GIBRALTAR | The Best Day Trip From Malaga, Spain

Gibraltar is a British territory, a 2 hour drive from Malaga, Spain. Gibraltar is famous for its military forts hidden within the Rock of Gibraltar, a nearly 1,400 ft tall limestone ridge jutting up from the Mediterranean sea. After going through border control and getting our passports stamped, we ate a full english breakfast and hiked to the top of The Rock. Although we took the road up to the top, we hiked down the Mediterranean steps with some of the sketchiest stairs we have ever seen.

Quick trip to Gibraltar - NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!

I decided to make a quick trip to Gibraltar. I've never been before. I had an expectation in my mind that it would be some kind of ultra British enclave, but its not at all. They voted overwhelmingly to Remain. I spotted one Union flag on the high street. I didn't do the tunnels or go to harass the Monkeys, I'll do that at a later date. Huge queue of cars to get in, but I just parked up on the Spanish side and walked across. I wandered up and down Main Street, which felt like any European town. I'll go back in 2023 and do the tunnels.

Why You SHOULD Visit Gibraltar!

What's it like in Gibraltar? Join me on a Tour of Gibraltar on Spain’s southern coast, a region well known for its towering rock and fascinating military history. The British Overseas Territory situated at the end of the Iberian Peninsula is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, famous for it's siege tunnels and it's monkeys (actually Barbary Macaques,) Although it covers less than 3 square miles, the strategic location of Gibraltar has made it one of the most fought over places in Europe. For centuries it has withstood political manoeuvring, sieges, battles and today, with its red call boxes, Union Jacks and high street shops, Gibraltar staunchly stands as a small pocket of England in the heart of the Mediterranean.

We start the tour in Casements Square and walk in to Gibraltar town centre towards Main Street, We the pass through Grand Casements Gates and cross the street to explore Ocean Village - The famous marina and site of many bars, restaurants and coffee shops. from there we explore the rock of Gibraltar and it's many attractions including :-

Apes' Den / Barbary Macaques - Gibraltar's wild monkeys in their natural habitat
Gibraltar Nature Reserve, Upper Rock - Gibraltar's most prominent landmark and nature reserve
Mediterranean Steps - UNESCO World Heritage Site Buffer Zone
O'Hara's Battery - Highest point of the Rock of Gibraltar
Skywalk - Glass lookout with spectacular views at the top of the Rock
St Michael's Cave - A natural cave in the heart of the Rock
Windsor Suspension Bridge - A suspension bridge - not for the faint hearted

I also check out the beaches of Gibraltar including

Camp Bay & Little Bay - A former quarry turned into a lido, and a little rocky beach by the cliffs
Catalan Bay - A picturesque village by the sea located on the east side of the Rock
Eastern Beach - Gibraltar's largest beach located adjacent to the airstrip
Sandy Bay - A secluded beach with orange sand from the Sahara

And lastly Gibraltar Airport is listed as one of the most dangerous airports in the World. Not at least because of it's only 1777m long runway, but also because of the 4-lane Winston Churchill Avenue, which is crossing the runway

London Gatwick Airport - Flight Flying during a pandemic - What to expect?

How easy is it to travel during the pandemic and to a green list country? What do you need to do before hand, is there anything open at the airport, Do I need to do anything different?
Each country in the world is categorised as being either green, amber or red, depending on their coronavirus infection rates.

This is my experience heading out from Gatwick Airport, North Terminal to Gibraltar.
You will need to take a pre-departure Covid-19 test and a PCR test on or before day two of their return. People coming from green list countries have to provide a negative Covid test within 72 hours of departure and then pay for a PCR test on or before their second day back in the UK.

Includes full take off from Gatwick and Landing at Gibraltar on EasyJet and how to take a PCR Test

What to see in Gibraltar

What to see in Gibraltar

We always try to explore as much possible on a new destination, and with 24 hours on our hand, we had to be efficient and maximize our stay in Gibraltar. But, wow!, It's incredible how much you can explore in Gibraltar, in just 24 hours! ⏰

We started by crossing a live airport runway ????❗️, we had good food in a modern, yet cosy, city centre, became acquainted with wild monkeys ????, and learned more about the history of this disputed territory ????????

