What to do in Bourscheid?
Where to go in Bourscheid?
In the north-eastern part of Luxembourg, near the village of Bourscheid, you will encounter a breathtaking view: a gothic castle towering above the verdant forests, as in a fairytale scene.

Learn about the history, the current state, and the touristic opportunities of the Bourscheid Castle in the following paragraphs, provided by your most devoted European guide: Travel in Pink.

History of The Bourscheid Castle
The construction of the palace dates back to the year 1000 when it was erected on top of an even older building. There is archeological evidence that the initial structures on the site date as far back as Roman times.

Later on, the Bourscheid Castle was extended and reimbursed several times on different occasions. This happened mainly through the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries, which added outer walls, a courtyard, several additional towers, and artillery bastions to the building.

In the 20th century, the Bourscheid Castle became a listed cultural site and underwent extensive restoration works. Nowadays, it is available for the general public to enjoy the open-air remains or even rent some of the castle's spaces for private events.

The castle is not for sale but it is possible to rent The Bourscheid Castle for Private Gatherings
Personal occasions, enterprise gatherings, or whatever events can be booked and held in various sections of the Bourscheid Castle. The spaces available for booking include:
The lower open-air courtyard of the chateau;
The gothic cellar of the castle;
The Nicolas Leyder room on the ground floor;
The François Decker room on the first floor.
When renting those spaces, you can not only enjoy a vibrant atmosphere but also take advantage of different catering alternatives, finger foods, and nearby hotels to spend the night after the event.

Vianden Castle Luxembourg - Drone 4K UHD

The Castle Vianden in Luxembourg is a magnificent medieval castle that sits atop a hill overlooking the quaint town of Vianden. With its impressive towers, walls, and battlements, it is a sight to behold and a must-visit for anyone interested in European history and architecture.

The castle dates back to the 11th century when it was originally built as a fortified castle for the Counts of Vianden. Over the centuries, it underwent several expansions and renovations, with the most significant changes made in the 14th and 15th centuries when it was converted into a luxurious residence fit for nobility.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Castle Vianden is its unique blend of architectural styles. The castle's early medieval origins are evident in the Romanesque-style chapel and the donjon, or keep, which dates back to the 11th century. However, the castle's later additions, such as the Gothic-style windows and the Renaissance-style decorations, give it a more ornate and opulent appearance.

The Castle Vianden's rich history also includes famous residents, such as Count Henri de Vianden, who played a crucial role in the Crusades, and King William III of the Netherlands, who used the castle as a summer residence. Today, visitors can tour the castle's many rooms and see its impressive collections of furniture, tapestries, and artwork.

In addition to its historical significance, the Castle Vianden offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can walk along the castle's walls and take in the picturesque scenery of the town of Vianden and the nearby hills and forests.

Castle Vianden is an excellent destination for anyone interested in European history and architecture. Its unique blend of architectural styles, rich history, and stunning views make it a must-visit attraction in Luxembourg.

When you visit the castle and love to see more of the region & history form the Celts and the Romans, right through the medieval times to the renaissance, then be sure to consider: Trier, Aachen, Echternach, Mullerthal trail, Luxembourg city.

Castle of Turelbaach, Luxembourg, March 2024 [4K]

March 2024, Afternoon

Short forest walk to the Castle of Turelbaach. Construction of this building started in 1973 by the owner of the surrounding domain after his weekend chalet from the 1960s burned down. Over the years he added more and more rooms, towers and bridges, including a park with a fountain and sculptures, all done in a neoclassic style. After his death in 2007, his widow sold the domain to the commune of Mertzig in 2020. It got classified as a national cultural heritage in 2022 and the surrounding forest paths opened to the public.

It was built in four phases and completed in 1430 with the construction of the large complex with many turrets. The lords of Bourscheid, who then inhabited the castle, were among the most influential knightly families in the region.

Vianden Castle in Luxembourg 4K

This is a video of Vianden Castle in Luxembourg. The castle is one of the largest fortified castles west of the river the Rhine, and it is located in the North of the small country. In 2019, the castle of Vianden was listed by CNN as one of the 21 most beautiful castles in the world.

