Chikmagalur is a beautiful district situated on the western part of Karnataka. It is mostly popular for its coffee plantations and a pleasant climate. Another renowned attraction that Chikmagalur is known for is its Bababudan Giri ranges. Though it was among the underexplored destinations, the hill station thanks to its picturesque landscapes and greenery has earned a lot of attention from tourists across. The literal meaning of Chikmagalur is ‘Land of the younger daughter.

Located about 6400 ft above mean sea level, Mullayangiri is the tallest peak of Karnataka State. There is a temple at top of the summit.
While coming down from Mullayangiri take some time to stop over at a small quite temple dedicated to Seethala Mallikarjuna Swamy or Lord Shiva.
From Seethalayana and enroute to Baba Budangiri, I took a break at the Honnamana Halla Falls. Good place for kids to play around in chilled water and also good for clicking some pics.
From the curvy roads to scenic avenue, Baba Budangiri is abode to the man who brought coffee to India. It has shrine named after Sufi saint Baba Budan, who is revered by both Muslims and Hindus.
Just 7 kms ahead of Baba Budangiri there is a beautiful all season waterfalls called Manikyadhara. When sunlight falls on Manikyadhara, water droplets appear like sparkling pearls.
Gaalikere is part of Baba Budangiri travel circuit. It is located about 6 kms from Baba Budangiri shrine.
On the way back from Baba Budangiri and towards Chikkamagaluru, don’t miss to visit Jhari waterfalls also called Buttermilk water falls.
Next day, got up and headed towards ancient city named Amruthapura which is 67 kms from Chikkamagaluru. Amruthapura is famous for architecturally amazing Hoysala temple of the 12th century, named Amrutheshwara Temple.
On the way back from Amruthapura, visited Ayyankere Lake which is about 23 kms from Chikkamagaluru. Ayyankere is Karnataka’s second biggest lake and is one place you should not miss. .
Coffee Museum acquaints you not only with the history but also makes you aware of the technological aspects of coffee plantations.
Post all my learnings about coffee processing, next I headed to ancient Kodandarama Temple at Hiremagaluru. Original structure of this temple is 1200 years old and the overall structure of this temple has the signatures of the Cholas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar dynasties.
Amidst all the lush greenery and mountain ranges, a calm and serene lake called Hirekolale Lake is present at the foothills of Mullayanagiri Hills.

1. Baba Bundagiri Peak:You know why this peak is so famous ,baba budangiri is the first person who brought 7 coffee beans ???? from port of Mocha,yemen and he planted them first at this peak and thus Chikmagalur has become the first coffee exporter in India ????????
2. Mullayangari Peak: One of the best peak to test your fitness …haha just kidding but one must climb 400steps approximately to reach the peak point and you can spot shiva temple on the top.
3. Coffee plantation :you can find many coffee plantation on the way and try plucking coffee beans ????,trust me its not that easy job.
4. Manikhyadhara falls is one of the scariest places,when we visited the route was toomuch misty and we couldnt see the route and it was no clear to reach the destination,but my suggestion if you are going by your own car happily you can take till the entry point.
Note: Don’t go with Jeep,they will scare you saying road is not good .but its okay and happily you can go with your car ????
5.Z point : on the way to Baba Bundagiri, you can cover Z point too and its a beautiful landscape one must climb and experience the view.
6.Jhari waterfalls is also called as Buttermilk falls and here you can walk to the waterfalls and if not you need to go with jeep ride and own vehicles are not allowed ????
7.Manikhyadhara lake: while going to manikhyadhara falls we spotted this small beautiful lake,if you are lucky you csn spot samba (deers) .we spotted somany at this place,try your luck!
8.Honammanna waterfalls: This falls is on the main road when you are going to Jhari/baba budangiri peak.
9.Hebbe falls: This is one of the famous falls you must visit during your visit to Chikmagalur.
10.Lastly enjoy the misty view of Chikmagalur ,the road and landscapes from the top of mountains is just crazy!