Hiking the Rock for many hours in the hot sun (don’t forget to wear a hat and bring water if you plan to visit Gibraltar!) made our bodies sore. Then, to our surprise, our Airbnb came with the nicest pool area and a jacuzzi! Thanks to our friendly host we enjoyed this luxury!????????????

We ended our 24 hours in Gibraltar at the very end of the territory at The Europa point,. Where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet.

We took the bus back and after one last hike we took a refreshing swim at Catalan Bay. ⛱????‍♀️????

Gibraltar in 2021

A long weekend trip to Gibraltar in early July 2021 for my 30th Birthday. We got to see the whole country via bikes, boats, cable cars and walking around the old town.

This was my first trip on a plane since the lockdown back in March 2020. Please note: at the time of flying this was a green list country and I took 3 Covid tests as part of travelling as well as being double vaccinated.

Trip Report | London to Gibraltar | British Airways EuroTraveler | Flight Review | Airbus A320

Join me on this short EuroTraveller flight on board British Airways from Heathrow down to Gibraltar. I've reviewed the flight taken in May 2022 from London to Gibraltar. Let me know what you think of the review in the comments.

If you like this flight review, check out my blog articles at

Flight Details
Route: London Heathrow (LHR) to Gibraltar (GIB)
Airline: British Airways
Flight: BA429
Aircraft: Airbus A320 (G-MIDO)
Seat: 21A
Cabin Class: Euro Traveler (Economy)
Scheduled Departure: 1 May 2022 @ 7:10. Actual Departure @ 7:25
Scheduled Arrival: 1 May 2022 @ 11:05. Actual landing @ 10:45
Duration: 2:55 scheduled, 2:21 actual.

Overall the flight was pretty good for an economy service, notably because of the good pre departure lounge experience. I think the buy on board menu also helped make the flight more enjoyable and made the journey fly by as I ate my way across Spain. I would have liked to use the WiFi to stream some shows but writing this blog post was just as enjoyable. The approach and landing into Gibraltar was spectacular for those, like me, who are seated on the left hand side of the aircraft making it a must do flight for any true aviation geek. I’ll post a blog on my amazing day in Gibraltar soon but this brings us to the end of this flight review.

This trip report Video review was filmed in 4K on GoPro Hero 10.

GIBRALTAR (UK) DAY TRIP! | From Malaga, Spain | Backpacking travel in Pandemic | JustforJoys Travels

Ep6: Follow our journey from Malaga (Spain) to Gibraltar (UK) adventure, exploring amazing and interesting places all around the world!

On Day 6, we continued on our backpacking trip around the Andalusia region of Spain, and today we decide to make a little detour to visit the small and unique overseas territory of the United Kingdom.

The day began with some hiccups but we managed to get eventually get to Gibraltar. We have not much time to explore Gilbraltar fully, but we are so super amazed that even for such a small place (6.5 km sq), there are so much culture, history, and people making this rock their home! This is what makes us so excited to visit each and every place in the world!!

During COVID pandemic, traveling in and out of Singapore is banned and our goal to travel around the world came to a halt for 2 whole years! But during October 2021, when Singapore announced Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) is available with Singapore Airlines, and when several new destinations (such as Spain) is available. We jumped on this opportunity to resume our love to travel and wander around the world.

This time round, we set for Spain and it's neighboring countries/territories. Can't wait to bring you along our EPIC adventure after so long!

A Day In Gibraltar ???????? Discovering the Mediterranean with Princess Cruises???? | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Join us as we take you on a quick tour through Gibraltar, a.k.a the “Key to the Mediterranean”.

Centuries of history and vast cultural diversity shaped this British overseas territory into a must-visit tourist destination. As the home of the European Pillar of Hercules (the Rock of Gibraltar), this place offers breathtaking views of two continents, Europe and Africa.

The UK influence became evident as soon as we got off the Sky Princess. Even the girls started sounding very British all of a sudden :-)

For such a small place, Gibraltar offers many interesting sights. From the famous red phone booths and police officers with distinctive tophats to mega yacht hotels and Mediterranean-style cafés - Gibraltar has a peculiar mixture of Spanish vibrance and British tradition.

