After our roadtrip through Iceland 2 years ago Gareth and I were in search of a destination that offers just as much natural beauty and unique outdoor experiences as Iceland and ended up choosing Norway because of its rugged coastline featuring numerous huge fjords and thousands of picturesque islands.

Regarding our route we’ll be starting off in Stavanger in Southwest Norway to learn more about the history of the country before moving on to Odda for some proper winter trekking. After that we make our way to Bergen, one of the most picturesque cities of the country which is often referred to as the fjord capital. Then we hit the slopes in Myrkdalen together with a well known Winter-X-Games athlete to warm up for the next dream destination further up north in Northern Norway: the Lofoten islands, which we’ll be exploring properly from west to east. The capital Oslo will be our last stop to finish this trip in style by visiting some of the major sights of the city and attending an intense football derby.

Lofoten - Norway | A winter wonderland in Arctic | Nordland | Svolvær | Part-I

► In this video:
With dramatic, imposing beauty everywhere you look, Norway's Lofoten islands are like nowhere else on earth. Lofoten, traditional district in the county of Nordland, Norway. So we will take you to the there from our eyes.

► How to reach:
Bodo is one of the major town in Norway which connects to the various parts of the Northern Norway by Bus, Ferries, Flights, so you can choose any mode of transport from Bodo and reach the Lofoten Island.
The islands are also connected by bridges and the E10 road.
There are buses running from Narvik so you can reach Narvik and take a bus but the frequency is less or you can rent a car and drive through the Island so plan accordingly.

There are two bus lines in Lofoten i.e., between Å i Lofoten, Moskenesand Svolvær.
Bus 300 which runs through Lofoten and goes till Narvik.
Whereas Bus 742 runs between Å i Lofoten, Moskenes and Leknes and bus 741 runs between Leknes and Svolvær.
Check official site for latest info:

Tip: if you are staying for few days in Nordland, then you can buy Nordland pass for around 100 euros pp, valid for 7 days from the time of buy. Please mind that tickets can only be bought online in their official app.

► Places we explored:
We spent quite a few days in Lofoten and stayed at different places during all that time.
We started our journey in Svolvær, it was our first stay. We stayed there for a night, we walked around the city, tried some local food, chased some northern lights and enjoyed the night.
Svolvær and Leknes are two main towns in all of the Lofoten.
Later in our journey, we travelled to a places:
Leknes
Hamnoy
Sakrisoya
Reine
Ä

► Travelling Tip:
1. Most Scandinavian countries are cashless i.e. it might be difficult to trade with hard cash, so it’s better to have bank cards which will work there at no or minimal transaction fees.
2. As it’s a coastal area and moreover it falls under arctic circle, so weather can change at short notice or no notice at all. So, you should be ready for such changes.
3. Travel insurance is highly recommended if you are travelling to Scandinavian countries.

LOFOTEN: A roadtrip to the MOST AMAZING places of Lofoten Islands // EPS. 7 EXPEDITION NORTH

If there is one place on earth where it doesn’t matter if it rains, if snows, or if the sun shines because it’s beautiful never the less - it must be Lofoten Islands in Norway. A rugged mountain chain is rising up from the Gulf Stream, forming a rare and unique world. It’s wild and beautiful, with azure blue water, white beaches, green mountainsides, beautiful fjords, old fishing towns and maybe some of the most spectacular roads in the world.

Here are my Highlights for a visit on Lofoten islands:
- Visit the town Å i Lofoten
- Sleep in traditional Rorbuer, old fishing huts that are often reused as appartments and rent out to tourists
- Dine at Holmen Restaurant
- Drive over the stunning Fredvang bridges
- Check out the artistic village Henningsvær and it's football field, that is situated on it's own island
- Visit Nusfjord, one of the best preserved historic fishing villages in all of Norway

On our arrival with the ferry from Bodø in Moskenes on the island Moskenesøy of Lofoten we first did a trip to the most southern village of the island - that has the shortes name I ever came across: Å. After arriving in our accommodation Eliassen Rorbuer I invited my travel partner to Holmen Restaurant for a amazing dining experience.
The next day we finally took off to explore Lofoten: We drove over water at the beautiful Fredvang bridges, visited Nusfjord and it's restored historic village, looked at some art boutiques and the football field at Henningsvær and ended our day in Svolvær. Why I loved Lofoten? Check out the video for some of the most scenic shots of this whole journey!

Chapter 1: To Oslo-Travel Itinerary to Lofoten, Stockholm Rovaniemi.

Chapter 1 : Travel to Oslo

Winter in March 2023, we travelled to North Europe countries of Aurora Northern Lights. Our destination are Lofoten Islands in Norway and Rovaniemi in Finland hoping to see Aurora or Northern Lights as what it is called!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 1 :
Take flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, and night flight from Singapore to Helsinki

Day 2 :
Arrive at Helsinki and connect next flight to Oslo.
Arrive at Oslo. Take local train VY, to Oslo Central Station (city center).
Walk from Central Station to Citybox Oslo Hotel (few minutes walk) and stay a night at CityBox Oslo Hotel

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this chapter 1 we travelled from Kuala Lumpur, transfer at Singapore and Helsinki to arrive at Oslo. Yes, 4 countries ie Malaysia, Singapore, Finland and Norway!

We took local train VY which is much cheaper than Flytoget Express train.

We stayed in a hotel closed to the train station so easy for us to walk there. Moreover as we need to check out early at 6am, so we can just walk to the train station easily without hassle of getting a taxi or bus or tram.

We did not fly straight to Lofoten because the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Lofoten is expensive . So we bought 1st flight to Oslo , and 2nd flight Oslo to Lofoten on the next day so to give buffer time just in case any delay in our 1st flight.

We hope our video gives you some idea and guidance and make your trip more adjustable to your needs.

Feel free to drop us your comments. Thank you for watching.
