My name is Brian but everyone calls me Greeny. I retired in January of 2020 after working 30 years in my field. I didn’t want to work so long that I would be too old to enjoy my retirement. After living in Michigan my whole life I decided I wanted to retire somewhere warm, somewhere exotic. I sampled a ton of places in the Caribbean, Panama, Colombia, Turkey but set my sights on Thailand. I spent most of the winter of 2020 exploring Thailand then ......you know what happened. IT!!! So I had to catch one of the last flights and come home. Now I’m back.
Why am I making videos? I need a hobby. I feel if I don’t do anything creative my mind may melt. I can also easily go back and reminisce by watching the videos. If anyone else enjoys them then that is a plus.

The province of Kanchanaburi is about a 2.5 hour drive to the west of Bangkok. It’s easily accessible by road or rail and is a must-visit for anyone interested in an authentic Thai experience filled with cultural, natural, and historical attractions. Kanchanaburi city, located on the confluence of the Khwae Noi and Khwae Yai rivers, is a great base to explore the region from. In this video, we highlight 6 fun things to do in Kanchanaburi:

6. Visit the Death Railway The Death Railway is a sad part of Thailand’s history. Originally called the Thailand-Burma Railway, it was constructed during World War II by prisoners of war and enslaved civilians under Japanese occupation. Over 100,000 laborers died during its 16 month construction because of inhumane conditions. Today, you can walk or take a train across this bridge as well as learn more about it at the Death Railway Museum or JEATH War Museum. You can also visit the nearby Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.
5. Stroll around the night market Wherever you go in Thailand, you are never far from a night market and Kanchanaburi is no exception. Located next to the Kanchanaburi train station, this night market sells just about anything. It’s a great place to spend an evening sampling Thai cuisine, from a range of rotis and coconut-rice pancakes, to fresh juices, fried rice and noodles.
4. Visit the colorful temple Wat Tham Suea One of our favorite temples in all of Thailand is located in the heart of the Kanchanaburi province. Set amongst stunning scenery, the Tiger Cave Temple is located on a hilltop and can be reached by a set of stairs or a small tram. Inside the temple, you can see a massive Buddha image and several chedi’s that are divided into different floors. The orange chedi offers the most incredible view of the Buddha below. But be aware that the temple is still very active, so be respectful at all times.
3. Visit the narrow cave temple Wat Tham Khao Pun Another sacred site worth visiting near Kanchanaburi town is the limestone cave temple, which used to be a concentration camp during World War ll. Inside the cave, you can find 9 rooms that are connected by narrow passageways. Besides buddha images, you can also find a room where they illustrate the history of Kanchanaburi during the second World War. After visiting the temple, you can walk down the road and take in a beautiful view of the river and mountain scenery.
2. Relax and watch the sunset over the river A nice peaceful thing to do in Kanchanaburi is to simply relax on the banks of the river during sunset. Many hotels, restaurants, and bars in Kanchanaburi are located along the river's edge, offering some breathtaking evening views.
1.Spend a day at Erawan waterfalls The Erawan Falls are located about a 1.5 hour drive or bus ride from Kanchanaburi town. In the park, you can follow a scenic hiking trail to the different levels of the waterfalls, and some of the turquoise pools are a lovely spot to take a refreshing swim.

The River Kwai in Kanchanaburi - The most beautiful place in Thailand in my mind! Just 2 hours away from Bangkok is a place full of historical traces but far underestimated! The hotels here are very unique and cost-effective.
[The Float House] This is the floating hotel with the best scenery and facilities on the River Kwai. It has only 18 villa rooms and is very private. The way to reach the hotel is also special, you need to take a long tail boat from the hotel's private pier and pass through the quiet jungle of the River Kwai to get there.
[River Kwai Resotel] Located behind the Float House and is a villa-type resort built along the mountain and river. This is the hotel with the most abundant tropical plants I have ever seen. Each room is an independent villa hidden in the jungle. The hotel has two large swimming pools and fitness, and guests in the Float House can share the facilities here.
[Home Phutoey River Kwai] This is a hot spring-themed hotel located in the upper reaches of the River Kwai. The facilities are not as good as the previous two, but the River View Onsen Villa is highly recommended: an independent villa with large balcony and private hot spring bath, the view overlooking the Kwai River, perfect to enjoy the jungle life.

Extreme experience. No electricity, no hot water, no internet for a day at River River Kwai Jungle Rafts Resort in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. This resort and the rooms are floating in the river. It’s a perfect place to relax for a weekend (or more if you can resist without the normal city comforts). My suggestions if you want to go there: 1. Bring at least 4 power bank for a hole weekend (if you are packing also the IPad or Kindle to read bring at least 6). 2. Early morning and night time are cold, pack a jacket and a hoodie. 3. Choose the full board option. The meals are very good and you can refill them (drinks are not included) 4. Cocktails at the bar are not worthy. 5. Bring your toothbrush and toothpaste. 6. If you are planning to use the zip line pack a pair of socks (for hygienic reasons, because they will provide you used shoes to wear) Those are the items that they provide you: 1. Kerosene oil lamp (they turn them off after midnight and the village turns completely dark) 2. Pocket flashlight 3. A spring blanket (if you feel cold it’s better you tell them while it’s still day time) Alla the activities (except the body rafting and the food for the elephant) are not free of charge.
