bishops and more! ????????
???? Subtitles available in English, Spanish and Dutch ????
If you really want to get to know the Netherlands more deeply, we recommend going to Utrecht, the capital of the province with the same name: Utrecht. It's located right in the center of the country and it also plays a very central role; culturally, historically, and logistically.
We start off our exploration at the Railway Museum (Spoorwegmuseum), since it's one of the oldest train stations of the Netherlands and played a major role in shaping the country. Later, we dive into the religious and political history of Utrecht. Ever heard of Pope Adrian VI? Apparently he had something to do with Luther and Erasmus of Rotterdam...
For the ones interested in local cuisine: we also try out one of the typical treats of Utrecht. Do we recommend this iconic chocolate to our viewers?

=============
The Hague officially The Hague is the capital of the province of South Holland and with 547,757 inhabitants (1 January 2021, source: CBS) the third largest municipality in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Although The Hague is not the capital of the Netherlands, that is Amsterdam, it is the residence (seat of government) and in many ways functions as the capital.
The city of The Hague arose in the Middle Ages around the Hofvijver and the Binnenhof, today the center of Dutch politics. The Dutch government and parliament are located in the city, and it is the residence of the royal family. Most embassies, all ministries and the Supreme Court are also located in The Hague. In addition, the city is home to various national and international courts, including the International Court of Justice in the Peace Palace and the International Criminal Court. Around 1900 it also hosted the two Hague peace conferences, where important international agreements on the law of war were concluded.
The Hague is the largest Dutch city on the North Sea and has a coastline of eleven kilometers. Due to its location on the North Sea, The Hague has been an international tourist destination since the 19th century. The city has two seaside resorts: Scheveningen and Kijkduin. In addition, there is a wide sandy beach with a row of dunes: extensive nature reserves. Scheveningen - formerly a fishing village - has a regional port. The city spawned an influential art movement in the 19th century, the Hague School, and is home to two internationally renowned art museums, the Mauritshuis and the Kunstmuseum Den Haag (for modern art).
Since 1 January 2015, The Hague and 22 other municipalities together form the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Area. The area covered by this partnership has a combined population of 2.3 million. This region in turn forms part of the Randstad, the highly urbanized conurbation in the west of the Netherlands.

A minute of near 200 km/h on the new NSi ICNG! (Near 125 m/ph) - Ride-along -
Other than recording the new trains departing the Central station of Rotterdam, I also decided to take a ride on the new trains of NSi and NSR. This was actually prior to recording them departing Rotterdam, as I took the IC Direct service from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, over the HSL Zuid!
Travelling between the two largest cities of The Netherlands while traveling with NS International, means you get to go over the Northern part of the Dutch HSL Zuid, ironically. This means traveling over a lot of conventional track as well, which does kinda slow down the whole process. Nonetheless after passing a temporary speed restriction on the HSL itself, we finally get to experience the full speed of the ICNG, for a portion of the journey, at the full 200 km/h, or at least very close to it.
So I decided to record a bit of it, when I noticed we really got up to speed in the 'Groene Hart Tunnel', rocketing out of it, and passing the predecessor of the ICNG, the TRAXX sandwich ICRm sets!
I hope you enjoy! ????

4K - LEIDEN City - the Netherlands 2019 #1
Welcome to my channel.
This is next video about LEIDEN.
Subscribe for more video's.
Leiden was formed on an artificial hill (today called the Burcht van Leiden) at the confluence of the rivers Oude and Nieuwe Rijn (Old and New Rhine). In the oldest reference to this, from circa 860, the settlement was called Leithon. The name is said to be from Germanic *leitha- canal [6] in dative pluralis, thus meaning at the canals. Canal is actually not the completely proper word. A leitha (later lede) was a human-modified natural river, partly natural, partly artificial.
Leiden has in the past erroneously been associated with the Roman outpost Lugdunum Batavorum. This particular castellum was thought to be located at the Burcht of Leiden, and the city's name was thought to be derived from the Latin name Lugdunum. However the castellum was in fact closer to the town of Katwijk, whereas the Roman settlement near modern-day Leiden was called Matilo.[7]
Windmill museum De Valk
The landlord of Leiden, situated in a stronghold on the hill (motte), was initially subject to the Bishop of Utrecht but around 1100 the burgraves became subject to the county of Holland. This county got its name in 1101 from a domain near the stronghold: Holtland or Holland.
Leiden was sacked in 1047 by Emperor Henry III. Early 13th century, Ada, Countess of Holland took refuge here when she was fighting in a civil war against her uncle, William I, Count of Holland. He besieged the stronghold and captured Ada.
Tell us what I need to film next time.
