Liechtenstein | The World’s 5th SMALLEST Country!

Yup, there is a passport stamp, if you know where to look. Explore with us the country of Liechtenstein. On our one day trip to this small European country, we visit the capital of Liechtenstein, Vaduz and the beautiful mountain town of Steg.

Liechtenstein had been on our list of countries to visit for some time. Not just because it's another country's stamp in our passports but more so to find out what's it all about because no one seems talks much about the world's wealthiest country, based on the measure of GDP per capita with over $179,000 in 2014 according to the World Bank.

Thank you for joining us and see you on our next adventure!

Liechtenstein Travel Guide

Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest country in the world (roughly the size of Washington, D.C.). It has a historic castle, bustling downtown, vineyard, and some of the most memorable hiking in the Alps. Vaduz is the nation’s capital and where you will most likely start your Liechtenstein adventure. It’s the starting point for the Via Alpina ( and where you can get your passport stamped (at the Tourism Office). For the best hiking, you’ll head to the charming resort town of Malbun. Don’t forget to try the national dish of Käsknöpfle!

5 things you HAVE to do in Liechtenstein ????????

Liechtenstein is Europe’s fourth-smallest country, and one of only two double-landlocked countries in the world (double landlocked means you’re landlocked entirely by other landlocked countries) along with Uzbekistan.

Outside of its popular ski resort of Malbun, it is also one of the Europe’s least-visited countries. But I’ve put together a list for those travelling to this micronation, so, here are five things you have to do in Liechtenstein.

One of Europe's smallest countries - The beautiful Liechtenstein (Vaduz city)

Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest country in the world and it is located between Austria and Switzerland, with the size of only 162 square kilometers. The country is located in the Upper Rhine Valley in the European Alps and is one of the only 2 doubly landlocked countries in the world. It is Europe's last absolute monarchy/principality, and its monarchs are the richest royals in Europe. The Capital of the country is Vaduz with only around 5400 people. One interesting fact about this country is that there are more registered companies and jobs than there are people. This means that the country is very rich and has the most exports per capita per person. They use Swiss Franc as their currency and they speak German language but with a certain dialect. Liechtenstein has no airport so the best way to go there is through Austria or Switzerland by train or car. It is a perfect side trip when you are already near the boarder of these 2 countries.

Tip: You can have your passport stamped at the Toursim/ post office in Vaduz for around 3 euros.

00:00 - View from the bus from Buch, Switzerland to Vaduz, Liechtenstein
03:09 - The Cathedral of St. Florin
04:30 - Vaduz Main Square

06:40 - Liechtenstein Center - Tourism Office where you can have the passport stamp
07:38 - Postage Stamp Museum
09:07 - Kunstmuseum
10:42 - Vaduz Castle at the top

11:56 - Vaduz Castle (Prince's Castle)

Liechtenstein (Europe) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Liechtenstein in Europe.
In the middle of the triangular border of Germany, Austria and Switzerland lies a treasure of the European Alps, the Principality of Liechtenstein. Hardly anywhere else in Central Europe has experienced such a rapid transformation from a dreamy agrarian state into one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Bendern, part of the village of Gamprin, is one of eleven municipalities and lies to the south-west side of the Eschner Mountain. The view glides across the foothills of the romantic Rhine Valley and up to the massive Swiss Schwäg-Alp. The Schaedler ceramics workshop in Nendeln is one of the oldest commercial enterprises in Liechtenstein and features handmade works of art. Since 1836, they have specialised in earthenware, exclusive ceramic art and tilted stoves. Schaan forms the border to the Oberland, a charming municipality with an attractive town centre. A parish hall and provision of good restaurants reflect the success of the global companies that are located there. Liechtenstein Castle looms majestically above Vaduz, the capital. Saint Florin is located on the edge of the old town it was built in 1868 in Neo-Gothic style and in 1997 officially dedicated as a cathedral. From the Sareiser Joch there are several trails along the ridge such as the Princess Gina Route that traverses various mountains of the border triangle. More than four hundred well marked hiking trails are offered throughout Liechtenstein, plus a hundred and sixty kilometres in the Alps. The Principality is a treasure trove of both landscape and culture with mountains, pastures, castles, fortresses and museums. But Liechtenstein has also become a small, modern state with a vital and indelible focus on finance and industry, a tiny paradise that is also an important economic power.

Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is a German-speaking microstate located in the Alps between Austria and Switzerland. It is the sixth smallest nation worldwide. Liechtenstein is a semi-constitutional monarchy headed by the prince of Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein is bordered by Switzerland to the west and south and Austria to the east and north. It is Europe's fourth-smallest country, with an area of just over 160 square kilometres (62 square miles) and a population of 38,749 (as of 2019). Divided into 11 municipalities, its capital is Vaduz, and its largest municipality is Schaan. It is also the smallest country to border two countries. Liechtenstein is a doubly landlocked country between Switzerland and Austria.

Economically, Liechtenstein has one of the highest gross domestic products per person in the world when adjusted for purchasing power parity. The country has a strong financial sector centred in Vaduz. It was once known as a billionaire tax haven, but is no longer on any official blacklists of uncooperative tax haven countries. An Alpine country, Liechtenstein is mountainous, making it a winter sport destination.

Liechtenstein is a member of the United Nations, the European Free Trade Association, and the Council of Europe. Although not a member of the European Union because it was not designed with microstates in mind, it participates in both the Schengen Area and the European Economic Area. It has a customs union and a monetary union with Switzerland.
