Hi, I am Jeffrey Eatley, I have led a crazy life and it’s not stopping anytime soon. I joined the US Navy in 1998, Drove 18 Wheelers across all 48 states for 7 years, been a casino dealer and poker room manager for 6 years, ran a donut shop, been a photographer for many large companies and magazines, and a content creator for car Dealership in Lafayette, Louisiana. I have been divorced twice, lived in an RV, almost declared bankruptcy, had 30K in credit card debt, sold everything I own, screwed up a lot, and fixed a lot. I have made really good money and lived broke at times. I have experienced so many ups and downs and I am ready for whatever is next.
Now, 20-plus years later, Another Huge Detour has arrived! I’m heading back out on the road in a semi-truck to create videos and see everything I can see.

She Regretted This Port Day in St. Thomas, USVI : Magens Bay Beach & Paradise Point
Earlier this year, we visited St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, on a 7-day cruise aboard NCL Escape with four friends. We didn't have an excursion booked through NCL, but that didn't stop us from doing our own beach excursion. On this port day, we hopped on a taxi and went to Magens Bay Beach and Park. Magens Bay is a 20-minute taxi ride from Havensight Cruise Terminal in Charlotte Amalie, USVI. After the beach, we ended our cruise excursion with the Skyride to Paradise Point. We went there for the breathtaking views of the harbor and city of Charlotte Amalie. It all sounds good, but Brandy learned a valuable lesson on this port day in St. Thomas USVI.

We recently had the opportunity to explore it to the fullest with Sunfari Adventure Tours! MAGENS BAY, St. Thomas | Royal Caribbean Shore Excursion
Did we discover the best beach in the World?! We certainly found one in the top ten! Welcome to Magens Bay Beach located on the island of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. This shore excursion was booked directly with Royal Caribbean and they made it a breeze to get off the ship and onto our tour. Magan's Bay was our first stop along our shore excursion where we had a few hours to enjoy the beach on our own- they do also have a bar, fast-food restaurant, and a gift shop. There are plenty of picnic tables and lounge chairs along the beach. After the beach, we headed up to the Banana Daiquiri lookout mountain viewpoint- where you can see many additional U.S. and British Virgin Islands from here.

Going to Magen's Bay, St. Thomas - What to do on Your Day in Port
This is a short video on how to get to Magen's Bay in St. Thomas on your own. It's very easy because so many cruise passengers do it. There are shuttle buses (or taxis) waiting at the foot of the dock. The cost is $8 US per person each way, plus $5 entry into Magen's Bay. For a total of $21 US p/p. The ships usually get around $49 for a tour like this. The ship tours usually include a stop in the town of Charlotte Amelie for shopping. There is a large shopping area a short walking distance from the ships at the Havensight Mall. Charlotte Amelie is about 1.5 miles (2.5 km) from the ships.
Magen's bay has been called one of the world's most beautiful beaches. It was pretty nice when we went, but it rained for part of the time we were there. It is about 3/4 mile in length. The water is clear (not as clear as some other places in the Caribbean) and warm. We found the snorkeling to be less than good. Not a lot to see but large schools of small fish. But it's a nice beach and should be seen.

Today we are heading to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. US citizens don’t need visa or passport, driver license or state ID is good enough. The flight is 3.5 hours from New York, NY or Newark, NJ. The requirements to enter St. Thomas: 1) Covid test 5 days before departure 2) submit form online on travel portal and receive “green code”. No vaccine required. Coming back to US mainland, no test required.

ACCOMODATION: There are not too many hotels in St. Thomas, there are mostly guest houses, Airbnb type apartments, and very expensive resorts and villas. For budget or middle class travel, it is challenging to find good accommodation. Best way to rent a room in a guest house ($100-200/night) or Airbnb apartment ($200-300/night). There are a lot of high end resorts and villas starting $500/night and up.
TRANSPORTATION: We took a taxi from the airport to our guesthouse in downtown of St. Thomas – Charlotte Amalie. The price of taxi depends on the distance to the location and the number of people traveling. The price ranges 8-12$ per person on average. So if it is 4 of you, be ready to spend about $40 one way. The same prices apply to traveling to the beach, restaurants, etc.
FOOD: see other videos for restaurant recommendations. The food on St. Thomas is expensive and quality is mediocre and you would expect more for the price. The food in the restaurants is ranging from poor to pretty good.
BEACH: St. Thomas has the most gorgeous beached. Highly recommend to visit Magens Bay Beach (entrance charge - $5 per person) and Coki Beach (free entrance).
PLACES TO VISIT: While in downtown Charlotte Amalie, go up 99 steps and see the gorgeous view from top overlooking the port and beautiful sea view. Visit Blackbeard’s Castle and Fort Christian (if they are open during your trip).

How to Explore Magen's Bay in Saint Thomas Without Booking An Excursion: Day 4 (Royal Caribbean)
Sometimes you just want to explore a country on your own without having to book an over-priced excursion through a cruise ship. This video will show you how to do it when exploring Magen's Bay Beach in Saint Thomas of the US Virgin Islands while on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Just be sure to bring cash (and yes, they take US dollars), and also 2 forms of ID to get back onto the ship.
This beach was GORGEOUS with bright, blue water, white-sands, and beautiful trees. Also, it wasn't too crowded. We we had a lot of fun swimming, taking lots of photos and videos, and just relaxing under that bright, warm sun! This was perfect for tanning my pale, night-shift nurse skin lol.
