One of the best ways to experience Bruneian food culture is to go to the Gadong Night Market in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei Darussalam. It is very similar to Hawker centres in Singapore, where fresh street food is prepared in a community centre and is very affordable. We came here after visiting the beautiful Bolkiah Mosque and set a $6 challenge to feast on a variety of the locals' favourite food items. We had Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Mango Shake, Milo Dinosaur, aneka gorengan (fried snacks) and homemade chocolate cake. We also peeked inside the Gadong Mall Brunei!
Honestly, this is one of the best things to do in Brunei not for the food alone, but for a chance to see and interact with lovely locals and curious visitors.

However, Brunei is not always shown in a favourable light due to its strict laws and customs, but we're more interested in the people and what the country has to offer, because we know that a country’s government and its people are not the same and it’s often easy to generalise a population based on a country's leaders and policies.

We went to the Gadong night market and the Jame 'Asr Mosque. Then we had a brief stop at the Chinese Temple where there was a Chinese Opera performance by the guest troop from Xiamen, China, in conjunction of the mid-Autumn festival.

Hey, everyone! In this #Brunei #travelvlog we are exploring more of Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei!
We started our day by visiting the Royal Regalia Museum. The museum is dedicated to gifts to the Sultan and also contains many historical artifacts.
In the afternoon, we headed down to the jetty for our cruise along the river. We were recommended this particular tour from someone we met in Malaysia, and it did not disappoint. It was a peaceful boat ride through the natural mangroves in search of the endangered Proboscis Monkeys, only found on Borneo Island! We saw lots of wildlife and got our first glimpse of the wild Proboscis Monkeys. We would highly recommend cruising the mangroves if you are in Brunei.

He has meet-and-greets with whomever wishes to attend, which I found suprising considering he’s the sole ruler of the country, and one of the wealthiest people in the world! He took a few hours to meet with as many folks as possible and couldn’t have been more down to earth!
