For the last destination of our Balkan Road Trip we went to Slovenia. Now, I have been to this country 3 times already because I just love it. The Triglav National Park has so much to offer: beautiful scenery, amazing hikes, awesome boat excursions, ... Check out the video and let me know if YOU would like to go to Slovenia!
On day 1 we checked out the beautiful lake in Bohinj and in Bled. Afterwards we crossed the mountains to go to Trenta to check out the beautiful Soca valley, what an experience that was!
For day 2 we did the hike to the valley of the 7 lakes. It was a very intense hike but absolutely worth it!

The Triglav National Park begins on the northern edge of the triangular border of Slovenia, Italy and Austria in Kranjska Gora. This, the best known and most well equipped ski resort in Slovenia, is growing in popularity each year, including the summer months.The first mountain massifs of the Julian Alps reflect in the small Lake Jansa which lies just beyond Kranjska Gora en route to the Vrsic Pass. The high rising Slovenian Alps are one of the most little known yet most beautiful alpine regions in Europe, a mysterious, unspoiled landscape and the realm of the zlatorog, a goat with golden horns! In this natural paradise, Europe’s wildest and most romantic river is born, the Soca, the ‘emerald’ river. Geologically, the landscape of the Upper Soca is relatively young and rugged with deep cut valleys and few flat areas. Its characteristic appearance was formed by the action of a glacier and water erosion formed a valley. Near Bovec, the Koritnica Valley begins and ascends to Italy’s, Passo Del Predil. A tranquil valley end with wonderful views and a few small villages which are romantic in summer but that can be treacherous in winter. Each summer an historic steam train travels through the Triglav National Park and both the Baca and Soca Valleys to Nova Gorica, a wonderful journey on a slow train through a green and fertile landscape. Near Lake Bohinj is the park’s cultural landscape, an experiment that seems to be a success. The tranquil village of Stara Fuzina is situated on the gentle and sun blessed slopes of the Triglav Mountains where both agriculture and nature conservation are closely related and the farms have been preserved in all of their past glory. The Triglav National Park impresses with its beautiful, contrasting scenery, bare mountains, deep valleys, wild water, blossoming alpine flowers, high mountains as well as breathtaking waterfalls and glacial lakes. Truly a natural paradise in the heart of Europe!

You really need to come to Slovenia and see the Triglav National Park, one of many wonders this country has to offer.
After exploring the most famous part of the park- Lake Bled ( we started to discover other major spots of this huge beauty.
In this video we visited: the Vintgar Gorge, the Lake Jasna, the Russian Chapel, the Soca River, the Slap Virje and the trail to the Kozjak Waterfall.
What we didn't had the time to visit: Bohini Lake and Pericnik Waterfall.

Lake Bohinj, Slovenia | Ribčev Laz | Triglav National Park
Lake Bohinj is nestled in the beautiful nature of the Julian Alps, located within the Triglav National Park. It is the largest lake in Slovenia, that is just 30 minutes by car from the much more famous Lake Bled. The Lake is popular as a holiday destination due to its peace and quiet, and the myriad of opportunities for visitors to interact with the pristine surroundings. The perfect destination for relaxing, sunbathing and swimming, but above all for practicing any water activity such as fishing, rowing, diving and sailing in a kayak or canoe. The lake surroundings also offers a series of hiking trails, allowing you to explore the entire perimeter of the lake.
There are three villages within walking distance of the lake. Ribčev Laz is the gateway to Bohinj Lake, and is the first village you meet as you arrive. The village dates back to the 13th century when it was founded by the German settlers but today it is a vibrant place, popular among tourists. That’s also where you will find numerous accommodation and dining options, making Ribcev Laz a perfect base to discover Lake Bohinj and its surroundings. The village has everything you need for your stay – a supermarket, restaurants, post office, atm, and a tourist office. The main attraction of the village is the stone built bridge with the outstanding cultural and historical monument of medieval architecture – the Church of Saint John the Baptist from 12. century.
As you can see, Lake Bohinj is a truly spectacular place that is so easy to fall in love with. No matter if you spend here a few hours or a few days, you will not be disappointed as this is a true gem of Slovenia and Europe.

