Cook Islands BEST KEPT SECRET PARADISE: Aitutaki

The Cook Islands are somewhat unknown in the South Pacific, but they have a secret tropical paradise known as Aitutaki. It has the most beautiful lagoon, crystal clear tropical water, and perfect sandy beaches.

If you can't afford to stay on the island, you can take a day excursion or day trip to Aitutaki and see things much more affordably. You'll have to fly in and out on the same day, but we thought it added to the adventure!

World’s Best Lagoon? Aitutaki Tour & Sunset Beach Dinner | Cook Islands Ep. 3 of 7

This is a gem of the Cook Islands - Aitutaki and it’s STUNNING lagoon! We’re on a lagoon tour with Bishops and in this vlog we get to… ???? Learn how to edit video with Dane — ⬇ More Below ⬇

Welcome back to the Cook Islands for episode 3 of 7 in this travel series. In this vlog we finally get to see what all the Aitutaki chat has been about, checking out the real highlight and top thing to do in Aitutaki, a lagoon tour into the turquoise waters.

Despite visiting the Cook Islands a few times we’ve always been told ‘unless you go to Aitutaki you really haven’t seen the Cook Islands’ — and after our time there, we can kinda see why people say it! Aitutaki is only small, but really shows how beautifully integrated the tourism and travel scene is with a local, traditional, Polynesian culture (which we’ll show more in the next vlog). But more than anything, its all about this lagoon and taking a lagoon tour to reach the outer motu’s and really see the beauty!

It’s easy to understand why Aitutaki is known as the ultimate honeymoon destination! Stay tuned, we've got 4 more Cook Islands vlogs to come as we make our way back to Rarotonga as well.

We were hosted by Cook Islands Tourism to assist in making this travel series in Aitutaki and Rarotonga, but as always we have full editorial control over what we film, what we say, and how we share the experience with you in these vlogs. There’s loads of incredible info about the Cook Islands here for your own holiday —

TRAVEL to AITUTAKI, Cook Islands - Welcome to Paradise (Vlog Part 2)

After an amazing few days hanging out in Rarotonga (check out our first episode) it was time to explore another part of the Cook Islands, and a spot that is known for having the most beautiful lagoon in the world, Aitutaki.

We jumped on an Aitutaki day tour from Rarotonga, flying across to the island and spending a few hours on a boat cruise, drinking coconuts, snorkelling with fish and wandering around One Foot Island, home to the bluest water we have ever seen.

For the last few days checking out the best things to do in the Cook Islands, we checked out the Highland Paradise Cultural Show, went snorkelling at Black Rock and tackled the legendary Raemaru Trek right before getting on our plane home.

Travelling to Cook Islands is a fantastic experience, and our trip was one of our favourites in recent years. We can't wait to return again one day.

Aitutaki Day Tour price is NZ$ 493 per person
Highland Paradise Tour price is NZ$ 110 per person

Disclaimer - We travelled to the Cook Islands as part of a media campaign with Cook Islands Tourism, and our flights were covered by Air New Zealand.

WORLDS BEST HONEYMOON LOCATION? Most beautiful lagoon in Aitutaki 4k!

Hey everyone Nick here from Skeyes our first serious video on Youtube! I wanted to share with you a great place I visted last year. Although it was not our honeymoon I would think that if you were to have a honeymoon this would be the place!

We visited this place last year on our 3 weeks journey through the South Pacific. It was the most beautiful and epic lagoon we have ever seen! Heaven in paradise...A tick off the bucketlist to have visited this place! Funny thing is that inside the lagoon there is actually a place called Honeymoon Island!

These shots were taken with my DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone and gives you a very nice introduction to this paradise in the South Pacific. Having visited Bora Bora, this sure does compete with that place although there is no mass tourism and the hotels are of course not as spectacular (still nice though!). Enjoy the video and if you enjoy please give a like and I hope to bring you more beautiful videos from my travels and photography :) Don't forget to subscribe! Thank you and see you soon!

Aitutaki Day Tour - Explore one of the most beautiful lagoons in the World

If you haven’t planned an overnight or longer stay then this is the way to experience the spectacular colours and beauty of a classic tropical South Pacific atoll.

The day starts with a free transfer from your Rarotonga accommodation and a 40 minute flight to Aitutaki. On descent, the stunning colours of the lagoon come into view and this is usually where everyone has their phone against the windows – capturing the magical landscape below.

On arrival at Aitutaki, the Day Tour takes a 45 minute tour of the island by “Les Truck” taking in views of inland plantations and the main villages. Then the highlight of the day. The renowned Vaka Cruise – six hours of cruising the magnificient blue lagoon aboard the Polynesian styled vaka Titi-ai-Tonga. Visit three (Moturakau, Akaiami, One Foot Island) small motu (islets) fringing the lagoon with time for snorkelling at each one. Experience the solitude of pristine white sand beaches and warm crystal clear water.

Highlights include the iconic One Foot Island (Tapuaetai) and Akaiami – where giant TEAL flying boats used to stopover for refuelling on the famous Coral Route between Fiji, Samoa and Tahiti.

After visiting the snorkelling spot, lunch is served on board. A delicious medley of barbecued pelagic fish steaks served with a variety of fresh salads and tropical fruit all sourced from local farmers. Lunch is accompanied by complimentary tea, coffee, and water, and a cash bar for wine, beer, champagne, and soft drinks is available.

The day ends with an arrival back in Rarotonga at 5.30pm and a free transfer back to your accommodation.