Set on top of a 310m hill, the castle dominates the town of Vianden. First historical mentions indicate that the castle was built in the 11th century. Up until the 17th century, it was regularly expanded, repaired or even completely changed to adapt and reflect the Gothic style.

In the early 19th century, the owner of the castle started demolishing the building and selling roof tiles, wooden panels, doors, and windows. It didn't take long before the castle turned into a ruin. Many years later, when someone else bought the property, restoration works started. In 1990, most of the restoration works were completed. Nowadays, the castle can be visited with a guided or unguided tour.

Fun fact: Each year in August a medieval festival is organized with dueling knights, troubadours, jugglers and artisans.

Bourglinster Castle
Château de Bourglinster

Bourglinster Castle (French: Château de Bourglinster) is located in the village of Bourglinster in central Luxembourg some 17 km (11 mi) to the east of Luxembourg City. Now housing a restaurant and facilities for business and cultural gatherings, the castle has a history stretching back to the 11th century.
History:
The castle was first mentioned in 1098 as belonging to St Symeon of Trier. At the time it had a residential keep, a chapel, and a wall. During the second half of the 14th century, the chapel was extended and a tower was added on the northern side. The lower castle with a moat and two defensive towers was built in the 15th century. Both castles were partly destroyed during the 16th-century wars (1542–1544) but were soon repaired and a Renaissance wing was added (1548).

Parts of the lower castle were again destroyed by the French in the 1680s. In the early 18th century, a Baroque façade was built at the far end of the courtyard. After the castle was acquired by the Luxembourg State in 1968, the buildings were fully restored and, in 1982, opened for exhibitions, concerts, meetings, and receptions.

What to do in Luxembourg?
Have you been planning to pay an #adventurous visit to #Luxembourg lately? You are not alone: Luxembourg has a lot to offer for everyone. Because here is where divine nature, vibrant history, and excellent tourist servicing blend together to create the ultimate travel experience.

Today, we tell you a bit more about one of the country's finest locations to mark as a must-see: The #Vianden #Castle. Welcome on board, and let's travel together - in Pink.

Vianden Castle: location and surroundings

The castle is located in Vianden: a commune in the Oesling region of north-eastern Luxembourg. It is actually one of the overall twelve communes that have the status of a separate town within the country.

Vianden is widely appreciated for its valuable historical monuments, making it one of Luxembourg's most prominent tourist centres. Along with the Church of the #Trinitarians, the Cross of Justice, and the Church of St Nicholas, the place has one central sightseeing destination that builds up the area's epic atmosphere: the Vianden Castle.

It stands about 300 metres above the town, providing a bird's eye view over Vianden and the river Our.

Vianden Castle: history and features

The Vianden Castle, known among the locals as Buerg Veianen, is one of the largest and most impressive fortified buildings west of the Rhine river. What's more - back in 2019, it was officially listed by CNN to be one of the 21 most beautiful castles in the whole world.

The feudal residence foundations were established on what's known to have been an ancient Roman fortlet and later a Carolingian refuge. Anyway, the first Count of Vianden was first historically mentioned at the end of the 11th century, and the Vianden Castle was fully completed later in the 14th century. That's right - its construction lasted for three entire centuries!

Its architecture is a unique blend of Romanesque and Gothic elements, enriched with Renaissance structures added later in the 17th century. The main building and its surroundings have a total length of 90 metres: 90 meters of beauty, splendor, and excellence that are currently yours to explore.
Chateau Vianden has been subject to extensive restoration work to become what it is today: one of Europe's finest places to visit.

The entrance area will welcome you with a modern and interactive visitor centre. After that, you will be offered to choose between a professionally guided tour or an automatic audio guide to take you through the marvels of the building.

Touring the castle is suitable for family and group visits, individuals, children, and seniors alike. It is offered in local and international languages such as French, English, German, and Luxembourgish.

The time you will need to see every corner of the Vianden Castle varies between 90 and 120 minutes, during which you will enjoy plenty of historical artifacts, brilliant architecture, and fantastic sightseeing bits from above the town.
