Manama - Bahrain, Small Country with Big Potential

Manama. The capital of Bahrain. It is the smallest Arab country in the Persian Gulf. Bahrain's population is only 1.5 million of people. It’s a cozy place for a short vacation. There is no metro, no trams, no trolleybuses. The country is so compact that 25 bus routes are the entire public transport of the country. And it’s quite enough to move across the country.

The Sheraton Hotel building was the tallest in the country when it opened in 1981. It also had the largest pool. And in 1983, the hotel was also recognized as the most computerized. However, since that moment, Manama has changed a lot.
The Grand Mosque, the modern Juffair district, the World Trade Center, as well as malls, water parks and museums have transformed the city's landscape. Now, hotels of unusual shapes on artificial islands are no longer surprising. And the business district stands out for its special beauty and brevity.
The World Trade Center is a symbol of the country. It is unique. It has three wind generators in the building. When it’s windy, they are able to provide up to 15% of the total energy consumed by the building.
A part of modern Bahrain, as in some other Arab countries, is being built on artificial islands. The most remarkable piece of paradise in Manama is Reef Island. The modern design of streets, houses, restaurants, walking areas will emphasize beauty and splendor.
Real estate is expensive, but more affordable than in the United Arab Emirates. For example, the cost of this two-bedroom apartment is $ 266,000. This price already includes luxurious renovation, furniture and plumbing.
The country was completely built on the sands. Therefore, sandstorms are annual guests during the off-season. If your trip coincided with one of them, don’t worry. On a day like this, you can visit the Grand Mosque, Bahrain History Museum, or have a shopping day.
As for entertainment and excursions, you can visit the old town, which has become a shelter for stray cats. There are hundreds and even thousands of them. Sometimes there is a fight for territories between them. Kind people feed these cats.
I also recommend to visit the local bazaar, walk along King Faisal Highway, near the King Faisal corniche, or just sunbathe on the beach. There is only one public beach in Manama - Bahrain Bay Beach. It is very simple, no frills. However, there are more beautiful beaches. For example, Reef Clubhouse & Lagoon Beach. You can get there by taxi. Entrance fee required, but there are deckchairs, cafes and additional services.
At night, the air cools down. At such time it is very pleasant to go out and take a walk around the city or sit on a bench near the sea. In modern houses, as well as hotels, you can spend this time by the pool or in the restaurant.

Bahrain Travel & Food Guide ???????? Top Things To See and Do In Manama Bahrain | 197 Countries, 3 Kids

Join us on a short tour around the city of Manama, the capital of Bahrain. ????????

Our next stop while cruising the Persian Gulf aboard the MSC Bellissima was the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This is a small country with a population of about 1.5 million, 50% of which are expats.
Bahrain means “Two Seas,” and it refers to the fresh and seawater surrounding the archipelago.

Located on Bahrain Island, the largest island in Bahrain, Manama has grown into a booming business and economics center.

It offers visitors and tourists an upscale shopping experience alongside an exciting dining, art, and cultural scene just waiting to be explored.

As soon as we got off the Bellissima, we took a shuttle to the port gates and then a taxi to the city center. The first attraction we visited was the Al Fateh Grand Mosque. This monumental structure can fit over 7000 worshippers at a time!

At the mosque, we were welcomed by a group of women who were offering religious books and materials about the Muslim faith in various languages.

Inside the mosque, they offered a free guided tour that told us all about the history of the mosques, the prayer cycles they do, and some of the rules of Islam, such as why women have to wear a headcover.

Next on our list of must-visit places was the Bahrain Fort, also known as the Portuguese Fort. This is a major UNESCO-protected archaeological site in Manama, with many findings dating back 5000 years.

We even saw what a typical village once used to look like and how Bahrainis once built their houses.

From there, we headed to the Bab AlBahrain Souk. From food and clothes to watches and jewelry, one can really get carried away exploring all those shops and stalls.

Chloe even tried to buy some fresh local bread, and they refused to take her money.

Next, we made a stop at a Krishna shrine in an area known as Mini India. People who have visited the subcontinent say that it really makes them feel like they were back in the country.

Unfortunately, some of us were feeling a little unwell, so we decided it was best to sit down and relax over some delicious Pakistani food for a late lunch.

And since we only had a short few hours to explore, we jumped back in a taxi after lunch and returned to the MSC Bellissima.
