Living 30 Days in Bosnia's Capital ???????? (Shocking)

#bosnia #sarajevo #travel

Hello from Bosnia's capital Sarajevo! A country you may have never heard of or potentially even find on a map. For me, that was the case before I came to this lovely country. Today I'd like to share with you where I stayed in Bosnia. This is Sarajevo 180 and it can be found for $350.00 per month. I loved this place so much when I was here and think the world deserves this place.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS of MOSTAR | Why you NEED to visit BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA ????????

Hey, everyone! Welcome to our first #Bosnia #travelvlog!

After leaving Croatia, we drove to Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Mostar completely took us by surprise! It is a beautiful UNESCO town full of cobblestoned streets, old architecture, and home to the most picturesque bridge we have ever seen, Stari Most.

In this video we show you everything we were able to eat, see, and do with 48 hours in Mostar! On our first day we take a walking tour through the city, watch the locals dive off of the famous bridge, and enjoy a traditional Bosnian meal. The next day we visit the stunning Kravice waterfalls, a Dervish monastery, and hike up to an old abandoned fortress.

If you are planning a trip to the Balkans, be sure not miss out on Mostar!

If you enjoyed this video please leave us a like, comment, and SUBSCRIBE! Thank you :)

How 9 days in Bosnia and Herzegovina made us feel truly at home (BG average: 186)

Can you travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina with diabetes? Definitely! Bosnia is full of mountains and unique little destinations and great food and culture. Be smart, and be careful, and diabetes won’t stop you.

*** #BGNOW STATS
I was in Bosnia and Herzegovina for nine days and checked my blood sugar 45 times. The readings ranged from 38 to 343 and the average was 186. But that average doesn’t quite tell the full story, because in Bosnia, what really happened was a series of spikes into the high 200s or to the 300s, then a struggle to get it down, and then dropping too low. And towards the ends, suddenly it all evened out.

Here are some examples.

*** GOOD START... UNTIL...
After crossing the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina from Croatia and ending up in the town of Mostar, my first Bosnian check was 152. A pretty good start, and in fact over the next 24 hours or so, all of my readings were under 200 — and that’s while having pizza and beer, and even feeling a tad under the weather. A diabetic triumph, for me. Even after a new type of breakfast in our room — stuffed bread called burek served, in Yugoslavian style, with yogurt — I was fine.

But then a 79, baklava and potatoes and a shot led me to be 61. After some juice i was still 69 so i had a Twix. Then some insulin and leftover pizza and I was up in the 300s. Those sustained lows all afternoon always mean bad news. And despite a Humalog shot before bed, that night and all the next day, it never really came down too much. This was the unfortunate blueprint of most of my time in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

*** EXERCISE IN MOUNTAINOUS BiH
Bosnia is a very hilly country. Most walks, whether peeking in on a rural mosque with the owners of our guesthouse, or walking along a river to its source, or even a trip to the store for snacks, involves stairs and inclines, and scenic, meandering paths. It could be that these daily excursions made my average better than it would have been without them.

*** SARAJEVO AND HIGH BGS
Things were especially bad, blood-sugar wise, in the capital city. Over several days wandering around Sarajevo, including back and forth to our room which was at the top of a very big steep and icy hill, my blood sugar was below 100 only twice. Usually it was in the 200s or higher.

Then again, one day I dropped to 38 — which would turn out to be the lowest single reading on this entire 4-month trip.

Sarajevo was awesome otherwise. Chilly but friendly, it had the air of a scarred city being rebuilt. There are good restaurants, some with live spontaneous entertainment, and my diabetic stress was greatly alleviated by the dishes of meat with flat bread, and the Sarajevsko beer.

And anyway, Visegrad turned out to be a cure of sorts. I had no more readings in the 300s the rest of my time in Bosnia and Hersegovina. In fact the highest was barely over 200 the next few days.

*** HOME-COOKED MEAL
And a large part of my good fortune was the hospitality of our guesthouse owners. They invited us upstairs for a big afternoon meal. It was amazing — plum brandy and homemade Macedonian wine from the husband’s homeland, with organic broccoli and potato soup, local mountain lamb, bread, Russian egg salad, potatoes, vegetables, cheese. All amazing. Later that night I was 215, an excellent number for such a big and unknown meal.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA! ???????? Mostar to Sarajevo & beyond

This is Bosnia and Herzegovina! After exploring Mostar, drove north through Sarajevo stopping halfway in Konjic. After Sarajevo we continue north through the mountainous terrain of the 'heart shaped land' ending up in a lovely guesthouse in beautiful Gornje Dubrava ????????

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a land with a complicated recent history, it is a melting pot of religions, cultures and cuisines. But to us, we will always remember this country in the heart of Europe for its raw beauty and some of the friendliest people.

Top things to see & do in SARAJEVO, Bosnia & Herzegovina!!

Join us as we continue our Balkans road trip and explore the beautiful city of Sarajevo!

The first stop on our road trip was the small town of Jablanica. This small town is well known for its roasted lamb and we were recommended to stop there by a few locals. This town is also home to a Unesco site, the Bridge on the Neretva. This bridge is dedicated to a famous WW2 battle and definitely worth a stop!