Shortly after disembarking the ship we were welcomed by the Grand Casemates Gates that led us into the main Gibraltar square.

After a short walk through the busy streets of Gibraltar, we decided to visit the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Since we failed to find any public transport, we continued walking all the way to the top and we didn’t regret it because the road offered spectacular waterfront views. Thanks to the nice sunny weather, we were even able to see the mountains of Morocco on the coast of Africa.

As soon as we reached the top, we saw the Pillar of Hercules - a landmark paying tribute to Gibraltar as an important financial and trading point.

While deciding on what to see next, Pepe had a great idea to do a little prank on the tourist busses arriving at the viewpoint for pictures. It was even more fun because we convinced other tourists to join in on it with us.

Our next stop was the Apes den. The Upper Rock Nature Reserve is home to the famous Barbary macaque apes - the only wild monkeys in Europe. The last time we were here, there were many more of them around. Luckily, we still got the chance to take great close-up shots of these funny little creatures.

On our way down, we took a different route that led us back to the main square and cruise ship quite fast.

Back on board, we sat down for dinner at a restaurant that offered amazing Sunset views.
Then the girls discovered a secret elevator that took us up and down for about 20 minutes before we finally got to the 18th floor.

Later in the evening, we spent time relaxing in the hot tub, sipping on some nice drinks as the Sun slowly set down in the West.

This evening was made extra special by the ship horns playing a short melody announcing that we were about to set sail.

And if that wasn’t magical enough, we went to see a magician perform some entertaining tricks and illusions.

After all that relaxing time, we needed music to get us in our usual rhythm and the amazing Phillip Browne delivered another perfect performance.

Talking about ending the night on a high note, we decided to treat ourselves to some delicious desserts and some more dancing!

Enjoy the video!

One Day In Gibraltar | Monkeys, Africa views & more | Driving Around The World | Vlog 8 | VAN LIFE

We spent a day visiting the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar on Spain's Southern Coast!

It's basically a rock, but there are some interesting sights to see, and the views from the rock of Gibraltar are unbelievable on a clear day (we got lucky!). You can see amazing views of Africa, and that was truly epic.

We loved wandering around the city, the old town and visiting the monkeys, whom there are 350 of and they came from Africa.

It's so strange that you literally go through border control then back to using the British Pound, and there is a Morrisons shopping centre, which is truly the most British shopping place there is, so it was totally weird, and really strange for the senses!

But we did stock up on fake vegan meat alternatives, which there isn't a wide variety of in Spain (so far), so that was fun!

If you're visiting for the day there are no covid reactions on entry to Gibraltar, but in all honesty, no one asked us, and no one seemed to care...so take from that what you will!

It was a super warm day, and I'm really happy we took a tour to the rock of Gibraltar. Usually, we're all about DIY'in our sightseeing, but with the heat, I was more than happy to be shipped around in an air condionted vehicle, and actually have someone give me information on all the sights we were visiting!

It's around £30 for a tour per person, and I think it's look value for the hour and 45 minutes it takes.

We also visited beautiful Marbella, which was a real treat, we didn't have a lot of time, so we stopped for breakfast and had a wander, and lusted after the yachts a little bit!

After that we visited the random small village of Juzcar, which is a village that's been painted blue and is kind of a smurf town, because of all the smurfs dotted around the village.

We were on our way up the mountains to another special place (you'll have to watch vlog 9 to see that), and Juzcar was on the way, so it's definitely worth a visit!

Hope you enjoyed this video, and see you in the next one!

Gibraltar 4K

Gibraltar is a British crown colony with about thirty thousand inhabitants. There is a completely unique world on just six and a half square kilometers, where the locals will surprise you with their Spanish cordiality and British courtesy. The former military base offers plenty of entertainment and nightlife, and staying here is an unadulterated experience. You can easily reach the top on foot or by cable car.

From the 426 meters high rock, you can see the African continent with suitable visibility, which is approximately 320 days a year in these regions. A wonderful and romantic experience is sitting on one of Gibraltar's many viewpoints at dusk while looking at the luminous African coast. John Lennon also appreciated the romance of the place and ended the golden sixties with a wedding with Yoko Ono in Gibraltar.
