7 Days in Slovenia: A traveler's guide to the beautiful nation
Welcome to Slovenia. This small country (the size of New Jersey) sits between Italy, Austria, and Croatia, and as you’ll see, is one of Europe’s raddest places to travel. We gave ourselves a week. Starting off in Lake Bled, we swam in one of the most postcard looking lakes you’ve ever seen before heading off to sail in the Adriatic. From here we explored the Soča Valley — a region with turquoise blue rivers and limitless adventure options. Farm to table food and family-run wineries are a way of life in Slovenia, and we were stoked to spend time with world famous chef Ana RoŠ from HiŠa Franko restaurant as well as Aleš Kristančič, the storied winemaker of Movia vineyards. Don’t overlook this country when thinking of your next travels to Europe.

Postojna Cave
Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors. Vintgar Gorge
Vintgar Gorge, carved by Radovna River, is located near Gorje, approximately 4 kilometres north-west from Bled. The 1.6-kilometre long gorge is carved amidst the glorious vertical walls of Hom and Boršt hills, and it is highlighted by the Radovna River and its waterfalls, pools and rapids.

The Pohorje mountains, which are green and surround Maribor, are a great place to spend time in nature. It is a great place for hikers, cyclists, and horse riders because there are so many beautiful forest trails, peat moors, and vine roads. Pohorje is one of the best places to ski in the country during the winter. On the way to the mountains, tourists can stop at tourist homesteads and vineyards that serve homemade food and wellness centers in the mountains that offer spas and places to relax.

Before taking part in the tasks, each person is tested on the ground. The bravest guests will be taken 14 meters above the ground, which is the same as being at the top of a six-story building.

Lent is the oldest part of Maribor, and it shows off the town's rich cultural history the best. The town's big fortress was built in the 1600s and can be seen from Usnjarska , one of the oldest streets in the city. Because there were leather shops on this street hundreds of years ago, it was known as the dirtiest street in town. Now, the street leads people all the way through the Jewish district, past the Water Tower. The Judgement Tower is another interesting part of the fortress. It has to do with the witch trials that used to happen in Maribor.

Maribor's past is closely linked to the river Drava and the bridges that cross it. In times of peace, bridges were a sign of the city's wealth and power because many trade routes went through it. One of the most beautiful bridges in the Austro-Hungarian Empire was the Old Bridge, which was built at the start of the 20th century. It was hurt during World War 2, but in 1998 it was finally fixed up.

What to do In Slovenia
Finally at Day 5 of our road trip! in this video we wake up super early but late in Rovinj Croatia and rush to make our Canyoning adventure at Lake Bled Slovenia which we booked with Out Door Slovenia. We make it with time to spare and have the entire Grmecica Canyon all to ourselves with our tour guide Jani (who does crazy flips). This was both of our first times canyoning and it was incredible. The water was cold but after the first few jumps we hardly even noticed. The views in the canyon were amazing and I found two hidden underwater caves/tunnels that were fun to swim through and film.

Slovenia's capital and largest city is one of Europe's greenest and most liveable capitals; it was the European Commission's Green Capital of Europe in 2016. Car traffic is restricted in the centre, leaving the leafy banks of the emerald-green Ljubljanica River, which flows through the city's heart, free for pedestrians and cyclists. There's much more that can be found to do and it is an amazingly beautiful, sedate, walkable, and friendly city. English is ubiquitous which makes the museums easy and the cakes are delicious. Take your time and enjoy the whole experience.

Predjama Castle is a magnificent Renaissance castle. What makes this castle unique is the fact that it is built inside a cave. The castle used to be home to Erazem Lueger, a knight, who was known as the local Robin Hood.

The Slovenian underground hides thousands of caves. Among those, twenty-two are open to the public, and Postojna Cave is the most visited. A 90-minute guided tour takes visitors through caverns, halls, and passages that were carved by the Pivka River.
See the wonders of Lake Bled
Lake Bled is one of the most visited attractions in Slovenia. The beautiful views of the lake and the small island it surrounds brings thousands of visitors every year.
Immerse yourself in Lipica Stud Farm
Lipica Stud Farm has been breeding Lipizzaner horses since the sixteenth century. Once used by royals for their private stables, the farm is now open to visitors and allows them to admire this beautiful breed of horse.
Stroll around Triglav National park
The Triglav National Park, named after the country’s tallest mountain, is the only National Park in Slovenia. With beautiful views of the mountains, hills, lakes, rivers, and pastures, this park is a nature lover’s paradise. Aside from hiking, Triglav National Park offers great activities such as kayaking, rafting, skydiving, and parasailing.
Be amazed of the Salt Fields
The Salt pans in the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park are one of the few places in the world where sea salt is still produced by using a centuries-old method. When walking on the park trails, visitors can observe salt being harvested manually by local workers. For those who wish to pamper themselves, Lepa Vida Thalasso Spa offers massages and baths where the healing powers of the sea salt are used.
Take the Chance to see the Oldest Vine in the World
In the Lent area of Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city grows the oldest grape-producing vine in the world. Records show that the vine has been growing on the façade of an old house since the seventeenth century. The house is now a visitor’s center where guests can taste the best wines of the Maribor region. In honor of the oldest vine, The Old Vine Festival is organized every year. The festival starts in September with picking the grapes off the vine, and it ends with a big celebration on St. Martin’s Day when the must turns into wine.
Check out the Kobarid Museum
The Kobarid Museum was founded with the purpose of preserving, presenting, and researching the history of World War I in Slovenia. Most of the museum is dedicated to the Soča Front, the most important front on the Slovenian territory in the Great War. The rooms of the museum present visitors with photos documenting the horrors of the front, military charts, diaries and maps, and two large relief displays showing the front lines. Visitors can explore the museum on their own, or they can partake in one of the guided tours.
Get a rush at Planica Nordic Center
Planica is home to the biggest ski jumping hill in the world. For over twenty years it has hosted one of the most important ski jumping competitions in the world. In 2015 Planica received a much-needed update, and the new Planica Nordic Center was built. Aside from the ski jumps the center also features an athletics stadium, a zipline, a wind tunnel, cycling and walking paths, and a visitor’s center. Planica zipline has the steepest descent in the world, which creates the sensations that ski jumping champions feel when flying through the air.
Go on an Adventure at Solkan Bridge
The Solkan Bridge, located near Nova Gorica, is a great place to view the turquoise Soča River and the beautiful Soča Valley. The bridge also holds the world record for the longest train bridge built solely out of stone. For the truly adventurous, bungee jumping off the bridge is the most unique way to admire the beauty of the Soča Valley.
