This PRIVATE ISLAND is in Nicaragua??!! Our Calala Island Travel Vlog

We explored an exclusive PRIVATE ISLAND hideaway in the undiscovered Caribbean of Nicaragua in this travel vlog.

Calala Island is ultra all-inclusive. The average cost per night is $2,300 and includes everything from transportation to the island (from Managua, Nicaragua), accommodations in one of 4 suites, meals, adult beverages, and activities. If you are up for an adventure to make the trek to the island, we highly recommend it.

Getting to Calala Island was an adventure - it included an international flight, a domestic flight, taxi rides, and a traditional open-top speed boat.

This was our last international trip together as Josh is now in heaven. We visited and filmed this video in January 2021. I am so thankful that we were able to experience this private island together. Josh was an amazing human and had a podcast to help people overcome life's challenges. Episode 884 | Filmed May 2023 | Calala, Nicaragua

——————————————————

Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here:

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.

We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)

So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.

Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.

4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time.

After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time traveling! And now we are finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)

We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ???????????? Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

Our Stay at Calala Island, a Fabulous Ultra All Inclusive Resort in Nicaribbean #nicaragua #calala

Calala island is a private ultra-inclusive resort located in Nicaribbean (Nicaragua, on Caribbean side). Getting here is a long journey, flew from LAX to Miami to Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua; then a domestic flight to Bluefields, drive into town to get to the pier for about 2 hrs boat ride. Finally, we’ve arrived in this fantastic, beautiful island. Everything is included on your room rate: roundtrip transfer from Managua airport, 3 meals a day which are all gourmet, all drinks/beverages both alcoholic & non; various activities such as snorkelling, island hopping, fishing, cooking demo, rum tasting, excursion into Pearl Lagoon village, etc., etc.! This is now my favorite island and we’ve been to Maldive, Bora Bora, Moorea, El Nido Palawan. Must include on your bucket list.

Little Corn Island | A week on a tiny Caribbean island in Nicaragua

#CornIslands #LittleCornIsland #CaribbeanIsland

Little Corn Island is the smaller of the Corn Islands, 50 miles off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. It's an idyllic Caribbean island with crystal clear water which makes it very popular for scuba diving.

After flying from Managua to Bluefields and then to Big Corn Island, we then took a 30 minute boat (known as a Panga) to Little Corn. With no cars or roads, you have to get around the traditional way....walking. Lots of the hotels/hostels will help carry your bags (in wheelbarrows) to wherever you need to go, although bear in mind that most places are within 20-30 minutes walk of the dock.

We spent just under a week on Little Corn Islands, staying mainly at Little Corn Bed and Breakfast ( which was around $90 USD per night. However, there is a wide range of options. We were offered a room for $7 USD a night, and also stayed one night a Carlito's place which is more of a beach shack but still perfectly comfortable for $25 USD per night. The expensive place that we tried to get a room at when we first arrived can be up to $300 USD per night but honestly, it didn't seem worth it.

It's a quiet, sleepy island where most people are either relaxing on the beach, swimming, snorkelling scuba diving or fishing. There was quite a lot of seaweed floating in the water and washing up on the beach, but Little Corn B&B did a good job of cleaning it up. Plus it's only close to the shore so when you take the boat out to the reef to go snorkelling, the water is crystal clear.

Here's a few travel tips if you're visiting Little Corn:

- There are no ATMs on the island so make sure you take cash out before you fly or get cash out on Big Corn

- There is no electricity on Little Corn between 6am and 1pm so make sure you charge your stuff over night or bring a power bank

- The two restaurants that we usually ate at were really good: Tranquilo Cafe and Lobster Inn, both of which are near the dock on the West side of Little Corn Island

HISTORY OF OMETEPE ISLAND | & the Pirates of Lake Nicaragua (8 Minutes)

Get ready to go back in time, with real photos and narration, we show you the history of Ometepe Island, and the pirates that plundered Lake Nicaragua. We start at the petroglyphs and findings from 2000 BC, then fast forward to the 16th century, when pirates such as Henry Morgan, sailed up the San Juan River and captured the city of Granada. Then to the battle at the Fortress of the Immaculate Conception, and later to the 19th century where William Walker took over Nicaragua and claimed himself president.