We continued on and made it to Sarajevo. Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On our first day exploring the city we drove up Mount Trebivic, visited an abandoned bob sled track from the 1984 Olympics, and an old observatory tower. Afterwards, we headed back down into town to do a walking tour of the city.

Sarajevo offers several free walking tours of the city. We choose the walking tour called “War scars & new times. This war tour covers many important sights like Sniper Alley, Sarajevo Roses, The Children Memorial, and Markale Market. We were so impressed by this tour and would recommend it when visiting the city. You can find the link to this tour here :

We spent our last day in Sarajevo walking the old town, trying Bosnian coffee, and visiting the eclectic bar called Zlatna Ribica.

Bosnia is Awesome! | Here’s Why YOU Should Visit!

The Siege of Sarajevo, the disintegration of Yugoslavia, the scars of the bloody Bosnian War. This is what MOST people think when they think of Bosnia & Herzegovina…but TRUST ME, this fascinatingly complex country is a lot more than shrapnel and cemeteries and ethnic resentment.

(Remember to Subscribe to be a part of this growing platform that seeks to explore travel Content in new and refreshing ways. And hit that Bell for notifications so you never miss another video).

In this trailer, I go beyond the history and grief of Sarajevo and Bosnia to uncover all the other reasons that make this country unique. Should I come for the great food? Should I come for the people? Should I come for the great outdoors? Or should I come for it all?
I came here for the first time in 2017 and haven’t been able to get it out of my head since.
Hopefully, this trailer shows you all the good, bad, and downright baffling reasons why this country continues to amaze me and why I’m certain it will amaze you, too.

If you’re liking my Content so far, there is good news: I have a great pipeline of Bosnia & Herzegovina Content to keep you engaged into Summer…AND I’m still posting videos from my wicked adventures in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

Exploring Bosnia and Serbia in 2 days

As part of our Expat Explored tour, we spent a day in Bosnia and a day in Serbia visiting the capitals (Sarajevo and Belgrade respectively). We also had a pit stop in Mostar where we got to cross over the famous bridge and have a quick feel for these Eastern European countries that have both been affected by multiple horrendous wars.

SARAJEVO - Our New FAVORITE City?! | Bosnia & Herzegovina Travel Vlog

During our short time in the city of Sarajevo, it quickly became one of our favorite places we've been! As Marshall mentions in the video, it's one of those places where you get there and realize you wish you booked more time.

In this video, we take you to some of our favorite things around the town including an amazing tea / coffee shop where the waiter came out and gave an introduction on how to properly drink the Bosnian coffee (which we had been doing wrong) and tea.

From there we toured the main city center which is full of beautiful buildings, a fountain, market stores, and of course pigeons. Right in the center is also where we had lunch. This place is like many others throughout the city and is known as an aščinica, which is a small, cafeteria-style place serving phenomenal food!

Just about a thirty-minute hike outside of town is the White Fortress which gives you access to amazing 360-degree views of the city and the surrounding mountains. The fortress, along with some baklava and mantije (a Serbian food similar to burek but made in balls and served with white sauce) were the perfect way to end the day in such an incredible city!

If you are enjoying our content and want to help us make more, we would be so grateful if you considered buying us a coffee:

Ever since we saw @HamishandAndy jump from the Stari Grad in Mostar, we've wanted to visit the city. Not to do the jump, but to see the incredible architecture, eat the incredible Bosnian food, drink the incredible Bosnian cofffee and maybe watch OTHERS do the jump! ????

Today we explore the old town of Mostar at first light before we dive into some of the traditional Bosnian food. We try Klepe (Traditional Dumplings drowning in sour scream), Dolma (Stuffed Capsicum) and the traditional Bosnian version of Burek whiiiiiiiiiich quickly climbed the ladder of favourite foods! Mostar City Will Surprise You! SHOCKED (Bosnia & Herzegovina) ????????

Welcome to the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina!

This video is not a staged footage of Mostar, rather a candid one. It exhibits the best of this city during the peak summer season. I strolled around the city center to show you folks how busy it can get during the summer season. I drove up to Mostar from Split (Croatia) and the scenery was just exemplary.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country with a very complex & gruesome history. it is most certainly a multi-ethnic society with a secular identity in the making, aligning itself with the rest of Europe. It does not believe in ethnocentric politics anymore, given its history and is on its way to prosperity. I was surprised to see that Bosnia & Herzegovina withholds so many surprises for world travelers. This country needs to be frequented by travelers on a much larger scale.

Bosnia–Herzegovina and often known informally as Bosnia, is a country at the crossroads of south and southeast Europe, located in the Balkans. The capital and largest city is Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina borders Serbia to the east, Montenegro to the southeast, and Croatia to the north and southwest. In the south it has a narrow coast on the Adriatic Sea within the Mediterranean, which is about 20 kilometres (12 miles) long and surrounds the town of Neum. Bosnia, which is the inland region of the country, has a moderate continental climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters. In the central and eastern regions of the country, the geography is mountainous, in the northwest it is moderately hilly, and in the northeast it is predominantly flat. Herzegovina, which is the smaller, southern region of the country, has a Mediterranean climate and is mostly mountainous. (Source: Wikipedia)
