We Tried Egypt Street Food | Must Eat Local Dishes in Cairo

Trying Egyptian Food in Cairo - it's our second day here in Cairo, Egypt and we thought we would head on out to try some of the local Egyptian and Middle Eastern Food.

To get our pallet ready we tried Ma'An Sulta (Salad water), before getting some prickly fruit from a street food cart. We then headed to Felfela, a famous restaurant here in Cairo to have some Turkish coffee, Shorbet 'ads (lentil soup), baba ganoush (eggplant dip), ful, besara and Betinjan Maqli.

On the way to our next restaurant we tried arabic coffee for the first time, hibiscus juice as well as some white Egyptian Sobia drink before trying some home cooked Bamya.

Before we tried the most famus Egyptian dish, we had some Baskote Yansoon as we made our way towards the end of downtown to try Koshari...I am not sure how we had space for desert but managed to squeeze in Konafa, Basbousa and more...we are officially full!

Cairo, Egypt - Day two in Egypt and I’m ready to stuff my face with Egyptian Food! Inspired by last night’s dinner at El Prince Restaurant I can’t wait to dive deeper into Egyptian cuisine with local friends, and inevitably, learn a lot more about Egyptian culture in the process...

We start with a traditional Egyptian Breakfast at Ful Waheed in the Ramses neighborhood of Cairo, Egypt. Ful is stewed fava beans with tahini, cumin, chili powder, and other spices topped with a generous amount of oil and the option of raw hot peppers and red onions. Served with a ton of veggies, tahini, chips, and Ful Waheed’s famous Shrimp Fries.

Next up, we walk through Cairo’s largest market and most famous bazaar; Khan el-Khalili. This is definitely one of the best things to do in Cairo. We stop for tea at El Fishawi Cafe before lunch.

For an Egyptian Street Food lunch, we go to Koshary Abo Tarek in Cairo for Egypt’s National Dish - Koshary. A blue collar dish that has rice, pasta, lentils, chickpeas (hummus), fried onions, and topped with a seasoned tomato sauce. Koshary (or Kushari or Koshari) is a hearty bowl of carbs that would be enough to eat for a day by itself… we press on!

For a quick mid-day Egyptian street food desert, El Karnak in Cairo serves Combella, an Egyptian food classic that is a delicious combination of rice pudding, Kunafa, Basbousa, mango and strawberry juice, homemade cream, and fresh fruit.

One more tea break at Mohamed Salad Coffee Shop in downtown Cairo, Egypt and then it’s time for dinner at one of the best restaurants in Cairo or Giza.

Hawawshi El Rabea in Imbaba Giza is said to be the best restaurant in Egypt for this traditional Egyptian street food.

Hawawshi is thin, seasoned beef patties wrapped in traditional Egyptian bread and grilled on a flattop. It is served with tahini and vegetables.

The coolest thing about this spot is that they actually own the butcher shop right across the street as well to ensure the freshest, best quality meat in their Hawashi. And the owner Wael Rabe, is meticulous about his craft. (sound bite)

On top of the flying meat patties, they also feature other signature dishes like Molokhia, roasted meat and potatoes, Macaroni with tomato sauce and meat and Kebda, garlic and seasoned Liver with hot peppers, lemon, and bell peppers all grilled up on the flattop.

Of course, we’ll try them all, but no doubt Hawawshi is the star of the show here.

I hope you all loved this Egyptian Street Food Vlog from here in Cairo, Egypt as much as we did making it! ❤️ If so, please hit that ???? button, and leave a comment!

See ya next week!

EGYPT STREET FOOD VLOG | Best Local Egyptian Dishes you must try in Cairo, Egypt

Tried the Best of Local Egyptian Food in Cairo. On our last day in Cairo, we decided to try the most famous dishes of Egypt. Though our time and capacity to eat was limited, still we tried to eat and vlog the 3 most important meals of the day. Luckily for us, everything was available in Downton Area, 500 metres around our Hotel at Talat Harb Square.

We started our day with a heavy and super affordable breakfast at Felfela Takeways, with Ful, Falafel and Chicken Shawarma. Post which grabbed the most authentic orange juice of my life; then went for shopping at Khan-el-Khalili.

On coming back, for lunch we went to the very famous Felfela Restaurant (a branch of the Breakfast Joint), and had Baba Ganoush, Lentil Soup, Rice & Daud Pasha. On way back to the Hotel had our first Egyptian Coffee.

Had the best sleep, and by evening we were almost full. But we had to try two of the most famous options for dinner in Cairo and show you. So we first headed to Al Gumreiha for the very famous Hamam Mahshi (Stuffed Pigeon). By the time we finished the pigeon, he hardly had any space left in our stomach, still somehow reached Abou Tarek for the famous vegetarian comfort dish preferred by all Egyptian and tourists - Koshari. And by far, it was the best Vegetarian Thing I had ever tasted. We finished our food spree by squeezing in the delicious rice pudding from the same place.

It was more than enough for a single day. Though we also wanted to show other dishes like Feetera, Konafa and more, but our stomach surrendered. So these are the most famous Egyptian Dishes you can try while in Cairo. Its also available in other parts of Egypt, but Downtown Cairo is the best because you find everything there.

Egyptian STREET FOOD In Cairo!

We tried Egyptian STREET FOOD in Cairo. From koshary, hawawshi and even really delicious Egyptian sweet pie, to an all out Egyptian feast where we ordered (much) more than we could handle. The street food in Cairo is excellent and there are sooo many options. Prices for street food are also exceptionally low, especially for the portion sizes that you get (warning: they are huge). For just a few dollars, you can eat all the Egyptian street food you could finish in a day. Cairo really surprised us as a foodie destination and we're already looking forward to the day we return to Cairo to eat more delicious local food.

We hope you enjoyed this Cairo street food tour in Egypt, with way too much food. We can't wait to show you more of egypt :) NEXT UP: first class sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan (13 hours). Ultimate Egypt Food Tour ???????? (i ate camel ????)

I ate camel meat in Egypt and here's why... ???????? - I'll talk about my journey to Egypt and my experience eating camel meat. I understand that this would seem like an unusual food decision to some of you, but I wanted to get a true taste of the local way of life. Camel meat has long been a staple of Egyptian cuisine and is regarded as a delicacy there. I so made the decision to test it, and I was pleasantly pleased by how tasty it was!

Top 12 Traditional Egyptian Dishes

Many travelers' bucket lists are likely to include Egypt. Aside from the country's historic history, beautiful beaches, and scuba diving, traditional Egyptian cuisine is another reason to visit.
Egypt's cuisine is what it is now because of its ancient past, with each culture putting its stamp on the creation of foods.

Gathering and celebrating with family and friends - over excellent food, of course – is an important aspect of Egyptian culture, as it is in numerous Middle Eastern countries.

From breakfast to dessert, here are some top classic Egyptian culinary favorites that every visitor should taste at least once when visiting this beautiful nation.
