Macau, also spelt Macao and officially the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is a special administrative region on the western side of the Pearl River estuary in southern China. With a population of 667,400 and an area of 32.9 km2 (12.7 sq mi), it is the most densely populated region in the world.
Macau was formerly a colony of the Portuguese Empire, after Ming China leased the territory as a trading post in 1557. Between 1557 and 1887, Macau was governed by the Portuguese under Chinese sovereignty and authority. In 1887, Portugal was given perpetual colonial rights for Macau. The colony remained under Portuguese rule until 1999, when it was transferred to China. As a special administrative region, Macau maintains separate governing and economic systems from that of mainland China.
Originally a sparsely populated collection of coastal islands, the territory has become a major resort city and the top destination for gambling tourism. It is the ninth-highest recipient of tourism revenue and its gambling industry is seven times larger than that of Las Vegas. Although the city has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, it has severe income inequality. Its GDP per capita by purchasing power parity is one of the highest in the world and higher than any country in the world in 2014 according to the World Bank.
Macau has a very high Human Development Index. Macau has the fourth-highest life expectancy in the world. The territory is highly urbanised and most development is built on reclaimed land; two-thirds of total land area is reclaimed from the sea.

Explore the Historic Centre of Macau in this evening walking tour! Discover the rich history and culture of Macau, as a city where Chinese and Portuguese cultures meet. This walking tour begins at Senado Square, the heart of Macau, surrounded by Portuguese colonial buildings. After a brief walk along Rua de São Paulo, a famous street food and souvenir street, we'll arrive at the Ruins of St. Paul's. The ruin was a façade of a cathedral built in the 17th century, which was unfortunately burnt down in 1835.
In the latter part of the tour, we will explore Portuguese style alleys near Sé Cathedral, ending at Senado Square.

The Posto Fronteiriço das Portas do Cerco (Portuguese for Frontier Post of the Border Gate) is an immigration and customs checkpoint in the Portas do Cerco area in northern Macao, on its border with mainland China's Zhuhai.
It is one of two border crossings between Macau and mainland China, the other being the Lotus Bridge between Macao's Cotai and mainland China's Hengqin Island. Travellers entering Macau pass through immigration and customs on the ground floor of the building, while those departing Macau pass through customs and immigration on the first floor. Its counterpart in Zhuhai is Gongbei Port, through which travellers must pass before or after Portas do Cerco.

Walking From Senado Square To St Paul Ruins & Macau Museum through Macau shopping street.
There are many shops, restaurants and cafes along the street. Many shops sell macau egg tart / portuguese egg tart along the way to Ruins Of St Paul. One of the shop that sell nice egg tart is Pastelaria Koi Kei Bakery shop. There are many Koi Kei Bakery shops along the way.
Also many shops sell Bak Kwa (Chinese Pork Jerky & Beef Jerky). One of the famous Bak Kwa shop is Bee Cheng Hiang Jerky Shop.

The Ruins of Saint Paul's are the ruins of a 17th-century Catholic religious complex in Santo António, Macau, China. It includes what was originally St. Paul's College and the Church of St. Paul (Igreja de São Paulo) also known as Mater Dei, a 17th-century Portuguese church dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle. Today, the ruins are one of Macau's best known landmarks and one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World. In 2005, they were officially listed as part of the Historic Centre of Macau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
