Mauritania - the least visited countries| The Meridian Expedition| Nouakchott, Nouadhibou, Atar

Visit Mauritania - Nouakchott, Nouadhibou and Atar. Have you been to Mauritania and it’s capital Nouakshott? You will say “yes” after watching this video about Mauritania.

It was great to see our expectations shatter and that there is much more to this place than the Sahara Desert.

Check out Atar on the map - it's cool!

Mauritania 6 Days Desert Tour PART 1

Watch Part 2 here:

This trip was from around August of 2019. It took us a while to post because we started a family and then came the pandemic and all that. We are now just posting this as a wonderful memory we can refer to, and hopefully give other travelers an idea of what to expect when they go on a desert trip in Mauritania like we did. We started in Nouakchott, White Valley, Terjit Oasis and part 2 covers Chinguetti, Ouadane Ruins, and Atar. We have used Desert Mauritanie for this tour.

The trip has been very challenging for us because of the heat. But looking back, it's definitely one of those tours that you recall the most because it's out of the ordinary. Erika was unknowingly pregnant during this trip, which made the heat more unbearable for her, and even memorable for the both of us :)

We highly recommend that you visit Mauritania if you fancy a basic but adventurous trip. It's definitely not for those who can't survive a night without a proper toilet or if you're very picky on meals. Make sure not to go during summer so you can enjoy it more unlike us, where we ended up taking refuge from the sun for 4-5hrs a day, doing nothing.

Otherwise, it was a very nice experience to meet the locals, the nomads, and get to know the Mauritanian culture.

What can you DO with 25 EURO in MAURITANIA ????????

*Support my channel by making a donation and make my dream come true.*
I'm dreaming of a Mustang since I was a child. Help me raise funds to afford it (I will keep it until I die)

On my last 24 hours I only got 25 Euro's in Mauritanian currency left.
I decided to make a video about what you can do with 25 Euro's in Mauritania.

You can do a lot more with the money I got, but I decided to go to the top end places of the city so I could enjoy my last day well.

Mauritania Nouadhibou to Nouakchott - Africa Overland in a Land Rover Defender

Mauritania brings with it a very memorable journey for all the wrong reasons. Having made it to Mauritania we face our biggest challenge yet on our overland Africa adventure as we leave Nouadhibou to dig & drive through a Mauritanian minefield, follow the railroad to the beach road nearly losing the land rover to the Atlantic Ocean as we drive south along the empty beach and over sand dunes on our journey to the capital city of Mauritania - Nouakchott.

There is no doubting the desolate beauty as we stare out into the Atlantic Ocean with the sand dunes to our back, but the forces of nature also provide unexpected challenges.

Land Rover Africa Overland
--------------------------------------------
Twenty years ago my wife and I packed up our life in the UK and set off to drive overland in our Land Rover Defender with the aim of driving all the way to the Cape Town in South Africa, a journey which will take us from coast to coast along the length and breadth of Africa.

Because this journey was twenty years ago, there were no smartphones, no google maps, and no digital cameras. The photos taken on the journey were on transparencies, designed to be projected. I have taken photographs of some of those slides for the purpose of showing in this video.

Almost all of the Pecheurs (fisherman) are from neighbour countries, Senegal, Gambia and Mali.

They come to Nouakchott and work in the fishing business.

I walked on the beach, talked to some people and observed how they do their job. I felt welcome. People ask me to film them and we had quite a good time.

Nouadhibou à la voile, MAURITANIE #1

RIDING BOTH WAYS ON THE IRON ORE TRAIN IN MAURITANIA: Nouadhibou to Zouerat and back again...

Let’s talk extreme adventures. Mauritania’s iron ore train is not only one of the longest trains in the world but also one of the most dangerous.

The train journey covers 704km each way travelling from the port of Nouadhibou to the mining town of Zouerat in the middle of the desert.

And I rode it both ways.

Firstly, in this video I want to tell the story of the train. I initially thought it would be a video showcasing extreme adventure and travel. But in fact, it turned out to be something completely different and a story of Mauritanian hospitality and learning about a whole new culture.

I want to be sure specially to give credit to these guys, the locals who ride this train, not because they want to - but because they have to. This is a way of life and a means of transport to and from work in the desert in these harsh conditions.

Here is MY story and all your questions answered about the iron ore train in Mauritania.

Thanks for watching! :)

What is Mauritania really like? | Nouakchott the country born of sand & wind

Mauritania, officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is a sovereign country in Northwest Africa. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Western Sahara to the north and northwest, Algeria to the northeast, Mali to the east and southeast, and Senegal to the southwest. Nouakchott is the capital and largest city of Mauritania. It is one of the largest cities in the Sahel. The city also serves as the administrative and economic center of Mauritania. Nouakchott was a mid-sized village of little importance until 1958 when it was chosen as the capital of the nascent nation of Mauritania.
