**I made this video 3 years ago, but only shared it to Facebook...so I wanted to post it for all you guys here on YouTube! Please excuse the fast paced editing and shaky camera -- I was a newbie back then**
BE HONEST... could you tell me anything about TAJIKISTAN?
I couldn’t tell you much either, before arriving here yesterday... My first day wandering around Tajikistan's capital city of Dushanbe was off-beat and eye opening. I was stopped by the police TWICE for taking photos & videos (I don't know why).. so it was a challenge to make this video! Dushanbe is a very different place than anywhere I’ve ever been (in a cool & unique way), and I’m excited to see more of the country over the coming days.

ajikistan is a landlocked country located in Central Asia that shares borders with Afghanistan to the south, Xinjiang in China to the east, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and Uzbekistan to the west and northwest.
Tajikistan may not be among the most visited tourist destination, but its attractions are far from ordinary.
Overall generally speaking, Tajikistan is relatively safe to visit. It has a low crime rate and a friendly population that will try to make you feel like home. Apply all precaution measures to minimize the chances of something going wrong.

Crossing a River into AFGHANISTAN? (TAJIKISTAN TRAVEL 2022)
Visit and take a trip to Tajikistan in Central Asia and travel to a former Soviet country full of high altitude mountain scenery, frozen lakes like Lake Karakul and Lake Iskanderkul and historic castles like Hisor Fort and the ruins of Yamchu. Watch as my friend and I take a road trip on Pamir Highway RIGHT across the river from Afghanistan.
A tour of Tajikistan is part of a classic 5 country tour of The Stans in Central Asia. We took a Tajikistan hokifay on a small group tour because the roads are treacherous and public transportation can be difficult. On tour we got to sleep in yurts and at homestays with locals. So Cool!
The Tajikistan landscape scenery is spectacular and the Tajik people and Tajik culture are an interesting mash-up of traditions from neighboring countries Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. I especially enjoyed mixing it up with locals and kids in villages like Ptup and Karakul and tasting traditional Tajik food like plov.
Other places of interest include Khorog, Dushanbe (the capital), Langar, Murghab and Darvaz and beautiful Lake Bulunkul and Lake Yashilkul.

Tajikistan became Visa free, so we went there (57 hours after)
Tajikistan lifted its visa policies. German citizens are now allowed to enter the country without a visa. We wanted to test the border officials, if they think so too. So we started our journey in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and then we went to Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Tajikistan is considered one of the least democratic countries in the world, and with a democracy index of only 1.94, it falls just 7 places short of North Korea.

Good Bye Uzbekistan, Welcome Tajikistan |EP-01| How 2 Get a GBAO permit from Dushanbe For Pamir
So, Goodbye Uzbekistan, welcome Tajikistan is the true title of this vlog. In this Vlog, I sadly said goodbye to Uzbekistan and happily entered Tajikistan. I spent a week in Uzbekistan and visited Tashkent, Bukhara, and Samarkand. Then I took a Somon Air flight from Tashkent to reach Dushanbe. I want to experience a land border crossing but at that time the land borders were closed.
After entering Tajikistan, I directly went to the OVER office in Dushanbe and got my GBAO permit. I clearly mention the procedure of getting the GABO permit from the OVER office here. Finally, I reached my hostel to take a due rest for my visit to the capital city of Dushanbe.
HOW TO GET TO DUSHANBE
Dushanbe is a major destination for many domestic and international airlines. Tajikistan has a couple of local carriers like Tajic Air and Somon Air that operates for Dushanbe too. We reached Dushanbe from Tashkent by Somon Air. The flight distance was one hour. Generally, a one-way ticket costs 30~40$, if booked before time. However, I had purchased the ticket at a cost of 130$. I had to pay more for the specific day ticket.
WHAT IS GBAO PERMIT AND WHERE TO GET IT
If anyone wants to visit the Pamir region of Tajikistan then he needs a GBAO(Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast) permit. So, we have to get it beside the embassy visa with one additional stamp on our Tajikistan visa. Otherwise, we can take it from Tajikistan after our arrival. Here I enlist a few points on how to get a GBAO Permit from the OVIR(Office of Visa and Registration) office in Dushanbe.
I went to OVIR office Dushanbe Mirzo Turzunzade Street 5.
• After entering go right side and entered from the rightmost door. You can ask any person from there or just simply say GBAO and they will direct you to the GBAO counter
• A lady will take your passport and provide you a printed copy after entering your relevant information. You will pay 10 Samoni for the fee of this entry
• You will then go to a nearby bank Amonat Bank and will deposit a fee of 20 Somoni. The Bank official will check your passport and entered the relevant information into the challan form Receipt.
• You will come to the OVIR office again and provide the challan form receipt along with your passport to the adjacent counter in the same previous room.
• They will receive the form and ask you to collect back the permit on next day. In my case, I have a plan to leave right the next morning, so they provided me the GBAO permit within the next half hour.
• This permit will be checked in several places during your travel from Dushanbe to the Pamir region.
WHERE TO STAY IN DUSHANBE
We stayed in City Hostel Dushanbe for three nights. One night, on our arrival to Dushanbe, and two nights after visiting Khorog. The Hostel owner, Mr. Kamran was a good guy and we had many helpful travel tips from him. The hostel rooms were clean and the location was very convenient.
