I explore the city and the market in Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria, the country that doesn't exist.
Why Is Moldova Not Part of Romania?
Today, we’re tackling a question that is not so easy to answer satisfactorily. You would hardly find an online discussion of the question, why is Moldova not part of Romania, without sentimental arguments. Almost all that have attempted to discuss it assertively have received some backlash. We understand that emotions can get in the way of how this issue will be presented and received. Nevertheless, we can’t continue to shy away from it. No matter how sensitive the question is, we according to our standard shall tell you what we’ve found to be the unflavored truth without any biased leaning. Moldova and Romanian in Brief
Moldova is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe. It is officially called the Republic of Moldova. It is bordered by Romania to the west (please note that important fact). Its northern, eastern, and southern borders are shared with Ukraine. The state of Transnistria is on the country's eastern border with Ukraine. Chișinău is the capital and largest city of Moldova.
Moldova is the second poorest nation in Europe by GDP per capita. Much of its GDP is contributed by the service sector. Moldova has one of the lowest Human Development Indexes (HDIs) in Europe, ranking 76th in the world as of 2022. It is a member state of the UN, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Council of Europe (EUCO), and the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development among other international organizations.
Romania is a country located at the intersection of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. The country borders Bulgaria to the south and Ukraine to the north. Its western border is shared with Hungary while the southwestern is shared with Serbia. More instructive to this discussion is the fact that it shares its eastern border with Moldova while the Black Sea is at its southeast. Romania is the 12th-largest country in Europe and the 6th-most populous nation in the European Union. Bucharest is the capital and largest city in Romania. It currently enjoys full membership in the European Union (EU), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), European Council (EUCO), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Quintessentially European, but refreshingly unsullied by the onslaught of mass tourism, Ukraine and Moldova provide us with two of the continent’s surprisingly little-known gems.
Ukraine, with its blue lakes and green hills can boast no fewer than seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites including the historic centre of Lviv, the wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathians and the cathedrals and monastic architecture of Kiev. The second largest country on the European continent, it was the birthplace of Russian Orthodoxy and has lain at the heart of the social changes that have beset this region for centuries. With a cultural pedigree that can trace its origins back to Byzantium and the Renaissance, its traditions and food span eons of influences that are just waiting to be discovered.
Sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, Moldova is blessed with a climate that encourages year round tourism. Not an obvious destination for most tour operators, it is nonetheless blessed with some stunningly unspoiled charms. Its pride lies in its natural landscapes including Pădurea Domnească (the Royal Forest) and The Lower Prut (Prutul de Jos), but within this little slice of heaven you can also find ancient monasteries and historic forts, wineries that can justifiably hold their own with their French counterparts.

I went to the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, also known as Transnistria. I'd heard it was some sort of Soviet relic living in the past, but what I found surprised me. Don't believe everything you hear on the internet!

Moldova , officially the Republic of Moldova , is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe.
It is bordered by Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south.
Most of Moldovan territory was a part of the Principality of Moldavia from the 14th century until 1812, when it was ceded to the Russian Empire by the Ottoman Empire and became known as Bessarabia.
In 1856, southern Bessarabia was returned to Moldavia, which three years later united with Wallachia to form Romania, but Russian rule was restored over the whole of the region in 1878.
During the 1917 Russian Revolution, Bessarabia briefly became an autonomous state within the Russian Republic, known as the Moldavian Democratic Republic.
In February 1918, the Moldavian Democratic Republic declared independence and then integrated into Romania later that year following a vote of its assembly.
The decision was disputed by Soviet Russia, which in 1924 established, within the Ukrainian SSR, a Moldavian autonomous republic on partially Moldovan-inhabited territories to the east of Bessarabia.
On 27 August 1991, as the dissolution of the Soviet Union was underway, the Moldavian SSR declared independence and took the name Moldova.
The constitution of Moldova was adopted in 1994.
The strip of the Moldovan territory on the east bank of the Dniester has been under the de facto control of the breakaway government of Transnistria since 1990.
Due to a decrease in industrial and agricultural output following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the service sector has grown to dominate Moldova's economy and is over 60% of the nation's GDP.
It is the second poorest country in Europe by GDP per capita.
