Visit San Marino - 5 Things You Will Love & Hate about San Marino

Visiting San Marino the Micronation within Italy's borders is one of the fun things to do while visiting the resort city of Rimini on the Italian coast. There is much for a tourist or traveler to love about visiting San Marino and a few things that might annoy them.
Here are our 5 Things You Will Love & Hate about Visiting San Marino.
Filmed in San Marino
Copyright Mark Wolters 2016
The Hates of San Marino
1. The vomit inducing drive up to San Marino (getting there can be a bit of a challenge if you are in Italian cities like Rome).
2. The Hordes of day trippers from Rimini during the summer.
3. The uphill hikes. Its in the mountains/foothills and you will be walking them... a lot. So be prepared.
4. Tourist city = tourist service.
5. The Cheesy historic shops that just sell guns and crossbows.

The Loves of Visiting San Marino
#1. The views of the countryside. It is truly amazing.
#2. The fortresses and walls around the city.
#3. The Silly Tourist Museums like the museum of torture and wax museum.
#4. The amazing places to visit around San Marino, like Rimini and Ravenna.
#5. You have the city to yourself at night when the tourists leave.

SAN MARINO travel tips - facts and guide to this tiny and amazing country!

Read More:

San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world and the least visited in Europe but here are some interesting facts and regions to visit this republic!

For such a minuscule country, San Marino provides a fascinating collection of unique facts, outstanding views and an impressive history. Given its size though, many people opt to take just a day trip to San Marino from one of it’s neighbouring Italian cities and not spend a night or more getting to know it.

As the fifth smallest country in the world, and surrounded by Italy, it’s easy to see how San Marino could merely be a novelty country tick while travelling around the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. But I for one think that this micro-state deserves at least one night of your vacation.

Why DON'T People Visit SAN MARINO? A Hidden Gem of Europe

I visited the world's fifth smallest country, San Marino, and explored everything there is to do in this hidden gem of Europe.

Just around 33 500 people live in San Marino, at an area of 61 square kilometers. It's one of three countries in the world that's completely landlocked inside another country. The other two are the Vatican and Lesotho - but this is definitely the most beautiful of the landlocked countries.

The most famous landmark of San Marino is probably the three towers located on the three peaks of Mount Titano, which is where the capital of San Marino is also located. The three towers are called Guaita, Cesta and Montale. Montale, the third tower, is not open to the public, but the other two are well worth a visit.

I also explore other things to do in San Marino, ranging from getting a San Marino visa at an exporbitant cost, looking at the Basilica di San Marino, looking at the different museums in the city, such as the impressive State Museum, and watching the changing of the guard at Piazza della Liberta, by the Palazzo Pubblico.

The Palazzo Pubblico also serves as San Marino's town hall, and it's an absolutely gorgeous place that's lit up at night.

Aside from beautiful views this video also dives into the history of San Marino, and various other places to visit, like Borgo Maggiore, a nearby town. There's surprisingly lot ot see in such a small country, so I hope you will find this interesting!

HELP ME MAKE MY WISH COME TRUE!
I'm dreaming of a Mustang since I was a child. Help me raise funds to afford it (I will buy it and keep it until I die)

Welcome in San Marino, the least visited country in Europe.
This is my second San Marino travel vlog, if you haven't seen my first vlog yet.. click on the link below.

San Marino is not only the least visited country in Europe, but it's also the 5th smallest country in the world. Only Vatican City, Tuvalu, Nauru en Monaco are smaller than this country.

On this episode I went to visit San Marino during night time to make some very beautfiful night pictures.

I realised that this least visited country is even more abandoned during night time.

I walked for about 2 hours and I haven't seen anyone yet.

Enjoy the video, and there will be another San Marino travel vlog coming up soon!

5 Things American Tourists Shouldn't Wear in Europe

Please Note: Young People Wear Many of These Styles Throughout Europe. These tips are geared toward 35+ year old travelers. Thanks for watching!

Grab a Wolters World Shirt

Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

WINTER Hits Hard in SAN MARINO | A Snowy Tour of the City!

One Winter’s day in San Marino visiting the Three Towers & taking a tour of the old city perched high up on Mount Titano. Welcome to a fortified winter wonderland!
See the rest of my trip to Italy & San Marino here →

I woke to find the city of San Marino completely buried in snow and ice, and whilst it was beautiful to see, it presented its own challenge for getting around and seeing the sights. Due to the snowstorm the place was deserted, most people visit San marino on a day trip and with conditions so bad it was impossible for tourists to actually get to the peak of Monte Titano - the spot where San Marino city lies.

Still, walking around in a foot of snow is an experience I’ll never forget and something that made the video pop (although I’ll let you be the judge of that!). Sadly the incredible views over miles of Italian countryside were obscured by the intense mist and fog, however on the upside it made the place look mysterious and mystical.

Although the Three Towers of San Marino were closed I was still able to walk around them on footpaths that were only just passable, after that I lost myself in the maze of small streets and snow covered alleyways in the heart of the historic city, visiting places such as the Basilica of San Marino and Liberty Square (Piazza della Libertà).