Mount Triglav Hiking Guide
If you love hiking and are in Slovenia, you probably heard of Mt. Triglav, the highest Slovenian mountain.
This is a 2-day hike and the easiest way to approach it is from Pokljuka plateau.
Important; you have to be in a good physical shape and have no fear of heights.
Best time: July, August, or September because of the weather. Avoid hiking to Triglav on the weekend, as it’s very crowded.
Before the climb, do those;
1 check weather
Always check the weather report. IT might look ok but you are going way up to the mountains. The weather up there changes fast!
2 call the huts for sleeping availability
Summer months are the busiest months for call ahead and book your bed. There were cases when none of the closest huts (Kredarica, Planika, Dolic) had availability, the weather was too bad to descend so people were sleeping on benches and stairs.

3 Have appropriate gear!
Climbing mt. Triglav requires a proper hiking gear. Poles, helmet and shoes. Running shoes are not ok for going up the mountain. If you have them also wear a headlamp and Ferrata kit. Don’t forget about the sunscreen!
4. Bring water, food, and change of clothes
There will be no huts for you to get a meal or water. Only right before the top (which can take from 5-8 hours to reach). There is no running water in the huts. They only sell bottled water from 4,5€ up! Also, bring a windproof and rainproof jacket. The weather is changing extremely fast in the mountains.
5. ID and cash (or card)
You will have to present an ID in a Mountain hut. Stay on the safe side and bring Cash for paying (accommodation and food). Most of the huts don’t accept credit cards.
6. Download a map of the area
Way to Triglav is pretty well marked but still, download a map on your phone so it will be available offline. Only a handful of mobile operators have a reception.
7. Carry a basic first-aid kit and save 112 on your phone
Accidents happen so be prepared. Take band-aids, antibacterial cream, and ointments for minor cuts and scrapes. You never know when you’re going to need it and you can’t always get it when you travel. 112 is an emergency phone number in Slovenia.

Slovenia's Secret Lake | Triglav National Park Lake Bohinj + Lake Bled
We were surprised to know that Lake Bled is not the only beautiful lake in the Julian Alps region. The Triglav National Park is also home to Lake Bohinj, the biggest lake in Slovenia.
We visit the stunning lake Bled with Endless Adventure and tried the famous Bled cake at Bled Castle and it is up there with the best deserts, well worth the entrance fee to eat this delicacy.

We are an English travelling couple who met in Thailand, got engaged in Czech Republic and have continued to travel the world together ever since!
Our most recent challenge was leaving the UK with just £500 between us and the aim to create a sustainable travel lifestyle!
We work online and aim to spread the message of “Earn Less, Live More”, which encourages people to question their definition of success, and to pursue what makes them truly happy instead of chasing only money.
Creating this location independent lifestyle has helped us through depression and given us an incredible opportunity to make our lives more fulfilling. We want others to do the same and join us on this full time travel and digital nomad journey!
SLOVENIA | Hiking in the Julian Alps: Tolmin Gorge & Slap Kozjak
Welcome back to another Slovenia vlog! Today we are exploring the beauty of the Julian Alps!
In this video we take 2 short hikes in Triglav National Park.
First, we did a short 3.5km hike to one of Slovenia's most stunning waterfalls. This short hike is called Slap Kozjak. The hike is right outside of Kobarid and is part of the Kobarid Historic Trail that highlights all the major sites in the area. You could consider hiking the historic trail if you wanted something longer!
The next day we hiked the Tolmin Gorge, also known as Tolminska Korita. It is a gorgeous natural wonder and one of the most popular attractions in the Soča Valley area. This hike should take you no more than 1.5 hours to see all the viewpoints. This hike was a highlight of our time in Slovenia, although we enjoyed every moment we spent in this beautiful country!

Slovenia-Trekking In Triglav National Park
August, 2023. The highlight of our trip through Slovenia was a five day trek in Triglav National Park. We summited Mt. Triglav on day two, and spent the rest of the trek hiking through the incredible mountains and staying at picturesque huts along the way. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and we really feel the Julian Alps is now one of our favorite hiking destinations.
