► Reunion Island is a French department of the Indian Ocean. It is famous for its volcanic interior covered with rainforest, its coral reefs and beaches. Its most emblematic site is the Piton de la Fournaise, an active volcano that can be climbed and rises to 2632 m altitude. The Piton des Neiges, a huge extinct volcano, and the 3 calderas of Reunion (natural amphitheatres formed by volcanoes that have collapsed) are also climbing spots.

Their name derives from the Portuguese navigator Pedro Mascarenhas who first visited them in April 1512. These islands are considered an archipelago due to their common geology and history.

Saint-Denis is the prefecture (administrative capital) of the French overseas department and region of Réunion, in the Indian Ocean. It is located at the island's northernmost point, close to the mouth of the Rivière Saint-Denis.
Saint-Denis is the most populous commune in the French overseas departments and the nineteenth most populous in all of France. Réunion, which is also called Department of Réunion, is an island in the Indian Ocean that is a French overseas department and area. It is part of the Mascarene Islands and is about 679 km (422 mi) east of the island of Madagascar and 175 km (109 mi) southwest of the island of Mauritius. As of January 2023, there were 873,102 people living there.Saint-Denis is the country's capital and biggest city.
Before French refugees and colonial subjects moved to Réunion in the 17th century, the island was empty. Its warm climate led to the growth of a plantation economy based on sugar. East African slaves were brought in to work in the fields, and then Malays, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indians were brought in as indentured workers. Today, most people are of mixed ancestry, and Réunion Creole is the most common language, even though French is still the only legal language.

Like the other four overseas departments, Réunion also holds the status of a region of France, and is an integral part of the French Republic. Réunion is an outermost region of the European Union and is part of the eurozone. Réunion and the fellow French overseas department of Mayotte are the only eurozone regions located in the Southern Hemisphere.
Lo Mavéli or Lö Mahavéli, the unofficial flag of Réunion from 2003 used officially by various local authorities, like Saint-Denis and Saint-Philippe.
As in the rest of France, the official language of Réunion is French. In addition, a majority of the region's population speaks Réunion Creole.

Lagon Saint-Leu (Réunion Island) 4K
Saint-Leu à La Réunion, petite ville balnéaire où il fait bon vivre.
Bercée entre son cœur de ville, son port de plaisance et son lagon, la commune de Saint-Leu nichée sur la côte ouest de La Réunion est réputée pour sa douceur de vivre.
La plage de la Citerne 46, située à l’entrée sud de Saint-Leu, est moins exposée au soleil, mais plus fréquentée. Les Réunionnais la prennent d’assaut le week-end pour faire chauffer les marmites sous les filaos et pique-niquer en famille.
La biodiversité du lagon de Saint-Leu s’apprécie avec palmes, masque et tuba. Ses eaux chaudes et limpides sont idéales pour faire du snorkeling et rencontrer les drôles de petits habitants de la Réserve naturelle marine et les poissons qui se faufilent entre les coraux.
J'ai revu avec grand plaisir mes amis Picasso, Perroquet bleu, etc. de l'autre monde du silence...
