These are the Rock Islands of Palau.

Located in the Republic of Palau’s southern lagoon this marine and terra firma preserve is protected by UNESCO World Heritage.

The intricate coasts contain an exceptional array of habitats that supports a high density and diversity of species.

The Rock Islands contain the highest concentration of marine lakes in the world, which continue to yield new species discoveries. The most popular of which is Jellyfish Lake, where we will swim with hundreds of jellyfish who have evolved without their natural sting defense.

The Islands support numerous endemic and endangered species, and although presently uninhabited, the islands were once home to many ancient Micronesian settlements.

In more modern history Palau was a significant and strategic location during World War II’s war in the pacific. Relics of that war can be seen scattered throughout the Palauan Islands.

Today is the first of three days exploring this breathtaking archipelago of 445 small lushly forested raised coral islands.

Over the next few days we will swim with sharks, visit ancient Micronesian ruins, jump off a cliff into an ocean cave full of bats, kayak Nikko Bay and Ulong Island, explore abandoned WWII bunkers, snorkel Jellyfish Lake, cover ourselves in limestone mud at the Milky way Lagoon, and so much more!

We begin our morning at Malakal Harbor and NECO Marine. After a brief check-in and a few random photos we board our boat and head into the Harbor. Our first stop is the famous Milky Way Lagoon for a muddy Palauan spa day experience.

We will then travel south for a hike and a swim in Jellyfish Lake.

Back on the boat we will head through Yoo Passage to Neco Island for lunch and a buck-list snorkel with black tip sharks.

After a good meal for us, and thankfully no meal for the sharks, we head for a quick snorkel at Clam City before heading further south through the Omekang Islands and the German Channel, arriving at the Big Drop off…one of the most spectacular dive spots in the world.

Finally, as the day begins to wind down we travel into the western lagoon for views of Palau’s famous coral arch before heading back to Malakal Harbor.

Guide to Palau

My family and I recently had the chance to visit the Republic of Palau, or just Palau. 4 out of the 5 of us were also able to scuba dive there. This is my guide for going to Palau to be used as a possible place to start if you are looking at planning a trip to Palau.
Your experience will be different and likely by the time you go things will change. Be sure to research and plan so that you will be able to prepare for the trip.

We used Fish N Fin's for our diving ,non-diving activities, planning, and booking our trip:

We stayed at the Cove Resort Palau who took very good care of us as well:

Palau is an island paradise standing up to the world

The tiny island of Palau is a remote, beautiful paradise and the rest of the world knows it. But existing in a connected world can put extreme stress on small countries. The nation of just 20,000 people has seen an influx of tourists recently, but that hasn’t necessarily been a good thing.

But visitors arriving by the tens of thousands from such behemoths as Japan, South Korea, and China, put considerable stress on Palau’s environment and economy.

Quartz News travels far into the Pacific to find out how the island nation of Palau is standing up for itself against the world’s superpowers.

I am Grace on Tour and travel has been my biggest passion ever since I can remember. My very first international trip was done two weeks after I was born. In the summer of 2018 I started posting on this channel as I set off on a trip around Asia before studying a semester in Taiwan. During this time my love for travel grew and I tried to travel to new places during my weekends off from university. Throughout uni I made travel a priority and worked multiple side jobs to fund my travels. After doing my thesis in Hong Kong I graduated in June 2019. At this point I decided to take a gap year and go traveling. My goal was to visit as many countries as possible. I soon realized that travel is what I love and wan´t to keep on doing. I now dream of visiting every country in the world.

Gratitude & Acknowledgement:
Thank you to all the Palauans who took part in this video sharing their culture to simply helping me learn. This is what cultural immersion is all about and grateful to all of you.

Why Living Like A..?:

Living Like A Palauan was an idea I had prior to Palau had I immersed myself deeply and naturally into the culture. And because I did, that idea quickly took off with the video project underway Mid November until this week.

But Living Like A.. didnt begin in Palau, it actually began 5 years ago in the Kingdom Of Tonga????????, where I was so blessed to be able to stay in a village on the island group of Vava'u.

Little did I know, my curiosity of the ways Tongans live their lives allowed me to, in the short time that i stayed, LIVE LIKE A TONGAN.

Living Like A Tongan was my very first true culturally immersive experience in my travels and to this day is very special to me, as well as the thousands of Tongans that watch it. It opened the door to a whole new inner passion of mine and that was learning about world cultures. ????

Living Like a Tongan happened to be one of my biggest Youtube videos and has beautifully brought so many proud Tongans to my video and to my channel, thanking me for loving their culture and taking the time to show the Tongan way.

Living Like A Palaun is very much all of this with the same heart, love, and passion for culture. The only difference now, my camera gear is far better and my storytelling and post editing skills are through the roof.

Which means, the ability to extend the voices of Palau and represent a whole culture is far greater. ????????
